Sony KV-34HS420 HD Tuner

Ok, I have run into a little problem. I just got rid of Direct-TV and started with a local cable company. The cable company has HD on a few channels but they do not offer a cable "box" I hooked the cable into the UHF/VHF and do not receive HD at all. I know that this TV does not have a HD tuner. What are my options, can I get HD on this TV? HELP....

Hi there

You need to use an external digital tuner, aka STB or set top box.
The digital tuner is ATSC capable for OTA, plus you need QAM (demodulation) capability for (unencrypted) digital cable.

BTW don't bother looking at the coupon-eligible converter boxes. They don't tune cable TV channels.

It appears that the KWorld KW-SA290-Q LE has both an ATSC and QAM tuner. ATSC is for over-the-air (OTA) reception with an antenna and QAM is required for unencrypted cable channels.

ok, got the External ATSC/QAM TVBox HDMI Edition (SA295-Q DE)

I can now get my HD feeds, but now i cant get regular cable w/o splitting the cable. one feed to the box another to the TV. does this sound right?

Given that your cable company doesn't even offer stb's, I would guess that your "regular cable" channels use the old analog NTSC standard and your new box doesn't have that capability.

DirectTV to Mom&Pop cable company is a big jump.
