The monolith is done woot! Was a PITA getting it from the garage to the HT room, but fortunately my son's friend next door left his skateboard ramps in our backyard, so I used them as a ramp to ride the hand truck over.

To test for leaks, I moved it onto the riser (on top of a couple rolled up towels to keep it from getting too scraped up and dusty from all the drywall dust in the room), and ran some test tones from my iPhone through the receiver. Didn't detect any, so buttoned it up, and gave it a brief test with some music and movie scenes. So far so good.

Here's my disgusting temporary equipment wiring. Yeah, lovely.

Back onto the hand truck, moved it into the left front corner firing up into the ceiling - my final location will likely either be that, or laying down firing into the left or right wall.

I accidentally deleted the photo of the RS SPL meter, but it was reading 105 dB at this voltage. Haven't pushed it very hard yet.

I'll be auditioning it some more this afternoon, will have to try some of the well known bass workout HT scenes and see how it goes. Probably won't be doing any REW for a while, since the room is so far from complete (untreated is an understatement).

congratutions to you on the build and bfm on the form factor (and your son's friend for the skate board ramps).

you've got a nice big screen going in there.

i suppose that i will point out the obvious, if those are the "mains" that you are planning to use, they may be a little outgunned by the subwoofer and screen size.

Thanks LTD, yeah, the speakers (B&W bookshelves) are definitely next on the list. Planning on replacing them with (almost as small) PRO-10s.
i haven't done much research on the pro 10's. i don't see how the horn can hold directivity through the crossover region being so small. in my opinion, the horn should always be a little larger, at least no smaller, than the driver it is crossing to. sometimes it can work if you push the crossover frequency up higher. most folks tend to like as low of a cross (and that implies as large of a horn) as possible.

No idea there LTD, that's territory I'm not competent to judge really - sort of another leap of faith I guess - like the THT was.

How you liking your THT so far? I've got the LP plans as well. Im building mine slightly smaller with a 12" driver I have on hand. Im anxious to get started.

Oops, sorry I missed your post premier - I love it, works great. So tempted to build another though - not because I need another, just because I enjoyed building the first one! Plus the talk about evening out response across multiple seating positions. Besides, I still have a half a box of drywall screws left over, it would be a shame to waste them - just need to add a few sheets of plywood, a driver, PL tubes, primer, paint, ...

Hope to see your build thread reactivated soon.

Thanks Kanaris - its called a THT Low Profile - basically its designed to be thinner and longer than a standard THT - works nicely for behind screen walls, whereas a THT would be too deep unless you have a very deep false wall.
Thanks! I know what you mean by deep false wall..click 'my setup' to see it.

Brad - If you get the chance, please send me the plans for your sub. I like to irritate Rocky with stuff. I want to find out what his pro audio company needs to build something like this.

Would love to Craig, but they are copyrighted works of Bill Fitzmaurice.

Yup, the first one is behind the screen firing into the left wall corner, this one will likely be firing into the other corner - unless I find that it works better laying the other direction, or firing up into the ceiling.

Awesome!

Glad you are getting a chance to make sawdust again!

Has anyone done a direct comparsion with a tht vs f20?

If someone has, I haven't seen it. I would imagine they would be comparable, given a THT of similar dimensions (the plans allow one dimension to vary). I'd be interested in seeing that comparison too.

I am curious as well...I am planning on building one of these two as my first DIY and am trying to decide which one.
