I thought the ATV was limited to DD and didn't support DD+

Unfortunately from AustinJerry above it doesn't sound like DTV will support HBO go on the ATV in the near future sound I won't have a chance to try.

I'm with Comcast, so I'm pretty sure it's only 720p or 1080i. My point was that is definitely not 1080 p

HBO Go, Watch ESPN, Sky News (among others) went live yesterday. HBO Go is in DD+ according to my Anthem display and of course AppleTV is outputting it as 1080P. Watching the Dark Knight Rises as a test right now and it looks and sounds great (of course it's not like the Bluray with proper aspect ratio changes, but to catch up on HBO series and the occasional movie it will be great.

I also have 2 Roku boxes and I prefer the Apple interface over Roku. I hope Apple has more surprises in store for us this year!

One more nice side benefit of the addition of Watch ESPN on Apple TV. For those of us with expensive plasma displays, watching ESPN without the scrolling news feed along the bottom is a true blessing. Overall quality is not quite up to Directv standards, but it's pretty close and my plasma thanks me!

I have it also. But my Panasonic plasma is set to HD2 (1:1 pixel mapping) Still hate that scroll but not enough to crop the image on my expensive plasma.

One other good thing about hbogo is that it has more content than hbo on demand.

Maybe I spoke too soon! I was watching Soccer today with no ticker, then checked the regular channel and it wasn't there. Sorry folks!

I thought HBO Go is now available for Directv users on Apple TV. HBOgo.com/activate

Just updated my Apple TV and one the new apps in the Sky TV, dug in and would you believe there is a live feed. It looks good and it's nice to have another source of international news. Now if Apple could get an app for ESPN 3 going.

I was wrong, when you open the Watch ESPN app there are four channels within it. ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN 3, and ESPN U. I'm impressed. smile.gif

Woah! That is news! I logged in with a "borrowed" account but would feel much better logging in with my Directv login. Checking it out now!

UPDATE: Works! One less ounce of "guilt" in my life smile.gif

How does mirroring work? What is the best keyboard for apple tv
post #2116 of 3001
Double press the home button. Slide across until you see the mirroring button (triangle pointing up) and select it. I think you have to be in wifi on your iPhone/iPad. You will then see on your tv whatever you see on your idevice. I watched a couple of seasons of curb your enthusiasm that way. Works quite well. Not sure about the keyboard.

Thanks for this information!!! I've been trying to get Airplay to work for months and not even Apple was able to help and it was so simple. I'm going to have to copy this information in case I forget how. smile.gif

Just wanted to say that I have been using make mkv handbrake and identify (metadata) for a couple days now to put my daughters disney movies on iTunes to play through atv3 and couldn't be more happy with how easy it is. Can't believe I didn't start doing this way sooner. No more running up and down stairs to track down a movie. Plus the atv is tied into my WHA as an added bonus.

That is strange - I have set up HBOGO on my ATV and I only get DD (not DD+) - as before this is kind of what I expected as I didn't think the ATV supported DD+

I would say the picture quality is OK - maybe equivalent to Amazon streaming but frankly not as good as Netflix HD streaming. It seems to be using about the bandwidth through my router as Amazon and less than Netflix....

I have a hearing impairment and rely on Closed Captioning. I’ve been able to watch HBOGO on my ipad with CC, but when trying to stream through Roku, it does not offer closed caption.

Wondering if I were to purchase a ATV, would airplay transfer what I’m seeing on my ipad including CC? Has anyone try or using this?

iPads have a mirroring option that allows whatever you see on your iPad to be seen on your big screen. I'm not home to verify the closed captioning.

The answer is Yes! I don't use the feature but I thought I'd go in and test it. If a program has CC available, you just need to enable Closed Captioning in the Audio Video menu of the ATV and it will display the text. This works for Airplay, and for the native HBO Go app that is now available on the ATV itself. Personally, I would just use the HBO Go app on ATV for the best quality.

Thanks Guys..

Not sure why it will not work with the Roku (perhaps it is due to an older version "2").

Just bought one of these units. Wow! Streaming Netflix and HBO GO is awesome. The PQ is so much better than using my Sony Blu-ray player or PS3. Very surprised with this purchase. Blu-ray is still king, but this thing is great.
