is there a way or a device to make to strip the sound from a hdmi to a optical?

because i need the video from the hdmi going to my computer monitor but i need the sound to go to a transmitter for my surround headset because im going to buy 3 24 inch monitors for my computer but i want 1 for my xbox.. and it either needs a optical output which i cant find or i need to strip the sound from a hdmi and still have the video going to the monitor but the sound to go to a transmitter which only accepts optical in, sorry if im not explaining so well :/

Is the video signal a normal (TV) resolution? It sounds like what you want is a AVR. The audio is embedded in the video on an HDMI cable, so you need a processor that can deal with both. But if the video signal is bigger than 1080 or needs unusual cabling (like a normal computer monitor cable) that may not work...

or maybe I'm just talking out of my butt.
