we still havent seen the shane flashback this season...

plus around 4:02 it looks like they return to where the vatos were but it may be a flashback since shane has long hair...

That could also be footage that ended up on the cutting room floor, especially after the shakeup of management.

anyone watch Talking Dead and how the make-up director stated that they filmed 2 versions of the ending one having Sophia completely normal to make it appear as the cast were invisioning her being safe and unharmed and as she got closer in focus have her appear as a walker?

the make-up guy also kept commenting almost under his breath or threw in his sentances that everything he liked seemed to have gotten cut out in previous episodes...specifically he said they wanted to show blood going down her back or something..and that they also filmed Otis coraling her out of the marsh

If that's the case then fingers can be pointed at the new showrunner Glen Mazzara. More than likely any change in artistic direction or plot progression can be laid at his feet.

i mean how much of the budget could it possibly be draining to throw some more zombies or blood on the screen? maybe thats why they said no to some of the scenes

Maybe I'm a simpleton or maybe it's just because I HAVEN'T been following this thread regularly, but I LOVED last night's episode and did NOT see that coming at all. I was probably lulled to sleep the past few weeks (save a few moments) and that's why it was such a good ending...but, FWIW, I thought it was excellent.

For a second there, I thought Shane was going to take out Herschel so that they all could stay on the farm and not be under his "rule". Can't wait for it to return after the holidays!

I already know what the response to my issue will be ("she got away after a bite"), but something bothers me. From what we've seen in pretty much all zombie shows/movies, the zombies pretty much tear apart any living thing they come in contact with.

Why is it then that so many of them are still pretty much whole? Especially Sophia. We're to believe that a little girl got away from some zombie with just one bite to the neck and then died later on?

She got a case of the Daryl's. Got bit on the edge of a ravine and they/she fell in. Sophia breaks her neck in the fall and reawakens as one of the undead. Would explain why the doll ended up down in the river.

Timeline is still a question however. According to Daryl's search we are led to believe she made it to the abandoned house to sleep for the night before then making it all the way to the farm to be barned up before the rest of them encountered Otis and his hunting rifle.

If this show wasn't so utterly predictable this season it would be a lot better, but at least they can stop looking for the girl. However the budget cuts are so glaring in S2, I can't see them leaving the farm anytime soon.

Damn shame what's happened to this show, pretty much all the suspense and action from S1 are gone.

+2, I was blown-away too!

I was extremely suprised - honest truth.

Sure, but that would have been pretty anticlimactic. The show is boring enough as it is.

Funny to see in the last episode that at least Carl held his stomach at least once, just to show "hey, I am still in pain even though I've been running around shooting guns two days after getting shot myself".

Daryl was in visible pain both times he threw the saddle too...

Oh, one other reason I was probably surprised is that I had no idea that this was the season 2, part 1 finale...I was expecting a typical episode and for it to be back next week (not February).

One improvement I noticed in this episode was the direction. There were a lot of interesting camera angles that harkened back to the style of the first season. Examples:
1) the camera is pointing down on the roof of a building, then swings up so we the characters below. It caught my eye because I didn't know what I was looking at for a few seconds;
2) The end of Daryl and Carol's discussion by the pond is a static shot of the pond with no people. I'm not sure of the intention, but it was a beautiful shot.

In comparison, earlier episodes in this season looked very flat and uninteresting.

Was it the previous episode to this one or the one prior when one of the farm folk says to Herschel "it happened again" or somehting like that? I assumed once this episode ended that what "happened" earlier was that the farm folk rangled the Sophia-zombie into the barn. That would have, of course, been after the death of Otis.

We also do not know 100% for sure that what Daryl found in the abandoned house was evidence that Sophia had been there - it's an assumption.

Either way, I felt bad for Carole....and Herschel...at the end. But with all Shane's bluster about how Rick is not "fit for this world" or of the right mind to lead....well, I think our sherrif proved how truly fit he is to lead when he plugged the Sophia-zombie. 2nd time Rick has had to kill a kiddie zombie, IIRC. Great way to end this half-season.

This episode was directed by Michelle MacLaren of Breaking Bad fame (which is incredibly well directed), so no surprise the direction was stand-out good this time.

I don't think that's true. Daryl found someone sleeping in the abandoned house, but he has no way of knowing it was Sophia.

The only firm evidence we have after they lost the trail on Day 1 of her disappearance was finding the doll in the river, which I think supports the theory that what happened to Daryl is probably similar to what happened to Sophia, except she ended up dead.

Wait wait, season 3? so Season 2 it's only 7 episodes? mmmm

Glad they finally "found" Sophia
Thanks for your comments Sturmie and PiratesCove. I can understand that the ending would have been much more surprising if the possibility that Sophia was in there had not been considered. The show could have gone many directions with her story, and making her a zombie in the barn actually opens more questions than it provides answers.

Here is the preview clip they showed during Hell on Wheels if people are like me and did not want to sit through that boring show:

Seems like the season picks up Immediately after the shooting

SPOILER: More arguing to eat up clock time

That was this episode, which led to Herschel asking Rick for his help wrangling. Herschel said it used to be Otis' job. Who's to say Sophia didn't get bit just after Rick lost sight of her. Plenty of time to get corralled by Otis.

During that final scene, I kept watching Hershel's reactions. Wasn't his wife or some other family member in the barn? I didn't see any particular reaction from him when any of them were shot.

It seemed like after he saw Shane shoot that one multiple times in the chest and it didn't "kill" it, that Herschel had some sort of realization, perhaps? Maybe he finally got that there was no way they would ever be cured.
He was probably just numb to what was happening. It was a lot to process.

On Talking Dead they mentioned that the one whose jaw was blasted off was Herschel's wife. And he DID react. Watch it again

If its a group of zombies yeah, but I'd one surprises you and bites you you could get away... Especially if it's a slow mover
