Are there shifting aspect ratios this time? Really distracting on TDK, IMHO.
It was not shot in Imax format, there is no AR shift in the theatrical presentation at all (including the Imax DMR blowup).
If Nolan really wants to up the ante on quality, why not shoot his next picture in pure 65mm so he can use less bulky cameras (ala Ron Fricke's Baraka)?
He shot portions of this movie in 65mm, I'm not sure what your complaint is...?
Upconverting it to IMAX 70mm shouldn't be that difficult... just put black bars on the top and bottom to retain the 2.20:1 flat 65mm ratio. Even the digital and 35mm and Blu-ray releases would benefit if it was from a top quality 8k telecine.
But IMAX ran it through the DMR meat grinder and it looks like crap (at least it did in IMAX. I surely hope they didn't source the BD from this, because it looked pretty bad actually. I regret seeing it in IMAX, I wanted to see the benefits of stuff shot in 65mm, but it seems like it all got run through DMR, and I couldn't see the difference through the film. I should have seen the 35mm print version, it likely would have looked better. Oh well...
