great polk deal?

Newegg currently has has many Polk speakers around 1/3 of the normal price. I have been wanting to upgrade from my Logitech Z-5500 system which is predominately used for movies. I have been quite happy with it but am looking for a "bigger" sound. I am no audiophile but prefer DTS over DD when my friends can tell no difference. I currently have my PC, DVD and cable box connected and will be adding bluray.

Here's the set up i was thinking of:
CS20 center x1
PSW10 sub x1
Monitor40 Series II bookshelf x3pairs

adding a $300-400 receiver puts this system in the range of the Onkyo HT-S9300THX or HT-S9100THX i was considering.

Is it a good time to jump on this deal? Please throw any thoughts, opinions or ideas at me and thanks in advance for your help!

---this seemed like the best sub-forum to put this in...if not sorry

Try and compare the sound of the Polks and the equivalent Infinity Primus P152 or P162 speakers and decide what you like better. Also look for a better sub. I'd check with Hsu Research and Elemental Designs but keep in mind that eD usually builds to order and you could spend a few weeks waiting for delivery so always call and get an ETA before ordering.

I recently went with a HSU VTF-2 and it made an immediate difference in my room. I recommend not going cheap with the sub.

thanks for the sub ideas but they are a bit out of mu price range....looking to spend around $1000 for the system

So how much can you spend on a sub, $200 or so? I'm not going to bother figuring out your totals, that's your job.

If you have $200 left look at the BIC F12 subwoofer. Its actually in stock right now with free shipping.

Personally I would rather spend my money on Monitor 60's for the front and then Monitor 30's for the surrounds and then add a Bic f12 subwoofer

Spend a little less on the receiver and buy more sub or speakers - or both. The Denon 589 is available from DakMart for under $200. It isn't anything fancy but it'll work.

I have just completed my setup.

Samsung PN63C8000
Monitor 60 Series II fronts
Monitor CS2 Series II center
Proficient C660 surrounds (in-wall)
Bic America F12 sub
Denon AVR-791

I have also built a custom Media console to fit the setup. I liked some of the BDI stands but had trouble finding something long/tall enough for the wall and tv. I will try to post pictures soon. So far everything sounds/looks amazing!

The Denon AVR-589 have and accept HDMI audio? I think a refurbished AVR-590 would be a better choice

Absolutely it would - no argument there - but the 589 is a great choice for budget systems. It's far from perfect but the under $200 allows budget minded buyers to spend a little more on speakers - which we all know will make more impact than spending another $100+ on an AVR. The 589 does not play hdmi audio.

I would get the Denon 1610/590 as a minimum.

You'll want the HDMI audio and TrueHD, DTS-MA decoding from Blu Ray. Plus you'll be able to input any of your old devices and then output thru HDMI to the TV.

Has the OP ever posted a total budget? Or did I miss it?
