Sports breaking up on Samsung UN46C6300 via D*

First off, what's your source (cable, sat, ota, etc) and how is it hooked to the TV.

You don't say where you are and there is no location in your profile (very helpful to have that since so much of this is local)

Who carried the game you viewed.. Local channel? ESPN? NFL network? Regional Sports network? Which game was it? Do football games on all three of those channels exhibit the same issue? Or is one worse than the others?

The Samsung user's manuasl is very confusing when it comed to setting up frame interpolation motion compensation to reduce motion blur. Hopufully someone on this fourum can tell you how to set it properly. It should also be noted that ABC, FOX and ESPN-HD have less sports motion blur since the broadcast in 60fps 720p instead of in 30fps 1080i like CBS and NBC do.

It should also be noted that you may not be able to totally mitigate motion blur if the object is moving fast enough. There are other factors like shutter angle/speed that come into play.

Well 120Hz isn't going to make a huge difference simply because your frame rate is at maximum going to be 60fps (on a 720p network). Many TV productions just use an open shutter (360º angle) which equals lots of motion blur on fast pans, though in fairness cameras are usually not whip-panning on air and secondly your issue sounds maybe like the compression scheme can't keep up with motion not an issue with the production.

So you're watching 9 out of Denver. KUSA has two subchannels which rob quite a bit of bandwidth from their HD signal. NBC does HD in 1080i which pretty much needs the whole pie to look good. With filmed dramas and so forth, you don't notice it. With live 1080i sports, you'll see lots of artifacts anytime there's fast motion as there's just not enough bandwidth to handle it.

You most likely won't see quite the same mess on ESPN (720p).

I believe your CBS station is an O&O, so they don't have subchannels. Watch football on CBS Sunday and see if it's not a drastic difference from what you get from your NBC affiliate. You'll still see some artifacts.. can't be helped. ATSC is what it is. You might notice even better quality if you tune between CBS games on NFL Sunday Ticket.

According to page 16 of the User manual(see link below)Auto Motion Plus should be set to Custom in order for you to be able to try different setting values for Blur Reduction.

Also worth noting that frame interpolation algorithms often get VERY confused by compression artefacts - so if the source has been quite highly compressed, you may find you get more watchable results by inhibiting the frame interpolation (natural motion, motion flow etc.) and falling back on frame repetition (which will not interpolate frames but repeat them).

I recently purchased the same tv and have the Same issues as the OP especially when watching football on the NBC afilliate, and it's very bad when watching Monday Night Raw when there is a lot of strobe type lighting. I actually paused Raw last night and went frame by frame and you could see the pixelation, especially against red backgrounds and even foregrounds, so I'm guessing that's due to a highly compressed hd signal from USA network? Is there any reccomended settings for all the special features such as dynamic contrast, black tone, AMP, led motion plus etc, as it relates to watching fast moving programs such as sports or heaven forbid, wrestling

I'm using the above stated samsung un46c6300 hooked up to a comcast dual tuner hd dvr (silver motorola box) via cheapo hdmi cable in Griffith, in (right outside Chicago).

A lot of this can be attributed to sitting too close to a too large of a screen. Even the best broadcast TV will show imperfections at close range.
