Current iOS App (iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad) controlled receivers?

UPDATE: 1/16/2011

http://oremote.oriole.net/Welcome.html

Onkyo and Integra Receivers have there own 3rd Party App!

App Store link

Great news for all those iOS users!

**************************************

Okay there are Remote control apps for iOS devices, cool.

What equipment manufacturers are supporting this?

What I am seeing now is specific iOS Apps for receivers.

Yamaha RX-A1000/2000/3000's app

This would be greater integration with Airtunes and an iOS Devices.

Otherwise, one would get the IR remote apps and hardware IR devices.

But wait there's more I just discovered Redeye (Review) this solves the hardware "parasites" connected to the iOS device.

I'm about 1/3 of the way of developing an application for the Onkyo receivers.

I have all of the net-related stuff working, and all of the major functions. I don't know when it will be finished, but likey will be in a couple of weeks.

Did Onkyo provide you with a Software Development kit, or is it pretty straight forward?

Great! Please keep us up to date, and let us know when it is released. Your third party app could be the first, as Onkyo/Integra seems to be behind the curve in developing/licensing an official iOS app.

If I wanted to rush it, I could release a clone of the Yamaha app, it really does not do all that much.

I'm able to add one "feature" a day. Tonight I just got the UP-A1 interface working with it.

I can say I do know why Onkyo doesn't make an app, this thing has crappy network support to say the least.

The UP-A1 is part of their ISCP spec, and it does not even follow their protocol directly, making remote control of it a real PITA.

But, here's some screens.

The leftmost is the DLNA/Internet Radio, the right iPod support over the universal dock, and the middle is the audio settings I just started working on.

I know at least two more screens will be there: the tuner AM/FM screen and the zone control screen. The first is built up, I just need wire in the correct commands. The HD-Radio support is already in the universal port screen - just needs a bit more work.

Will your app also grab any source info (e.g. codec, channel configuration, bit rate, etc.) and display it?

Looks pretty cool.

Is that an iPad app? Which Onkyo model are you working with? Are you planning net and dock control?

Only if the AVR can supply it. I just finished with the response handling code from the AVR, every command/response on the 2009 spreadsheet will be supported. The only issue is that most AVRs only support subsets of those commands. Anyhow, here's more screenshots. I needed a thread to discuss my application & its progress and this is more on-topic than the 807 thread I usually hang out in.

New Pioneer and Sony receivers have iphone apps (I think that's what this thread is asking, or is it only asking about homebrew apps?).

I am asking about what is out there, home-brew or not.

on a side note: I think these precedents or features set forth in todays receivers, crushes most mid-high to range Hi Fi gear.. the NADs, Musica Halls, Naims to the Brystons and the McIntosh.. Even companies like Wadia bet the farm on iPhone/iPod support.

I am not an Apple user (iPad or iPod etc), so will your offering be targeted at these devices only?

Also, I see in the screen shot the 12v triggers were listed, wer these for the Onkyo and can you trigger them directly from the iPad without have the zone's active?

Thanks

The commands were listed and as far as I can tell, if you issue the command - it will do what you ask. I have a 180 and not an 807, so I have no 12V triggers to test...

While developing this, I have noticed that you can issue commands to have the receiver do something like get the iPod playing status & title while listening to Pandora.

If I had a iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad I would test the 12v triggers for you, maybe I can 'borrow' my daughters to get this going...

So the command for the 12v trigger is it a unique commend onto itself, why I ask is if I could send it via the ip software I am currently playing with (NR Control), I could also try this out for you on my NR3007

I got to that today. Take a look: one is an XBOX 360 playing over HDMI and the other is a Wii over component scaled up to 1080p

Really? I never submitted the app to Apple nor have I given out any betas yet.

Whatever you downloaded, this isn't it. If you are downloading from this forum, you are just grabbing screenshots.

Emphasis added.

Yeah that would be something--McIntosh gear with Apple apps, ha. I guess there would have to come a day where McIntosh met Macintosh, lol. Though of course iOS is not exactly Mac, it's close enough.

Zone control is now being implemented. Full control of Zones 2,3, and 4.

I predict a beta will be available in about a week. The reason mainly is a three day business trip.

If anyone is interested in a beta version to test, they should have the following:

1. Onkyo/Integra receiver that is network enabled. Generally, an Onkyo 806 or higher.

2. Peripherals & other services are a plus. I have no way to test XM/Sirius/HD radio or the "other" iPod dock. I am also interested in the Onkyo RI-enabled DVD or BD player, but I don't know who would have one of those.

3. Multi-zone setups

4. Apple iPad. Sorry, no iPhone version right now. There is just too much to put on an iPhone screen. I will have a more condensed version for the iPhone/iPod touch in 2-3 weeks.

Beta builds do not require a jailbroken device. I will send a signed app that will install via iTunes and run until December of this year. As I build new versions, new betas will be sent to install and test.

It should work. No, you don't need the dock, it can control an iPod/iPhone's playback if the iPod/iPhone is in the dock though.

Looks neat, I'm interesting in testing it. I've sent you a pm.
