Thats interesting never heard that. Wonder if it has something to do with the set expanidng or contracting because of heat ?

I should probably also mention that I now have it hooked up to a Tripp Lite LC1200 1200W Line Conditioner and it has had no effect on the pops, before or after.

Could it be another component and not the TV? Try unplugging the TV power and see if it still makes the noise. That will at least tell you it's the TV for sure.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

This is exactly what Panny first tried to tell me was my problem. I didn't buy that for me, but it may apply to you. Or not.

In any case, my update is that I contacted them over chat. They came back with other inane things (unplug the HDMI cable; did it happen again?) until I asked what part on the TV makes that noise normally. When she wrote, "I don't have the information on the inner part, who will have this information would be our technicians", I asked to be connected with one. So their Concierge will be contacting me to talk with a tech. I had brought up the buzzing in the chat, as well.

@aidoroboo: For all I knew it was HD-nirvana coming in and crap coming out only due to the TV, so I'm relieved to hear it's much more likely the crap was something else. Score a learning for me.

Also, I had picked up a Wii component cable when I first got the TV: $5.59 from Amazon back in late March (now $3.94 from Amazon, and looks like $3.92 from MP, oh well). So now I have 480p there. Thanks for the tip b/c I could have missed that one.

Monoprice: I've read (here/elsewhere) and browsed them before, but I guess I just haven't gotten used to their interface to buy anything from them. On the one hand, it's overwhelming (so many choices, bad layout for me, my brain shuts down), and nothing is rated which I depend on Amazon for (I guess that's a trust issue b/c I'm unfamiliar with the seller/product ... should I trust everything they sell?).

Like chunon said . It sounds like it's caused from heat , you know when you just get back from driving your car , you get out of your car , and you hear the popping noise , thats the heat of the engine heating up metal expanding / contracting .. pop pop pop

At the prices that Monoprice charges, I don't need a review.

99% of my online purchases are from Amazon. Buying cables from Monoprice is easy, cheap and pretty fast. Can't beat 6' HDMI cables for $3. I should note that shipping might cost the same for 1 cable or 4.

I just got my gt25 and I have very faint vertical bands running up my screen, as well as one less faint one. It is very very faint when running the color slides but when I popped in Red Dead Redemption and panned across the night sky I could see the bands a lot more. I recently bought a Sony 46ex500 LCD and it had this same problem, though it was a lot worse, returned it for another ex500, same thing, tried a Samsung c630 same thing, so I thought it must be the LCD technology. Than got the g25 and it too has these faint bands, again, alot better than the LCDs. I am beginning to think it is just an issue with all flat panel TVs and I am very sensitive to it. It is noticeable also watching hockey, but it is not as bad as grey, green panning backgrounds. I think it must be informties in the panels themselves.

If anyone has Red Dead Redemption in GTA give this a try in the night sky, pan left and right and you should see bands if they are there.

Did you ever think it was the cables you are using? Especially if you have you console hooked up to the other TVs. Or is there interference from something else?

I would unplug all your equipment and only have the TV plugged in, put some photos or video on a thumbdrive and show it on the TV or Netflix if the TV is plugged into a LAN and see if the banding appears. If so, you can conclude the it's the TV but I doubt it. After you check the TV reconnect your other sources one by one and check them with the TV.

The slides are being played off an SD card, and on the Sony you could really see it on the no input screen cause it was a turquoise color so it is not my cables.

Here are pics of my LCDs I went through and returned.

It really stood out in the sky of GTA especially if you panned. It was more horizontal on this particular set. And the bands were huge.

As I said, this Tv is way way fainter than the ex500 in the pics, but it's the same idea.
If you tilt your monitor a little you see it better. I can live with it though, on the gt25 it wont show up on pictures like the other tv

Ok here is a pic of my 50gt25 with an red slide (not sure why it looks orange). You can very very faintly make out the vertical as well as horizontal lines. The screen is not uniform.

Try a different location in the house
Not really an option, you think that could be the issue? Also I have it hooked to one of those expensive monster surge protectors that helps keep a steady current. The LCDs had the problems in 2 separate houses so I am thinking it is not my power, but that is a good suggestion.
50" GT25 coming tomorrow. I plan on using the settings laid out in Nutdotnet's post. Thanks btw.

Anything else I need to be aware of before I sit down to enjoy my TV?

Do you have any other cables hooked up when running the slides or is it totally isolated? i.e only line conditioner>TV power cord; nothing else. Then run slides off of SD/thumbdrive. Cable can drag in a lot of noise.
I was just thinking that maybe its a case of high power being ran next your house or there is a big magnetic field somewhere next to the wall or under the location of the TV. Its a longshot but you have also went through a good amount of TVs with the same issue. Anything could be possible. Changing locations would just 100% verify that it is not where it is at.

Kind of how they say Plasmas buzz differently in different elevations.

Both of the Panasonic plasmas I've had (including my current GT25) do this, I figured it was just characteristic of them. Doesn't bother me. Oh, mine only happens when it's powered on.

My VieraCast Netflix queue is not updating. I can watch the movies it has listed, and it lists recent movies that I've watched on my other devices (Oppo BDP-93) but I can't click on the recently watched movies & it is missing the movies I've recently added to my queue.

Any ideas?
Netflix has been flaky on my Oppo 93 lately, although it was fine today. Sometimes I can't get past my queue. For whatever reason I haven't set up my GT25 for Netflix, just the Oppo.

If anyone could post a few pics of some slides on you tvs so I could see if they have banding. I just want to know if I return it, that I have a chance of getting a tv free of these issues. PM the photos and your paypal and I will send you 5 bucks.
I have noticed that the netflix on the tv has some problems. not listing all of the titles and also not being very smooth even when I have it connected to the ethernet cable.

After researching, my problem appears to be the `dirty screen effect, which is very common, most people arn`t bothered by it though so I guess I will keep it.
b_rad,

It seems I have the same issue with my screen, albeit to an apparently lesser degree. I can make out darker vertical lines forming a sort of "grill" in the center of the screen, expanding horizontally a lot more than vertically, and covering about the center 1/3 of the 50" screen. They are there even when the TV is off. I tried cleaning the screen, but it won't come off. It's almost like there's ripples in the glass (the effect only, when you touch it it's all the same texture and level). I guess whatever is behind the screen was coated unevenly in that area.

You can never see it though, unless you're at a place where there are solid colors and the camera is panning. On the xbox menu, I can see it when I scroll to the boxes on the right. If I focus on one of the boxes (or tiles or whatever) I can see it getting darker and lighter with the bands.

I don't mind it though.

Quick question for owners of the P50GT25. Does this set produce a lot of heat or have the newer plasmas become much more efficient? I have an old 50" Panny 7UY I've had since 2005 and it's like a space heater with regards to heat output. I'm looking to upgrade to the GT25 or GT30 and I just wanted to know if it will be much better in this area than say an LCD or LED TV. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i tested 5 diferent Tvs, 50gt25, 50g25, 55st30, 55gt30, 50vt25 at the store and they all had uneven bars, they easiest place to see them is by using the IR screen wipe bar, as it pans across the screen horizonitily you can see the uneven spots on the white bar. though I could also see on certain slides, particu;arily gray, white and green. So I guess they all have it. I am just very sensitive to it. Though the guy at the store saw them too after I pointed them out. I then went to Sears where they had a VT25 and it had it as well.

Should have checked out the Samsungs as well just to see if they had it too.

The GT25 produces some heat but nothing excessive in my experience. Runs cooler than my 08 Panny.

Thanks for the response. I'm figuring that the GT25 has to run much cooler than my 05 Panny 7UY that, as I mentioned above, feels like a small space heater at times.

Whatever you get I think youll be impressed with strides Plasma has made since 05. If you end up with a GT25 lots of good info in this thread.
