In my case the Emerald Physics are amazing for 2 channel and I use a preamp with HT pass through to optimize my 2 channel listening. I am willing to not have the timber matching since 2 channel is my priority. I appreciate you telling me the order of priority if I am going to get more HT speakers.

I tried the HT bypass dedicated preamp option. After doing level-matched A/B tests of several (see my HT Bypass Preamp thread here), my conclusion was that any SQ improvement in detail and ambiance was outweighed by losing Audyssey and having to "listen through" my room's uncorrected bass, especially once I upgraded from MultEQXT to XT32. Adding DenonLink and Audyssey Pro then took my SQ up another level beyond the analog path.
My approach has been to plan a fullly integrated stereo/MC music/film sound system and I've gradually upgraded while staying in the Dali line. Currently I have Dali Euphonia MS5s FR/L so I feel there's no SQ compromises for stereo. For MC music and film, I have the matching Dali Euphonia CS4 CC and timbre-matched Dali Helicon w200s for wides and surrounds-so that sounds pretty good too.

The normal setting is fine for 9ch, nothing special needed.
