Philips lcd hdtv not showing anything over 480 help

1st of all thx in advance i have checked this forum many times and its helped me a great deal. I have a Philips LCD TV 42PFL7403D 42" Full HD 1080p with Perfect Pixel HD Engine, purchased from QVC in april of 2009. excellent tv, picture was great and gaming and movie were beutiful and fluid. 2 nights ago i turned it of after a usual night of gaming on my xbox 360. the nxt day i turned it on and it wouldnt display anything connected through HDMI. before i had a HD reciever, HTPC and my 360 all hooked up using HDMI cables with no problems ever. now it wont accept any HDMI sources. the tv turns on like normal so i figured the screen was fine. i used the component cables with my xbox and it showed up and everything ran fine but i was unable to raise the settings above 480i. so in a nutshell my HDTV wont display anything HD? my firmware is fully updated and i even had the TV power cord unplugged over night. any ideas would be a blessing im pretty stumped =/. thx in advance awesome people from AVSforum

Turn off the tv and game system. Unplug the tv and game system from the wall. Unplug the game from the tv. Leave it alone for 10 minutes. Replug the game into the tv, tv into the outlet. The reboot should fix it.

thx for the speedy response mes444, but it didnt work. the tv just sits there at the blue screen with no signal in the upper right hand side. is there a hard reset that can be done?

I think you will have to make a service call if the TV won't even accept 480p over HDMI and won't accept any resolution higher the 480i over component.
What about VGA?

i was actually trying something along those lines now to see if i could get my HTPC to set-up multiple displays to see if i could somehow force it but it wont detect the HDTV. the tv has no VGA port, i used a dvi-hdmi cable which worked well before hand. it is weird. picks up the video fine under 480i through the component cables for the xbox 360, but when i try to up it past 480i nothing. i guess i will call them tomarrow, great tv up till a couple days, still have hope if anyone has any ideas i got all night lol. still curious to see if there is a hard reset back to default factory settings and possible firmware ( besides the basic a/v setting resets in the menu) thx for the advice so far guys

as i previously stated in my 1st post that you quoted yes the tvs firmware is fully upgraded.

i did try using the components on my xbox 360 ( testing with just basic red/wht/yel )display ran fine in 480i with no problems. then i turned everything off, plugged in the HD component wires switch the a/v switch on the xbox360 from tv -> hdtv and it started up in 1080i. it seemed fine for a couple mins then my screen blacked out. so the tv runs 480 fine with no problems, but when forced on the component to run in HD blacks out after a few mins. and HDMI no signals even get deteced, tried other HDMI cables that were not on the tv verifying it is the tv and not any consoles, devices or cables, i greatly appreciate all the help you guys are giving, any other ideas? still looking into a possible hard reset or perhaps a firmware downgrade?

Red, White, Yellow cables are stereo audio and 480i composite.
YPrPB componnent cables are Red,Green, and Blue for video and Red and White for audio.
Are you still trying to run HDMI through your receiver instead of directly from ther Xbox?

i have been running the xbox 360 straight to the tv the entire time. basically heres the breakdown,
red/white/yellow = running fine, no problems except the limited pic quality
YPrPB = runs momentarily then shuts tv off randomly and back on, but works sometimes
HDMI = no signal whats so ever, the tv wont accept any HDMI signals from any source or any of the 4HDMI ports

When using YPrPb component what resolution are you able to send sometimes. Since you have a 1080p TV 1080i would be the best one to send.

@fl813

There seems to be an issue with the SSB in your TV, it might need to be replaced. Not sure what kind of warranty you have (1 or 2 yr.).

Anyhoos, call the CC @ +1 (866) 771-4018

They will recommend a servicer even if you are OOW. But u gotta pay for the part & labor

i switched it to 1080p and restarted it, it worked for awhile then the screen would turn black and reset after maybe 10secs

I agree. And you definatly want a servicer to change that part for you. SSB from Philips/Magnavox are a pain. There all kinds of option bytes and panel size information you have to tell the SSB or it will not work for long. Good luck to you

Very few if any YPrPb component interface chips accept 1080p/60 since that not an ATSC digital interface standard resolution that is why you have to send 1080i/60 or 720p/6-. I am not surprised that it would blank out after a few seconds if you tried to send it 1080p/60

That is true ... but not all SSBs require you to set option, panel & diversity codes. Some of the new Funai designed SSBs are extremely easy to replace. All you need is the panel code. But I still would not (and cannot) recommend customers to do that due to liability reasons.
