I guess it was a bit too much for the cell processors to handle.

Didn't the PS3 have an issue with DTS-MA?

Yeah but you can get the HD audio if you select PCM... What's the difference? Just curious

just key in pcm vs bitstreaming.. you will get tons of opinions...

i prefer bitstreaming myself but others will tell me i am retarded and dont know what i am talking about...

honestly.. to me bitstream sounds clearer and more seperated (more info per channel, clarity ??) , louder maybe..?? i really cant pinpoint exactly why i like it but all of my devices bitstream...

i even sold my old ps3 and got the new slim one because of it...

others will give a more complete answer as to why bitstreaming is better but i cant do any better than what i have listed already...

the journey is yours to have!!!

Im using a PS3 slim to Denon 790 1.3 AVR It does NOT pass through. I tried with Cloudy and I do not get DTS-HD. All I get is a black screen and regular dts audio not the Dts-Hd track that is standard. This might be because I dont have a 1.4 AVR.

you surely shouldnt be required to have a 1.4avr to get dts hd ma to pass through it...

if so that is pretty lame... i dont have my gear hooked up right now.. so i cant test it..

i noticed this as well. no hd audio with bitstream setting on the PS3. guess i will have to go back to LPCM.

You do not get lossless audio with LPCM setting either. This kinda sucks, I get lossless audio with the 2D version

Doesn't 3D require a supporting 3D AVR anyway? I don't have 3D yet, and probably won't get it until reasonably affordable 3D FPs street, but the PS3's lack of dual HDMI output seems to make it's lack of lossless audio support a non-issue unless you plan to upgrade your AVR yet again, just for 3D. Seems more cost efficient to buy a stand alone BD3D player with dual HDMI output. This is one PS3 update I may skip, if I can.

Did you go thru the display setup before tryin Cloudy? My receiver is super low end and it worked for me.

At first it didnt work for me but here's what i did with 1.3 and 1.4a cables on an old Sony STR-DG 720 and it worked. Connect the PS3 directly to the TV(LN46C750) go thru the display setup(use automatic) to turn on 3D options (720 3D,1080 3D) then go thru the audio setup (use manual) check the boxes that apply to your receiver. Now unplug the HDMI from the TV and run it thru the receiver as you would in your nomal setup. The PS3 settings wont change unless you rerun the display setup again. I used an Optical cord for the audio seeing that the PS3 wont do HD audio in 3D mode anyway and i got everything working great. Oh i have a 40GB fatty

I have a HDMI 1.3a 4x2 matrix from monoprice, so I will be able to split the signal from my PS3 and output to both the future 3D HDTV and to my non-3D AVR. Will my setup work for 3D games from PS3 (original 60GB) and 3D Blu-rays? If I will not get lossless PCM audio with 3D Blu-rays, will I still get lossless PCM audio with PS3 games (GT5 coming out 11/2)?

With my setup, I am hoping that I do not have to upgrade my AVR and buy a stand-alone 3D Blu-ray player; I would just upgrade the HDTV to 3D.
