Bass traps

Roxul, Safe n' Sound - 3" thickness

I had a movie playing while I was installing these and a TV show (at different times during the day), and I was startled to quickly and easily hear the difference the traps were making in the sound of the room. When I was done for the night, I sat back and listened carefully, a noticeable shift in clarity was now present that I had not heard before.

Now I need to build frames, then stretch a fabric over the traps for the rear corners. The front are covered by the curtains.

Have you made the frames yet? What kind of fabric do you use to cover the frames? I am interested in learning how to work with fabric for my theatre (screen wall, walls, bass traps, acoustic treatments, etc), it is not an area I have any experience in.

I am done one of the Bass Traps, and already to go on the next. They take a day each, because I wait for the glue to dry.

I will post some photos tonight if possible, otherwise tomorrow. I bought a nice fabric that is sheer enough, without being too thin. I think it all worked out. If you want to see them when they are done, and look at my other photos of them, it would be cool with me if you wanted to come over and see for yourself.

I tried out a few pieces of 90 degree corner edging, and I liked the results. I will again stain them to match the columns and other accent wood in the room.

To remove the wrinkles in the fabric, I will place it in the dryer for a quick steam, so the wrinkles lift out and it is flat when I stretch it.

Looking good.
I would definately like to visit your theatre, it is about the same dimensions as I have to work with, I'll PM you.

Sprayed black so they don't show through the fabric.

What size(s) of wood are you using for the outside frame, and the internal supports?
How big are the pannels?

51" by 33 3/4"

I used 1x4, and the supports were made from some scrap wood that was already ripped, on a table saw,to a unspecified size (basically left overs from another project).

Some more accoustic treatments...

These panels need material stretched over them, I plan to do it this weekend!

This frame covers a window, which I built shutters, to block light from entering. There is an exact mirror copy on the opposite wall, to create symmetry. The panels were not specifically created to address any accoustic issues, as much as it was designed to block the shutters on the window.

With the panels, corner traps, and new pads in the room, things are sounding better than ever. Although I have noted that volume can go louder than before and still sound great. I am so thirsty for more power. Under strong consideration now is the 8 channel, Marantz mm8003.

One panel left to build for the front of the room, behind the Center channel. It will be approx 8ft long and 2ft in height by 3 1/2inches thick.

I will then cover it in the same fabric as the front top panels, and I will complete the rear corner Bass traps with that material as well.
