You sir have a keen eye and yes its one of those vegas subs DIYcable sold out when cleaning out. They are absolute beasts and unfortunately they were before my time. I cannot even fathom what 4-8 of these in sealed config with adequate power would do to your body.......


I've been sitting on this thing and kinda plotting how to work it into the setup. Ultimately a boring sunday morning won out and a couple hours later I had it framed into an existing attic access panel and hooked up to an extra channel on one of my amps.


Yes, Its quite impressive. Especially down low which is where I wanted it to work. The infrasonic has been substantially augmented. Several demo scenes today with my brother we got some serious kidney punches and I LIKE IT!!!!!

Total now 6 sealed MFW15s and 1 IB Mael X 21. Two more MFWs are due this week or next and I hope to finish up my sub adventure with 8 MFWs and the Mael X filling in the uber lows. Sounds pretty powerful, still havent run audyssey or done any EQ so there is A LOT more to be had from this addition.

Yeah they're pretty hard to hide, if you ever consider hiding a 21" woofer that weighs 53lbs......

As far as the bracing: Behind the baffle the studs framing the opening are tripled and braced back down to the ceiling joists of the first floor. I can detect tiny bit of vibrations in the wall when the levels are really high but realistically the whole rooms breathing at those levels so I really can't expect that wall to be any different. The only way to get there would be turn back time to construction of my house and do more isolation/decoupling.........

I've always been fascinated with the IB Idea. If this current setup don't workout, FI is really the only good option nowa days for a good 4-8 18" IB setup.......IMO.

I have not changed anything with the rack ventilation. It currently pulls air in bottom of rack up and back out into room. Eventually I want to use a ventilator and exchange the heat to another room in the house.

I did find a couple things which have made an enormous improvement.

My HVAC return manifold had a seam with a loose tape seam, fixed that.

Also, my thermostat has a setting for the air handler to "circulate" or run the air handler periodically even when the pump is off which keeps the air more homogenous throughout house. Turned this setting on.

Another thermostat settting determines how long air handler runs after pump turns off. i increased this setting so air handler runs longer.

Temps are now tolerable but like i said the best solution would be exchange to somewhere downstairs.

I spent the afternoon re-running Audyssey and applying EQ to the subs. I still need to set the gain structure but overall so far very pleased with the new addition.

My calibration setup is accurate to 10Hz and yes the subs are waaaaay hot. As I mentioned before I have to set gain structure so they will likely be turned down. This is why I didn't show the rest of the graph.....

It is flat to ten with exception being the bump below 20 which I believe has something to do with the (Fs) of all the drivers being centered right at that frequency. It could also be a room anomaly though. The BFD does not easily work below 20 and I didn't have enough time to get real creative with overlaying filters to try to tame that bump below 20. Its some task to overlay them and make sure your not doing something crazy stupid and accidently netting like 10db boost somewhere under the overlay.... Realistically I'll probably leave that little bump alone.

I'll post a full spectrum after I get the gain structure set. It will still likely show at least a 6db house curve. This is fine as my mains really run out of steam at about 111db(calculated) and pushing them beyond that just doesn't sound good.

I really want a MiniDSP, especially now I have more subs than the BFD can effectively manage.

I havent watched it since i added the mael but it was pretty cool before!

The mael should displace more air than 2 of the mfws so.......

The volume of my space is approx 2300 cubic feet.

Bad news in the homefront though my drivers came in yesterday UPS and BOTH WERE DESTROYED!!!! The seller said they were fine when he shipped them.

I finished dialing in the subs last night and did some listening. The headroom improvement is quite astonishing.... I actually believe I'm getting close to "enough bass" which is somewhere I never thought I would arrive.

The plan is still to go with the 8MFWs and see how long the Mael will hold together. If it craps out I'll use it passive as a resonator in the wall.

Maybe this weekend I'll shoot some pics of the MaelX under some high excursion, it is quite unreal to see that much woof with that much travel.....

I do like the IB sound though, and If I were to re-do my sub setup I think it would be an IB setup. Easy to power and lots of displacement/extension, best of both worlds IMO.

Until then i'll have to limp along with my Pioneer elite Vsx-03txh, and ONLY 7 Channels with no Audyssey! Blasphemy!

Well heres the skinny, i bought second hand an orig owner provided receipt. Hopefully onkyo wont give me trouble about our names being different.......

No its not that old just over two years to be exact...... Considering it was one step below their flagship, I expected better quality.

Many owners have had the same problem im having with no audio, apparently they had problems with the HDMI board.

Im gonna switch it out tomorrow which should be lots of fun since the Pioneer is much less sophisticated in the bass management department especially. Guess I get to polish my sub EQ skills!!!!

MCCAC does some stuff for the subs like standing wave control but i dont think it does anything as far as EQ.....

I do have outboard eq fir the subs though ill get it flat enough to get by in the meantime.

Oh sorry yeah the buyer was really good about it, gave money back immediately.

Ups came and got them or warranty claim.
