AIX 3D Records--A Whole New World

I spent much of the last weekend watching/listening/experiencing AIX Records 3-D BD Goldberg Variations. And now I am looking for proper words to describe it. First, every one of you who loves music must buy it. When you get it home, darken your TV room, place a chair 1 to 1 1/2 screen sizes from your set, pour a glass of Grand Marnier (or whatever your favorite libation is (or a joint, if you have one)) go to "chapter" number six(Variation # 4)(the whole disc is excellent, but six/seven is a great initial experience)-- and experience a whole new world. After you do that, you will fall on the floor laughing at anyone who says 3-D is not worth the cost/effort. Have you ever been a part of a jam session? What was the best live musical experience of your life? Well, you can now go there again in your own home. What is that experience worth? This is true virtual reality-- you experience it -- not watch it. This is not a new form of television -- this is a whole new world.

I just received this disc in the mail and watched it yesterday afternoon. I do not have a 3-D set-up, but I figured why not try it anyhow? It doesn't cost any more than AIX's 2-D Blu-ray music discs, and it plays fine in my Oppo BDP-83SE player. I loved this music, and would recommend it highly.

Like everyone I wanted 3D content to show friends and relatives at home. I have to say The 3D display was as if you were there as the music is played. Combine that with your surround sound system and you will see what's ahead for 3d content and why. I have all the 3D demo's and 3D bluray movies released, some better than others given the 3Dtv and 3D glasses, I would show this 3D music album first to first time viewers. They may not do back flips for some of the great music but this 3D album will show the new 3D technology coming. Hats off to AIX Team!
I ordered this 3D Album from Amazon along with the "A High-Resolution Audio Experience". Both a "must have" for your 3D collection. Note: I also play both on my OPPO BD-83SE (not 3D) and sound is excellent. My 3D player is the Panasonic xx-350 and it is excellent too.

So...Am I missing something or will this disc not play in 3d on a PS3?

I don't see a 'play in 3d' option and I am only getting the 2d video.

I'm having the same problem. I can see 3D games in 3D on my PS3, and I see nice 2D HD on the Goldberg Variations Acoustica disc playing it on my PS3 (v. 3.50), also great TrueHD sound. But no 3D picture, so far. It's pretty disappointing. I was counting on using my PS3 for 3D video and HD sound, but now I'm starting to think I'll have to buy a 3BD player that actually works.

Have you asked Dr. AIX his opinion?

Hows about a link to the site that sales this item? Thanks.

Thanks very much for the positive comments about our first 3D Music Album...the Goldberg Variations. It's nice to know that the resources and my entire summer was not spent without some nice recognition. And there is more to come. I've just finished our 3D sampler and calibration disc. It's off to the replicator and will be available for shipping in about a week. It contains examples of all of the 3D stuff that we shot back in June and some beauty shots around southern California.

The next will be the Old City String Quartet....in about two weeks. I'm headed to Bogota, Columbia on Thursday to give the keynote address to the Latin American AES (Audio Engineering Convention) next weekend and then spending some time in the national parks.

The reason that the Goldberg doesn't work in the PS3 (and never will) is that Sony in all their wisdom decided not to support 3D using BD-J authoring. All of our new titles are being done in HDMV, which does work on the PS3. Sorry for that.

FYI, although GVA remains my favorite 3DBD(and my favorite music video), I have to give it one demerit--the sound stage does not align with the video--hence, the drums which are on the left of the video, can be heard on the right. As I understand it, AIX still follows the instrument alignment mix it used before making 3D videos.

So now you tell us, $40 later. That's irritating.

It's not like Sony told anyone the PS3 wouldn't support BD-J or lossless audio in 3D mode until right before the update was released...

It's not? Dr. AIX posted about it on September 4:

Just ordered one. With the holidays coming up it'll be good to have something to entertain folks with.

And the disc was already released before this was known...

If you have a problem with the PS3 not being fully Blu-ray 3D compliant take it up with Sony. The official Blu-ray 3D specification does not forbid the use of BD-J. Every other Blu-ray 3D player (whether hardware or software) supports BD-J and lossless audio in 3D.

I'm just back from giving the keynote at the Latin American AES conference (on 3D Audio) and preparing our next release in 3D. The AIX Records 3D Sampler and calibration disc is at the replicator right now and the Old City String Quartet playing Mozart is coming soon (within a few weeks).

All of our new releases are being authored without BD-J so that they will be compatible with SONY PS3s. It's a drag that they refuse to bring their machines up to current 3D standards but that's the way it is.

Any idea when the firmware update from Samsung will be out to allow this to be played on on their 6900 3D player?
I actually went out and purchased a Samsung BD 3D Player after several customers reported that the Goldberg disc was working fine in their systems...and it does! The only one that I have not heard positive results are the LG machines (and of course the PS3).

I've just added the Mozart 3d Music Album to my website...it's almost finished. Expect delivery in about 4 weeks.
I purchased a Samsung BD 3D Player and it plays our 3D content successfully. Just thought I would let people know. Working on the next one right now...Rita Coolidge.
I may have go for the Goldberg Variations. I need more 3D content, like everyone else!
Anyone interested in trading for this or buying it cheap?
So it is confirmed then that the AIX Records 3D Music Album Demo & Calibration Disc is authored in HDMV and will work in the PS3? Thanks.
We have authored the 3D Music Album in HDMV but am having some difficulty in getting it to pass verification and be completely ready for replication. I'm seriously considering abandoning the PS3 as a viable 3D platform especially since it doesn't support HD audio...and after all it's all about the music for me.
I paid my money for this disk thinking that it was ready for shipping. They have my money, but I don't have the disk. Now there is another delay. Not too happy.
I understand the frustration...I finished all of the authoring 3 months ago and have been waiting every since myself. I was assured that we'd have the PS3 thing nailed...it was not to be. If you or any customer would like a refund...just let our orderdesk know and I'll gladly refund your purchase.

I'll wait if it's not too long, as I'm a Mozart fan.

I'd say just abandon the PS3. Your discs are all about music and not supporting lossless audio should really make it a non-viable option for anyone purchasing your discs...
