How about an official 3-D BD designation?

I am tired of having to guess if a 3-D Blu-Ray is shutter glass or anaglyph; isn't it about time for an official 3-D shutter glass BD designation (not logo)?

The new 3D format doesn't know if you're using shutter glasses or polarized glasses or an auto-stereoscopic display or whatever. It's not only for shutter glasses TVs.

From what I could tell, those with the Blu-Ray 3D logo are the ones for 3D tv's, everything that came before was anaglyph.

But what if the description is in text, without a logo?

Fine; now what shall the official name for the new format be?

I shall call it BD3D.

I thought 3D Blu Ray not Blu Ray 3D is the official name?

I abbreviate it 3DBD but I when I write the complete name I use the correct Blu-ray 3D name.

Then its not a 3D Blu-ray. What discs don't have the logo but are in stereoscopic 3D?

E.g.: how do you search in Google or on Amazon, etc. so as to get non-anaglyph BDs?

You have to wait for the cover art to be posted and the 3D BD logo has to be on the package

This site also helps:

The trademarks are for "Blu-ray 3D" and two logos depicting same (one with the 3D underneath and one with it to the right). Serial numbers for the logos are 77893175 and 77893178 if you wish to confirm.

The two versions of the official Trademarked logo from the Blu-ray Disc Association use the name "Blu-ray 3D" - see here for the logos:

That's all fine and good; but wouldn't it be nice to be able to search Google, eBay,Amazon, etc. for BD 3D and not get loaded with anaglyphs?

The problem is, the older Anaglyph BDs are 3D. Just not stereoscopic 3D.

You can monitor the 3D BD new release thread as I do keep it up to date as best as possible.

They are stereoscopic, by using anaglyph glasses you get a stereoscopic 3D view of the video.

Wouldn't it be nice if, for example, the official designation were "3DBD", then we could search for, or list, "3DBD", and avoid the anaglyph issue entirely.

In a perfect world . . .

I don't understand the problem. Amazon.com appears to have all the current titles tagged as [Blu-ray 3D]. Since results are sorted by relevance, they're pushed to the top of a search. And you can Google for "Blu-ray 3D" including quotes. What am I missing?

That said, I already ranted about the lack of any official abbreviation in another post so I do agree there.

Googling for "Blu-ray 3D" can also be misleading. This search brought up CWACOM and Monster House, but also included a version of Polar Express that contains four 3D glasses. UhOH.

Bestbuy has a Blu Ray 3D selection in the, NARROW YOUR RESULTS BY:, field. Of course there is only 3 movies listed there at the moment.
