Just thought I'd drop by and say I originally ordered the 50G25 from panasonic.com with an friends and family discount, but was told that they were out of stock after my order went through. Panasonic decided to upgrade me to the 50GT25 for free. Be jealous :P
Did you get yours yet? I ordered a g25 on 11/24, order was changed on 12/10 to the GT25.

I'm almost ready to buy the GT25 from Amazon but wonder how it will connect to the network using wireless wifi. I;ve got wifi in my home now and use it to connect NETFLIX with a ROKU box; this would replace that.It seems from the instructions that a wireless LAN dongle would work plugged into one of the USB ports. Has anyone done this? Any problems?

I just purchased a TCP54G25, very happy!

Kinda new to all of this, so hoping to get some advice. I'm mostly interested in playing Netflix for now but wondering what other internet options would be nice.
Will a blu ray player do anything the panasonic wireless adaptor will also do? Or will the adaptor open up more internet options?

I'm getting a blu ray player but wondering if it is worth it to also purchase the panasonic or netgear adaptor.

To anyone who had their order changed from one model to the GT25,

I placed a order through Panasonics EPP for a TC-P50G25 on December 15 it was changed to a 50GT25 on the 20th and arrived today. However it did not come with the 3D starter kit. I was just wondering of anyone else who had gotten the upgrade got the 3D starter kit as well. I have called Panasonic and emailed them but no response yet. The guy i spoke to on the phone said he would have to check and call me back. Will report back when I hear back but just curious about others experience.

My order was changed also. Will be taking delivery on 1/7. Spoke with Panasonic and was advised the upgrade would not include the kit. If you learn anything new please be sure to post.

A friend of mine has the Panny dongle and it works quite well. I plan on using the Netgear dongle primarily because it's less expensive than the Panny. It is the only non Panasonic dongle that they've approved. "Netgear WNDA3100v2".

Ok I kinda thought it probably wont. Still waiting on Panasonic to get back with me. But if it doesn't its not a big deal I have no problem with going out and buying it. They did a lot for us in just giving us the upgrade so I wont be upset either way.

Does anybody know where I might be able to find the GT25 in montreal, canada? I would LOVE to upgrade to the GT25 from my current G25 mainly for the faster phosphors.

Hi all! Glad to see some discussion of this set, which with the various end of year deals I am now closer to buying than any other HDTV after endless review and forum-reading (and I've been living with a broken 27" CRT for two years =) ). I had two small questions that hopefully some owners of the set might be able to answer:

1) Originally, I was set on buying a 50" G25 a few months ago, but reading reviews, the prevalence of floating blacks on the set scared me off a bit, since while I've never seen them, know I can be sensitive about things like that. How have things been thus far with the GT25? The pro reviews I've read seem to say they are not nearly as much of an issue on the GT25, but I figured it'd be best to ask here. Given that this will primarily be used as a 2D set, it's really the only issue that's holding me back from ordering right now.

2) I don't intend to get anything professionally calibrated, but I'd also like to get the best picture quality and least chance of IR with my long-since degraded technical skills. Do optimal settings/break in procedures exist for this set? Or would the D-Nice settings used for the G25 pretty much apply here as well (or the settings for the VT25)?

Thanks in advance for any advice/thoughts, since while I'm excited to be this close to ordering, I don't have the mental strength to deal with a return.

My 42GT25 came today and I got it all set-up. I really like it. This is my first HD set, so I finally get to see what my Xbox 360 and PS3 games look like in 720p and 1080p respectively.

I used some calibration numbers I originally found on tweaktv for the THX picture mode, but for some reason the page I found them on is now telling me I'm not authorized to view it.

Lets talk mounts...I am paranoid about what mount to get. I just keep thinking that whatever one I buy wont be the right one and wont line up correctly.
What mounts are everyone using? I plan on getting one from Monoprice but not sure which one yet. I will be putting the power, network and HDMI wall receptacles behind the tv so that needs to be taken into consideration.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Does anyone have any calibration info on this tv yet? Got mine yesterday and set it up, but I haven't found any calibration numbers to use or any other set-up info for that matter.

I have been looking for calibration info for the past couple days, but I haven't been able to find much. I found these here:
http://panasonic.net/avc/viera/us201...ealSettings#gt

Those might be a good place to start.

From what I've gathered, the burn-in process takes about 100 hours, but not everyone does the slide-show of color pictures and all that. Panasonic says on their FAQ page to just be careful with your viewing for the first 100 hours, so I guess how you break it in is more of a personal preference than anything. Panasonic just says to be careful with keeping still images on screen for an extended period of time (like a DVD title menu) or a video game that has a lot of still images, etc. I started using mine right out of the box, and I'm just being careful with what's on the screen for the first week or so. That's what my dad did with his Panasonic plasma, and his looks amazing.
Anyone have a link to preferred calibration settings for the P42G25 during 100hr break-in? Looked at the above link from prev post, but those contrast settings seem to be too high for break-in period.
Just got upgraded today from panasonic. Is the 100hr burn from the D-Nice settings recommended?
I also ordered the G25 through employee purchase, was upgraded to the GT25 (they were out of G25's) and received it today. I can confirm that those who are lucky enough to get upgraded don't also get the 3D Starter Kit or any glasses. I have a few questions:

1. I'm also looking for the non 3D calibration settings. If someone has them, I'd appreciate if you could post them on this thread.

2. Is there any way to connect my old receiver which doesn't even have a digital cable input? The only audio out port on the TV is a Digital Audio Out. I'm researching receivers....they've gotten very complicated....so I'm going to have to live with my old receiver for a few weeks.

Thanks,

Ordered the G25 via EPP on 11/30 - got the upgrade to the GT25 call on 12/16 - delivered today (12/30). Wall mounted (pictures forthcoming) with this mount I got from Amazon:

I'm pretty happy with the mount. I am just trying to find the burn in thread ad going to start it tonight.

Hey guys, after not being all that happy with my brand new Samsung PN50C490, and it basically being too big for my room, I decided to sell it. I got 800 for it from my in laws, and I immediately bought the TC-P42GT25 off Amazon. I had it in my cart and ready to buy from an Amazon vendor for 920 plus 55 shipping, when I decided to see how much Amazon itself was selling it for. It was one of those deals where they show the price of 1699 with a line through it, then you have to add to cart to see the price. So I did that and it was 1007. I thought that was an ok price and decided to get to the last page of the process to see the full price with shipping, and to my surprise the price had a mysterious -$200 promo added and it went down to 807. I immediately bought it. Just in case this mysterious promo went away.

Anyway I have a question that I had searched for everywhere, and hopefully someone here with the same TV can answer. Does the internal USB media player play MKV's? I have several Side by Side 3d movies that are in MKV format. One of which is a 15 gb file of Avatar that plays perfect through my Samsung in 3d, playing it directly off my external hard drive. So I am hoping that the Panny will play MKV formatted movies.

Thanks in advance for any help on this issue.

Is it okay to use the custom picture mode with my own settings for everything? I use my PS3 to play games and watch blu-ray/dvd movies, and that is hooked up HDMI. I also play my Xbox 360 on the TV, but that is hooked with component cables, as is my satellite box (until I get an HD receiver). Is it okay to use the custom picture mode with my own settings for everything? I don't want to put the PS3 on the game picture mode, because the settings will probably the effect the picture quality on the movies I watch. Hope that makes sense. Let me know, thanks.

No, this TV does not play MKVs. It's media player is actually quite limited compared to current gen samsungs which is why I am streaming 1080p movies to the panasonic using my PS3.

Of course you can use any setting and picture mode you want. Why wouldn't you? As far as input lag and gaming go, as long as you turn off all image processing options lag should still be negligible even outside of game mode from my understanding. Hope that answers your question.
Well that sucks. Im not sure if I have anyway to watch the over 4gb NTSC format files then. I cant stream them via PS3 because it wont recognize NTSC, and FAT 32 has a 4gb limit. So Im not sure how Ill be able to watch the large MKV 3D movies I have unless I burn them onto expensive dual layer dvd's.

Any ideas on what I might be able to do other than burn? Ive ran out of ideas.

PS: Will it play AVI and MP4?

Thanks. I figured it was a silly question, but this is my first HD set, so I want to make sure I don't screw something up

Thanks...It's funny. at the last minute I decided to pull the trigger on the Samsung C7000 instead. Not sure why but the price on Amazon was better for the C7000 and it seemed like the better overall value. MIght regret it but we shall see. Thanks again for your info. I appreciate it.

Well PS3 doesn't support MKVs natively either but I have my console networked to my PC where I run a program called PS3 Media Server which works great. Only other options I can see are to either buy a HTPC or a media player such as a WDTV.

I figured out a way to get all my MKV's to play on the new Panasonic. It was hard to find but I finally found out what video formats the internal media player on the TC-P42GT25 will play. And its not alot. According to some specs I read its only MPEG2, and AVCHD. So I found a free video converter (that surprisingly actually works), and converted my 15GB Avatar 3D SBS MKV, into MPEG2, which took almost all night. But it made a 22GB perfect working copy of it. So now Ill convert the rest of my MKV's, and hopefully theyll all play.

this is the instructions from Panasonic for break in (I think someone asked for it) my TC-P42GT25 is coming in at the end of this week or next

http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs...tGroupId=24973

4. What is the "break-in" period and what should I do during the break-in period to minimize any risk of image retention?

When your plasma TV is initially installed, the first 100 hours of use is known as the "break-in period." During this time, to minimize any risk of image retention, you should:

1. Make sure the plasma TV is in a viewing mode (aspect ratio) that completely fills the screen. The panel is shipped in this condition, in what is called the "Just" mode.

2. Turn down the Picture setting (in the Picture menu) to +0.

3. Briefly engage the 4:3 mode and confirm the side bars are set to "Mid", or "Bright". This can be adjusted in the Set Up menu.

4. Always return the display mode that fills the screen (such as Just, Zoom, Full, or H-FILL).

5. Try not to view channels with stationary backgrounds or logos for extended periods of time.

6 .Avoid extended display of static images (video games, computer images, DVD title screens, etc.).
How do you plan to do the break-in ? Are you using D-Nice's reference settings for G25 ? I am getting mine in 2 days and would be starting the break in process.

I had the same question. I posted in on the official 2010 panasonic thread and got the following response.

The experts recommend the settings of G25 for GT25

Like most others, I got my order for G25 upgraded to GT25 and I am receiving my box on 1/4. I was told by Panasonic representatives that the box does not include any 3D glasses.
