One nitpick from the finale. The father/son that had joined with the Governor - after the retreat the father shouts about how they (Rick's group) killed his son, but his son was the one that ran into the woods and was shot by Carl, so how could he have known he was dead.

The finale was epic. When they shot the grenade at the tower, whoah. Then when the Gov murdered his entire town. WHOAH. 5 minutes done.

When I saw the group packing up I thought they were meaning to actually leave the prison. I thought might have rigged traps or something. But the Gov would be pissed when there's no one there to murder, traps or not. I was guessing the Rick team would be on the road again, Gov's team would see Gov go ape **** over not being able to kill them and then realize he is ape **** and deal with him.

But instead we had our team scaring the other into a retreat, so they could eventually come back? I know their plan wasn't to infuriate the Gov into murdering his entire town.

Then the plan was to take 3 people and infiltrate the town again?

No, the son was the one who stepped between Merle and the Gov. during Merle's attack.

My interpretation was that the kid ran from the fighting but his father didn't see him. Then, when the father and rest of the Gov's people retreated, the father saw that his son wasn't with them and inferred it was because he had been killed along with the fighters who were killed by Rick's crew.

This is correct.

Yep, he got accidentally sniped by Merle. Although I didn't recognize him until they started crying about it afterwards.

Of course! I should have remembered that. The kid was as dead as the Wicked Witch.smile.gif

He was also the body that Merle was snacking on when Daryl found him.

I will say that this episode didn't quite meet my expectations. My expectations were pretty frickin high though. I like the development of Carl and Rick. It was shocking when the Gov shot all his people.

The visual effects were awesome but somewhat unrealistic. IMO a grenade shouldn't have destroyed the guard towers. They were steel reinforced concrete. Blow out the windows and whatnot, absolutely. But those guard towers looked like they'd been hit with mortars or something rediculously large. Seriously, who needs an M16 when a single man can carry whatever the gov was using? That grenade launcher would make Arnold & Stallone proud.

Yes I noticed that first viewing Merle munching on some teen meat , I guess his pops wasn't there..

I didn't think the father was going to get killed in that manner, I assume Tyler? was going to off him in some dispute being there was some tension between those two.

Boy did I miss this show last nigh, never seen Madmen need to catch up the last few seasons first.

I don't know if my recollection is wrong and I've already deleted the series, but on the guard towers, I don't think they were destroyed .. I believe what I saw in the aftermath was a skeletal structure on the top remaining as well as the concrete tower itself .. it looked to me like the top guard area could be rebuilt fairly easily ..

They used what appeared to be an AT4 to blow up the tower at the prison buildings. They cut that out but left the explosion in.

That was definitely NOT an AT4.

AT4:

What they used was a grenade launcher, looked very similar to this:

ETA - it's even on the page that you linked to, it's a DefTech 37mm rotary launcher, even have the screenshots there:

I know it was a grenade launcher. They filmed the scene with the guy using an AT4 (you can see it online) but cut the weapon sequence out and left in the explosion it creates, making it look as if the grenade did the job.

Which is what I said up there. ^^^

Ahh, it read as if you were saying they cut away from it launching the shot, not that there was a deleted scene.

You can tell why they cut it. To fire the launcher they need to stop, get out and aim. They obviously just wanted to make the guys tear through the yard shooting to make everything faster. They didn't want to waste the pyrotechnics though.

I was being sarcastic.

Yes the FX were cool, but did not make the entire hour live up to everyone's expectations. Based on the hype of the producers.

For what it's worth, that wasn't visual effects. It was practical special effects filmed in camera.

As to unrealistic the thing that bothers me is why all the zombies skulls pop like ripe melons.

Some extra explosiveness i just take as normal in Hollywood.

Of course it is done for shock value, but I can suspend disbelief in considering that the more "rotted" walkers have become a bit mushy.

Which leads to the question about the longevity of the walkers in the "Walking Dead" universe. They seem to continue to deteriorate so it would seem that their numbers will soon dramatically decline.

How in the world did the zombie apocalypse ever happen? The Dead are so easy to kill, shove, push away and control. No brains (other than the ones they eat). At first I was mesmerized now I watch for the "soap". Good character study but the terror goes away.

According to what Kirkman has communicated in various media, the origin is intentionally not described and never will be. Presumably the original infection spread quickly and many people were much more susceptible to dying from it (without being bitten) than the current survivors. Remember that they learned at the CDC that everyone is infected with the virus, which is why they "turn" when they die.

IIRC- they never mentioned how it started- only the fact that once you get bitten- you get a super high fever- you die- then you eventually come back as a zombie.
But, as we all now know- "everybody's infected"- so it most likely spread as an airborne virus.

The Walkers were never intended to carry the show .. after all, week after week of Walker slaughter would get old pretty quick ..

The readers of the comic keep telling us that, over and over, and somehow we still don't get it...remember the walking dead refers to the still living, not the zombies. It is a character study, of those trying to find hope in a hopeless situation. The cause could be nazis or little green men from mars, it doesn't really matter. What matters is the clash between what makes us human with the primal need to survive.

The S3 limited edition blu-ray set. This is just too badass. Had to preorder it.
