Replaced t-con board but still have lines?

Hi! I was sent here by tk_saturn at GBAtemp.net, he suggested you guys would be able to help me...

I have a Sony KDL-40EX500 that somebody gave to me because they thought it was unfixable. It had vertical lines on the left half of the screen. I thought it was the t-con because when I unplugged the ribbon cable for that side of the screen it was pure black, and when I plugged it back in the lines would return.

So I spent $40 on ebay and got a new board... and the problem's still there! Is it another bad T-Con? Is it a cable somewhere? Or is it the connector between the T-Con and LCD?

Help please! I think it's the connection between the LCD and T-con, but I can't find any information on it, like what it's called or if it can be replaced...

A picture would be very helpful. When ever you replace a component and you have the exact same symptom, you have to ask yourself what are the odds that the replacement part would have the same exact symptom of the original? The answer is almost zero. Please try to attach a picture of your vertical line problem.

Ive seen people remove the front bezel and then turn the TV on and press on the connector on the LCD panel its self... If it fixed the problem then its the connector on the panel its self... Dont know if thats fixable other than smashing something between the connector and the bezel its self.

And thats kinda odd that an EX is out of warranty already since they havent even been on the market passed a year...

That's what it looks like with both boards.

The seller of the replacement board said it sounds like the COF chip on the logic board, but his grammar was so bad I couldn't understand what to look for and where he wanted me to look...

He also wrote his last email in all caps, so I wonder if I came across as a n00b and made him angry. I'm IT certified for computers, not LCD TVs, lol

@chevy: Warranty is void since it's been open. That and since I have it since the original owner broke it and gave it to me, I don't think I'd have been able to use it anyway

You have either a bad ribbon connection to your driver board on the panel, or a bad driver board its self

Are you not in NA because that looks like an older V Series Sony...

Hi All,

I found this thread and was hoping to get some info on my own issue. Similar failure in appearance, colored vertical lines along about a 10 inch strip on right.

Out of warranty Mitsubishi LT-40133. Ordered and replaced Tcon board LJ94-01981A.

Fixed problem - until about 45 minutes in, then lines reappear. Turn off TV, Turn on later and works until about 45 minutes in.

Any ideas on what else might be the problem? Is it ever the connecting cables? are they replaceable?

Thanks in advance
Sandy

Yep, Heat is the main suspect. I'm just wondering if there is something
I can add safely to try and help protect it or if the cables can go bad and
lose their ability to cope with the heat.

Both of the sets listed above (Sony and Mitsubishi) have defective LCD Panels.
Fairly common with both manufacturers.
