I'll have to give this a try. Although I prefer Sauza Hornitos tequila in my Margaritas. Patron should never be used. It's for sipping or shootin'... my favorite way. Truth be told, I actually prefer Don Julio tequila. It's about the same price as Patron, but is actually smoother. Don't raise your eyebrow to me. I wouldn't lie to you. The Wabo preaches the truth.

What's up with the water, Oink? C'mon, man.

Due to blood pressure concerns, I avoid salt as much as I can.
But ya gotta use limes with tequila shots, IMO.

Some guys use beer as a chaser with shots of tequila....some include the lime, some don't.
Although I like to use beer as a chaser with my Irish Whiskey, with tequila shots I just use lime wedges.

No you may not use salt & a lime with Patron. That's for the lesser tequilas, e.g. Jose Cuervo, 1800, etc. The Patrons, Don Julio's and the like require no training wheels. It'd be like mixing Johnny Walker Blue Label with Coke.

Ordinarily, I would grab a lime while doing shots of tequila.
However, you are right that some tequila is sooooo good, it does lose something when mixed with externals.

10 years ago or so I found a tequila (distilled in Oregon) so good, I wouldn't even think of a lime (and it wasn't very expensive smile.gif).
Tragically, I have since forgotten the brand (DAMN tequila!frown.gifmad.gif).

By law tequila can only be made in Mexico. So I have no idea what you were drinking 10 years ago. Lol. Joe the Rag Man slapped a tequila sticker on a bottle of the Mad Dog 20/20.tongue.gif

It's funny, but I have thought about doing something similar.

As I have mentioned above, Central Oregon is a hot bed for micro-breweries (and now some distilleries are moving in too).
In addition, the area is one of the finest places in the country for outdoor activities and sports.
We have almost everything you can imagine: whitewater rafting, kayaking, winter skiing, world famous fly fishing, rock climbing, hiking, biking, dormant volcanos, etc.
In other words, plenty of background for the boys to do their show (6 Pack Challenge, anyone?).
It really would be a no-brainer for them to do an episode here.wink.gif

Well, I'll tell ya what. The website is not a good indication of the actual environment. Not only is the barmaid hot as a firecracker, but she's educated myself, and a couple of my British friends on the history, brewing process (and even one of the old-fashioned taps they have for pouring their beer dujour) of many of their brews. Unfortunately her boyfriend works there too (well, her boyfriend as of the last time I was there), so I have to mind my p's & q's. Anyway, it's in the "uptown" section of Dallas and is a bit of a hike for us so we don't get there too often, but it's quite a treat when we do.

Last Saturday, September 22nd, marked the start of the legendary 16 day beer festival known as Oktoberfest. What started as a wedding ceremony in Munich, Germany has now become the biggest beer festival in the world and is celebrated in numerous countries and cities. Some things you may not know about Oktoberfest:

  • The traditional festival is 16 days long but an extra day was added when the Berlin wall fell.
  • Oktoberfest officially starts with the lord mayor of Munich tapping the first keg of Oktoberfest beer.

  • A large tuft of animal hair called a Gamsbart is usually attached to those green hats and is a sign of manliness.

  • The category for Oktoberfest beer has strict rules the beer must be brewed within the Munich city limits and have an alcohol content of 6%.
  • In 2010 visitors drank 7,100,000 liters of beer.
  • Bavaria, a giant iron statue in a greek godess style, was constructed to watch over Oktoberfest.
  • Oktoberfest is the home of the largest portable roller coaster in the world.
  • Especially drunk patrons are often called "Bierleichen" (German for "beer corpses").

I've never seen this show, but the topic made me think of this drunk I picked up when I was a paramedic in Aurora, CO about six yrs ago. (Yes the same Aurora where the theater shooting recently happened. That nut job lived half a mile from my station. Probably ran a half dozen calls in or around his apt bldg/week. A real sh!thole area. Most of the residents around there were just as worthless as him, but I digress.) Wasn't sure wether he was on his way in or out, but we took him to the hospital next door. After finishing my trip report, I went to get the RN to sign it and he was looking at a magazine the boozer had on him. The way they were looking at it made me think it was porn. Nope, Modern Drunkard Magazine. Swear to god. It had all kinds of crazy articles like 10 Ways to Get Sauced in the Barrio, etc. I think he tried all 10.
