Lava subs - Page 45

Well, just to update, I have decided to go with option C...Do-it-yourself.

Made my first purchase today: Dayton SPA500.
Next is TC Sounds Epic 12", and then box and hardware.

Guess I'll be mozying on over to the DIY thread...thanks for everyone's help here. Eric, thank you for being helpful. If I had decided to stay with a pre-fab powered sub, I was definitely going with the LSP12.

Hi,

I am new to this forum and feel little overwhelmed with the reviews of different subs, especially PL200/ LSP12/ HSU STF2. My budget is around $300 and all the ones I mentioned fall around that budget. HSU STF2 will be stretching my budget but may consider if it will give me the most home theater feeling.

I have Onkto TX-NR509 receiver, Polk Audio New Monitor 65T front speakers, Polk Audio 45B book shelf and 25C center speaker system. I play music and movies for equal amount and do play games on PS3 too. I listen to all kinda music, rock, metal, country music, R&B as well as some slow songs too. I don't have my room dimension as of now but I would say it's medium sized living room attached to kitchen so it does make it look big.

If I have to buy one which will give most complete Home Theater feeling irrespective of what i am listening, which one I should pick? Is anyone out here who has listen to all of the three subwoofers?

Thank you!!

This thread is a lot to read but I think I may be swayed.
They compared them to Polk Subs because Polk are one of the most popular brands in a similar price range. They also compare them to Klipsch, Mirage, and Velodyne. One of the best ways to move product is to compare it to your closest competitors... good contribution to the thread though...

Seems worth waking this thread from the dead. The Lava LSP12 has dropped all the way down to $170. The LSP10 is $150.

Good find. I was thinking the other day that I hadn't seen any posting on LAVA for a long time. I wonder how much longer the company will be around?

Or, maybe they have new models ready to roll-out and decided to clear out their inventory of LSP 12s and LSP 10s.

I had wondered whether or not this is a going out of business closeout price or noy.

Would be good if we could get statement from Lava Subs about that, as well as some reliability reports from people who bought them several years ago.
Its kind of sad that this thread hasn't had much activity as the Lava's have been great performers and reliable for the past 3 years at my brothers house. Perhaps the not so great deep bass extension revealed by Josh Ricci may have scared away some buyers?
has anyone gotten the AVS discount on top of the $170 per sub current pricing?
Both my 10s are still going strong.

a) Could you please let me know what is the AVS code all about. I am looking for a sub to my first home theater  with Yamaha 773 Receiver picked up few days back. My requirement is bit unique. Along with performance,  i have a size limitation. looking for one that is 13" in height or width or depth so that iti can fit into a international check-in .

Current options are

1) Outlaw M8

2) Lava 10 or 08

b) Any other recommendations is more than welcome.

c) Does Lava support 240V power in. I saw it written in the rear image. Any body who owns it please chime in.

My current room size is 10x12 but planning to have a 17x14 home theater set up in 2 yrs time, Will be looking for speakers that can be expanded to fit my future HT room and may be a second sub if needed later in time

Thanks

Lava used to give a discount code to AVS members when the MSRP on the Lava subs was roughly twice the price of what they are now. I can't imagine they will be offering that discount at the current price, which is way more than that discount was (I think it might have been 15 or 20%? not sure). You can email them and ask (that's how people used to get the discount code).

The Outlaw M8 will likely have a much linear response down to 30hz than the Lava LSP10. The LSP10 could likely have more output higher up in the midbass range. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the LSP10 when the LSP12 is only a little more. Particularly since you say you plan on having your setup in a larger room in the future.

Thank you for the response. Size is what keeping me away from lsp12 as it would not fit in the int travel luggage as I am shifting from us shortly.
Seems like 8 or 10 inch sub is all I can carry. If not lsp10 any other sub you suggest ll be of g8 help

I gotta say 2yrs in I'm still enjoying my lava. Great value. Had other and more expensive but you can't beat the lava. Had an issue and they were also very helpful. Good support. I liked that as well

Based on this review, the JBL SUB150P on sale at Neweggg for $199 after rebate may perform better than the LSP10, if the LSP10 measures with similar peaky response to the LSP12 in this review. But that's just a guess.

Sup guys, Im a bit new to this forum but I figured id give this a shot :)

Alright here goes; Im currently looking for a subwoofer to go with two powered Seismic audio 12 inch powered speakers (500 watt, love em). I will mainly be using the setup for music in my room (12x12) but I have it hooked up to my computer so I play games movies etc... and would like it to sound great for everything. I would prefer to have extra power because the setup is also goign to be used for parties and such. As well as occasionally moving it to the living room as a temporary HT system.

I have been looking around and it seems that for around 200$ the LSP12 might be my best bet. Any input? Also, does anyone know if the AVS member discount is still a thing?

Since black friday is coming, would it be better to wait and try to go for a far superior sub for less money? (I could probably go to 250-300$ if it was really worth it)

Do high end subs go on sale for black friday? Or am i better off just getting the lava?

Thanks guys, Sorry for the crappy formatting ;)

I was literally about to do the same thing. They changed the price about 30 minutes after my post, I feel like it might not be a coincidence :P

That's really disappointing. I bought one a couple weeks ago when this deal was first mentioned here. I'm pretty happy with it but as I played with the room positioning today (even rearranged the furniture), I couldn't help but think that I just needed a second one. I was absolutely ready to pull the trigger and then BLAM... sale price is gone. I'm going to try to give them a call this week and see if they'll do anything on the price since I'd be a "repeat customer." I know it's a long shot but I'm really itching to fill that second spot I carved out today. confused.gif

The price changed between Wednesday and Thursday. I had one in the cart to order, but saw the change when confirming. I called right away, Dawn squared us right up. Should be here by the end of the week!

Glad to hear it work out. I remember speaking with Dawn a few years ago when my brother had a delivery issue with his two subs. Lava has great customer service!

Those that bought the LSP12, any updates after a few months of ownership?
I'm very happy with my purchase of the LSP12. I was upgrading from a Dayton Audio SUB-1200 and the difference is notable. It's not dramatic but it was definitely a worth-while upgrade. More punch, more volume at a lower gain, less one-note. Also seems to do better with music than the SUB-1200.

I have a large room, though, and I really need to add a second LSP12. I'm just waiting to see if they'll go back on sale, though.

I have the SLP12 bought on sale. By the time It was broken in, it was no longer on sale. If I knew then, what know now I would have bought another one.Hands down! I too am watching and waiting for them to go on sale again.

oops LSP12

I can't remember the Lava LSP12 ever being that low in price before. Sorry, but I wouldn't get my hopes up about it happening again.

Lava used to give a discount code for AVS members if you emailed them. It wasn't a lot (can't remember how much), but you might have to be satisfied with that if you want a matching sub.
