Which H55 ITX Motherboard?

Hi,

I'm looking to do a core i3 530 ITX htpc build and I wanted to get people's thoughts as to what MB to get.

For me, what I"m looking for is stability, ability to have problem free sleep s3 wake/resume, and no HDMI sync issues.

I have looked into the ECS, Gigabyte, and Intel options and am leaning towards Gigaybte.

Anyone able to provide any experiences or info?

Thanks

The gigabyte board gives you two built-in USB 3.0 ports, if you need another reason to tip the scale even more.

True, can't hurt right?

Anyone have any experience in terms of S3 sleep with any of this mb's? That is important for me to work properly.

Thanks

Before I put my gigabyte board (ga-h55n-usb3) into "production" I tested it for manual sleep (S3) and wake from it (wake from wireless USB keyboard and WOL) and didn't see any issue. My system is now running 24/7. I can take it down and run some quick tests for you if you tell me specifically what you are looking for and what OS you will be running (I can dual boot XP and W7).

Thanks for your offer gazebo.

Essentially I'd like to confirm there are no issues for it to go to sleep, wake up unattended to do recordings. Also that when its woken up (either unattended or manually) that it maintains the proper resolution (i.e. now HDMI sync issues). If you have time to do this, I'd definitely appreciate it, thanks!

The Intel DH57JG without question. I haven't had a single issue.

Ran the following test:
- scheduled a job to wake system from sleep
- manually put the system to S3 (power consumption in S3: 3W)

System woke up at the scheduled time. However, the video output was powered off (I think this is the default behavior), so the HDTV did not get a signal. Touching the keyboard or mouse would turn the screen back on at the correct resolution. Also waking up the system by manually touching the keyboard would turn on the video output. Playback of audio was fine without any video/audio issues.

Setup:
- h55-usb3, i530, 4gb mem, 3.5" internal drive, win7/32, hdmi from i530 integrated video to hdtv at 1920x1080p.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Gazebo!

Any chance you have a remote (i.e. Media Center/Harmony)? I wonder if pressing something like the Recorded TV Button or Green Button also would turn on the video output after wake. If you can't test it no problem though. Thanks!

Sorry, I no longer have an MCE remote. I used to own the Adesso ARC-1100 in the past when running Vista. I regretted the purchase as the remote was not Vista compliant despite labeling itself as Vista remote. I tossed it out precisely because it would not reliably wake the system up from standby, a common complaint about this remote.

I'd imagine if your remote works in standby you should be able to wake up the ga-h55n-usb3. If it's any indication I can wake the system up by merely touching the shift key on my USB wireless keyboard.
