I like the high quality standards of NIN and really want to like the music. I have 2 DVD-A/CDs (Downward Spiral & With Teeth) of NIN's. However to me the (overdose of) added noise (as anti Steely Dan clean as possible) seems excessive and the constant screaming/screeching vocals grates on my nervers. Is the new Trent Reznor BD similar are is it different than NIN?

I would say that it is certainly different than the two albums that you listed. You could always download the free sampler to take a listen. The link is in the first post.

That's kind of a funny comparison, Steely Dan and NIN.
As of yet, I've never heard NIN in the produce section at Safeway.

Reread my post. It was a contrast (antonym) not a comparison.

I downloaded the 5 track sampler and it's just pure background (to movie dialog) music to me. I want to support BD profile 3 but I just don't see this a detected listening music. Oddly I prefer the "noisy" NIN style over this.

Profile 3.0 refers to hardware only.
The discs are authored just like any others.

Compare, contrast, it gave me a chuckle.

Whenever AiR finally releases The Fragile on Blu-ray 24/192 surround you may enjoy that one more than The Downward Spiral as there are more tracks there that aren't as abrasive as TDS but still rocking hard tunes. Some great instrumental tracks also that don't sound like film music.

Film music should not be dismissed as such. Some of the best music ever written was film music. Ever hear of Bernard Herrmann? Personally I love this style of music. The sampler makes me anticipate this even more. Trent is a genius because he excels at many different styles of music and I'm a fan of all of them.

Still waiting on mine. I think the blu-ray is released after redbook though.

I've received a response to my inquiry and apparently the Trent's management company has not shipped the Blu-rays to Audiolife yet.

I can't wait for this, I listen to the download and was quite happy with what I heard.

Pretty cool sounds scapes.

Listened to this disc twice today, must say the 5.1 mix is very involving, with terrific resolution and mix. Sound is fantastic. Now for Trent to get the Fragile out on Blu-Ray audio

Awesome. I'm waiting for all three formats to arrive at my house.

If we ever want more hi-rez from Trent - we gotta speak up. I need help from you guys...

Go to the NIN site and forum. I've been in a "conversation" with a few about high-rez formats, etc. But I feel like needle in a haystack. I need more voices supporting for more BD-Audio.

You know Pretty Hate Machine is being re-released this month completely sweetened up and remastered by Trent. No BD version, though.

Speak up here guys! Let Trent hear your voice!!

Takes two seconds to register on the forum.

Cheers to high-rez audio!

I went to the forum. Based on the posts surrounding yours, I concluded that the best way to let Trent know I want more HiRez MCH stuff is to buy a copy of The Social Network BD Audio, so I did that instead.

Posting in that forum seems pointless - not going to convert anyone, and I doubt Trent reads it too closely...

Listening to TSN BD now. The EP Sampler was a little underwhelming, and I wasn't sure how I was going to like the full-blown MCH BD.

It's great. Well done ambient/atmospheric music similar to NiN's Ghosts I-IV or anything by the band Bass Communion (Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree side project). Maybe more piano/melody than a typical Bass Communion album.

Lots of ultra-low freq stuff too, which didn't translate well into the EP download. Gives the subwoofers a real work out.

Highly recommended if you are into ambient/atmospheric noise/soundscapes. If you are expecting Downward Spiral Pt II you will be disappointed.
