Kreuk is much cuter.

There is that... it's just that usually when someone says "I want to go on to other things" they have some "other things" lined up.

The season premiere of Smallville is like True Blood (without the nudity)

Let's recap real quick where Season 9 left Smallville viewers. This episode picks up exactly where the finale left off — Clark has just exiled the Kandorians to another dimension using the Book of Rao. Clark avoids being whisked away after he stabs himself with Zod's blue Kryptonite dagger. Zod is hoisted by his own petard into the Kryptonian Party Dimension, and Clark plummets to Earth messiah-style. Meanwhile, Lois has discovered that Clark is the Blur (by means of surreptitious kiss in the shadows), and Ollie is captured by mysterious assailants en route to stop Zod. Tess dies, but a mysterious knitting woman absconds with her body.

Lots more stuff 99% spoiler free.

Just can't get rid of her, can we.

This is going off on a tangent but I gotta be honest, I've always found that to be lame. Why is his greatest enemy some random ("evil") human? When you have the likes of Braniac, Doomsday and Darkseid around? I guess it probably has to do with the time line of the comics (which I've never read...just seen the movies/cartoons), but Luthor has always seemed like a weak villain to me. Ooh look at me with my money and my science experiments. Yeah, call me when you're a god and you can disintegrate people with your eyes.

Anyhoo, speaking of Lana, is super-Lana going to make an appearance? Seems like she would if dude has to take on Darkseid.

I haven't re-watched the whole season yet... but if memory serves, Tess didn't die. She was just badly injured... and then she was taken.

The brute force powerful villains are usually less intelligent or have some other major flaw.

Brainiac is smart, but essentially naive because he lacks the ability to consider emotion and other human nuances, so this usually trips him up.

Doomsday is basically just brute force... so you can outwit him pretty easily if you can survive the pounding long enough to come up with a plan.

Darkseid, though, I agree. He has a lot of super-power AND he is supposed to be intelligent. It seems like arrogance is usually his downfall as it leads him to underestimate his opponents.

Lex makes a good villain because he is smart and he knows his own limitations... so what he can't do himself, he uses his brains and money to find others to do for him... and then Lex swoops in to pick up the pieces after the battle.

I remember one Darkseid story line while I collected Superman comics. He's got those Omega Rays that can shoot from his eyes and obliterate everything. Should be fun!

I must have been completely distracted because I don't remember any knitting woman, in the finale or premiere. Gah!

Did anyone else notice the details of the suit? It is the same from the latest movie.

If not the same, it is very similar. I think it is meant to evoke the look of Superman Returns... but it might be a new prop just made for Smallville.

It looked exactly the same to me, although cinema lighting is more... Subdued? Maybe my tv settings are too bright...

yes the producers confirmed they were using the same suit from the movie "Superman Returns" at the Smallville comic con panel back in July.

The little kid version of Lex made it out of the lab so if worse comes to worse he could grow to be the " new " Lex, since the ugly bald guy seems to have died.

just like they fixed things with jimmy dying by revealing his full name started with Henry and he had kid cousin with the right name...

In the comics, the original Lex died and his "son" (with firey red, long hair) took over the empire, but it turned out to be a clone. Then somehow the original Lex returned....can't remember how that happened though.

Point is, they could be following along similar lines...they just let us know up front that the kid is a clone.

I'm wondering how well they'll pull off the Darkseid storyline in this last season. I was rather disappointed in the treatment Doomsday got, as he moved like Godzilla during Chloe's wedding to Jimmy when he showed up at the barn. According to Wiki in DC Comics, Darkseid is to move at speeds which startled even Superman.

With his ultimate foe (not counting Lex) in this last season, who could Kal-El face in the next movie?
I for one miss Lex, a little bit for the character he portrays, but mainly for his acting ability. I also miss Lionel Luthor for the the exact same reason. With Chloe now gone, there are no more really great actors on the show. Now we're left with a few that are OK or mediocre, and some that are terrible. I hope the villains this season can actually act. And I hope that the villains don't speak in pop culture references every other sentence.

I'm glad that this is the final season of Smallville. I'm tired of being teased with Clark finally putting on the suit and permanently being able to fly. When the fortress snatched the suit away from Clark and scolded him for taking pride in his work, I laughed out loud at the ridiculousness of the scene. I mean, how dare Clark be proud of his accomplishments as the Blur. He should just save people as an emotionless robot. Jor-El knows best. So Clark should just let Jor-El do all the thinking for him.

I wish Clark would stop seeking validation from the flawed computer simulation of his dead biological father, I mean, over used plot device, I mean, Jor-El. He had validation from his adoptive father, Jonathan, who he had a real relationship with. Now move on Clark. Go back to the fortress and smash open the crystal containing your suit, and put it on already. But Clark's not going to do that. The writers are going to make him wait until the last 5 seconds of the final episode of Smallville to put it on.

While I miss Lex in Smallville, I'm sick of Lex in all the Superman Movies. I'd love to see Darkseid or Brainiac as the main villain, and not Lex, in the next movie. I would be nice to see Superman fight a villain who doesn't have to constantly rely on Kryptonite to defeat Superman. A villain who is equal too or more powerful than Superman would be nice to see. Maybe Superman would have to do some training to defeat such a villain. He could lift some mountains to increase his muscle mass. Then he could go visit our Solar System's asteroid belt, and practice dodging asteroids, while moving at top speed to increase his reflexes. Without someone stronger than him, the movie version of Superman, can just rest on his laurels and not worry about becoming a better fighter.

Lex in the movie versions is a total buffoon. Are they going for a total reboot of the movie franchise like Bond and Batman did?
I'd really hate to see another reboot. Batman turned out well, I'm dreading the new Spiderman (theres nothing wrong with the last three movies), and Superman Returns was practically a reboot anyways. Anytime you replace known actors with new faces in old roles feels like a reboot to me. Let's get Clark in the suit NOW, train all season, and let Welling, Rosenbaum, and their departed fathers give us all a masters class in acting/action in a movie of their own like we saw in The Dark Knight. We need to pass this thread on to the producers - I don't think their combing thru AVSFORUMS for fan reactions to their season premiere.

Too late for that...
At least when or if Welling ever dons the suit, he won't need a bunch of obvious padding like the movie ones did.

Still waiting for that Hulk/Supes "crossover"....it'll probably be a long time before that happens.

Just got done watching the 2nd episode. Wow, how freaking ANNOYING was that reporter!?!? I was wishing she would die in the very beginning so my ears wouldn't bleed.

Also, pretty cool scheme that Chloe pulled off. I know she is not scheduled much this season but well see what happens.

At then end, I thought "this is it, Clark is going to fly." But no, once again I was let down. FLY ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very annoying girl. Cat Grant was, however, quite the hottie to Dean Cain's Clark and Teri Hatcher's Lois back in the 90s... Just wish THIS Cat Grant was gonna be more like Tracy Scoggins

than the one we got tonight.

+1. Looks like we are inching very slowly toward THAT moment. All the heroes are beginning to see they've got something bigger for their destinies. The suit has been sighted! And for a moment I thought for sure, Clark was dropping that plane ticket and about to leap up. YAH RIGHT! WHAT WAS I THINKING?

So as for Darkseid, if shadowy guy in barn (in the preview) is how they are treating it....BOO! They pulled the Doomsday can be human bit....fine I let that go. But don't do it again with Darkseid.

Movies tangent: Christopher Nolan and his brother Jonathan are helping reboot the Superman franchise. We can all think of "Superman Returns" like "The Incredible Hulk". It was not a reboot, it was not really a sequel. It was a stand-alone story. I think the loud and clear sentiment is WE ARE TIRED OF LEX. But I don't know....Superman just doesn't do well as a movie. It does well as a series. But I guess with the right writers they can make it work. Lex would have to be in the story at some point in the reboot though. Braniac is an excellent villain and could tie in with Lex for the first movie. Even though it would be really early in the storyline, Doomsday could even work for the 2nd with a huge death "cliffhanger". Then he comes back in the third and maybe takes on the Cyborg or Darkseid. Those are all the token villains.

The problem has always been they make up their own thing for the movies; they haven't followed the comics like the other franchises. With Chris Nolan in the project, I feel pretty confident we'll finally get something worth seeing in the Superman universe.

So if you really want to look forward though, how about a Justice League movie to counter The Avengers? YAH RIGHT!!!! They'll never get [new Superman actor (not Routh, whoever is going to be in the reboot)], Christian Bale for Batman, Ryan Reynolds for Green Lantern, the Flash (in development), Wonder Woman (maybe??? heard rumors), etc together.

you lost me at "doesn't do well as a movie"...

go watch superman 1 & 2... if you don't like those... you prob shouldn't be in here
post #87 of 594
I own Superman 1 and 2 for nostalgia, tyvm. Yet, truly they don't work for me. First of all, all he did was fly in the first one because that is what they set out to prove they could do with their movie magic. They botched a lot of his origin (won't go into specifics for brevity). And it ended completely ridiculously that spinning the earth backwards could reverse time. All that would do is make the sun rise in the west. But I will credit it to say, up until that point, it is entirely watchable and enjoyable.

Don't even get me started on #2. Super villains...way cool. Love 'em. But....What in the hell is that saran wrap shield thing? Oh he can teleport too! AMAZING, so why bother flying! But wait there's more! He can kiss someone into amnesia!!!!!!

Aaaaaaaand speaking of other super heroes, this just in: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=70321

You know whats funny I watched that scene with the person on the radio riping on superheroes and calling them vigilantes, and I thought that if superheroes were real that fox news and the rest of the right wing would have a problem with it lol. I also thought for just a second that at the very end he would fly but no guess they are saving that for sweeps or something.

Rent the newer "Richard Donner" cut of Superman II that doesn't have that stuff in it, instead it has other scenes that were originally shot by Donner and not included in the theatrical version.
