I didn't get to use the home theater yesterday due to the weather playing with the power grid. Hoping this evening will keep the power stable so I can play with the new toy again.

After a few more days of movie watching with both tapped horns in the system, I must now conclude that adding another horn was exactly the right decision.

Watched Unstoppable the other night. 118dB sustained at listening position... not only did the two monsters have the power to move my pants legs, but my hair as well. That's a first in this room. Got up several times to monitor excursion. At no time were the SDX's moving more than an inch peak to peak. Nowhere near Xmax. Same with the Tang Band horn. All this with only 700W. I have silly headroom now - gotta love it

Some have been asking me for more detailed plans for the Tang Band horn. Since there's now been enough interest for me to spend the time to do that, I'll whip up a Sketchup model for that one as I have the time. I still don't reckon many people if any at all will try that one. I'm now confident the bracing can be omitted from it, too, but it's never going to be as wood friendly as this SDX project is.

This is about as loud as I've had them so far. They are capable of a lot more, but honestly, 120.5dB at listening position was loud enough, I thought.

I just finished the extended Return of the King. All I can say is wow... I've never heard it like that before. Not even at the theater. The scene inside the mountain where the skulls all come pouring in was amazing. It was like the couch tried to jump out from under me. I've had it shake before, but this was something else. All with less than 750W.

Couldn't believe the horns were pounding on me that hard without issues, so I went over and watched the SDX's while Legolas was bringing down the oliphant. Half an inch of excursion, and that's all. Unbelievable.


They lasted all night and are bringing the bass just fine in their final home.

Only that I've watched more movies. Some better than others for testing structural integrity. Most recent bass movie I watched was Battle: LA. Nice LFE, terrible movie.

Still haven't had them over 120dB at LP, even though I know they're more than capable of it. Hard to do that when my mains can't handle running hot enough to keep up.

New video... Flight of the Phoenix plane crash this time. Had the LFE running just a wee bit hot - measured 124dB at LP just before the camera started recording. Too bad I didn't catch it doing that on video.

Had to bolt the Tang Band horn (top) to the SDX horn (bottom) after this. It tried to walk right off of there. I also added some chain at the very top so the pair of them won't fall over as a unit.

They will still go louder than this.

Not so much - I just don't run it that loud when people are in the house. Most listening is done at or slightly past reference.

Two 10's and two 8x12's. Less than 700W. Each TH is getting 350W at 8 ohms.

Yep, and yep. That one that had the debris in the gap is still holding up just fine.

They're in my Tang Band horn, Wolfhorn II.

The knee (low corner, Fc, or what have you) on the TB horn is just below 16Hz, while the SDX horn is at about 16.3Hz. Pretty close. Like I said, each horn is getting 350W. That's all they need to get good and loud in here.

The TB horn integrates rather well with the SDX one. It's more sensitive, so I had to pay attention to calibrating my levels, but other than that I set up my highpass for the SDX design (since those drivers are more sensitive to improper highpass) and let it rip. There's no way any of these drivers will bottom out - I'll run out of amp first.

I use (in Windows) alt + print screen, and then paste the screen grab into an appropriate imaging program. Paint Shop Pro, in my case.
