Is there a post on how to properly to setup my ATV 3? Another problem I noticed last night was when playing Words with Friends HD on my Ipad 3 it would start my ATV for the video commercials after each play (I don't pay the $4.99 for Ad free WWF). Also, the only photo showing up in photostream on ATV is my wallpaper photo from my Iphone. I have enabled sharing using apple ID on my two laptops and checked the photos box. Also have Icloud enabled on Ipad and Iphone.

I'm a novice at this and have tried to research thru google and searching this thread but it is confusing to me.

For some reason I cant seem to get Netflix to work on the Apple TV in my main room. It says to check back later although Netflix works fine in my gym. What should I check?

First a couple of questions, is your ATV hooked with an ethernet cable or are you using wi-fi.
Can you stream any of the free podcasts in the Apple store, the video ones are a good test. What are you streaming Netfix with in your gym. And lastly, what is saying to check back later.
If you can answer these questions then we'll have a better idea of what you should check.

Thanks,
The ATV is hooked up via Ethernet , everything else is working ( apps) and I have a separate Apple TV in the gym.

Try swapping the ATVs. Then you'll know if the problem is the box or the location.

I seem to remember reading that pulling the power plug on the Apple TV for 30 seconds or more and rebooting the router can cure this problem.
Thanks. I'll try that.

Apple today added several new apps to the Apple TV, including the previously reported Vevo music video channel. Other new additions include a dedicated app for The Weather Channel, an app for the Smithsonian Channel, as well as two Disney television apps: Disney Channel and Disney XD.

Vevo has issued a press release announcing its arrival on the Apple TV, noting that it brings access to the site's library of 75,000 music videos.
Apple TV users are sure to recognize the intuitive and efficient design. VEVO viewers are able to quickly browse videos by featured artists including all of the latest premieres. VEVO includes multiple modes of discovery – you can watch on-demand videos from any genre or simply select any video that piques your interest. If you have something particular in mind, perform a search and we will surface what you’re looking for right at your fingertips.
The Weather Channel app offers current conditions and forecasts for a variety of locations, as well as access to featured stories and Weather Channel shows.

The Smithsonian Channel offers on-demand access to streams of full episodes from the television channel, while the Disney Channel and Disney XD apps offer live and on-demand access with authentication through select television providers. Currently supported providers for the Disney apps include AT&T U-verse, Charter, Comcast, Cox, Midcontinent Communications, Optimum, and Verizon FiOS.

Thanks for the tip! Just checked to make sure the update was there, and authorized the Disney Channels. Weather will be used and I might get into the Smithsonian as well.

Anyone know if Vevo has a subscription charge?

Weird. Is this update only for the US?

As far as I can tell, this is not a recent update. I got the update a number of weeks ago (ver 5.3 - 6105).

So you had Vevo, Weather Channel, Disney, and Smithsonian Channel a number of weeks ago. Perhaps read back some.

Sorry, Gary, I am not following you. When I read the original post, I immediately checked my ATV, and the apps were already visible. I'm not an ATV expert, but I am under the impression that updates don't happen automatically. When I clicked on "Update software", I received the message saying my software was current. What am I missing?

Nothing. The update would have been automatic. One day you fire up ATV and there are the new icons. I had HBO Go, Watch ESPN, Sky News, Qello and more in the last update. Now I have Disney, Weather, and Smithsonian and Vevo in the latest update.

Thanks for clarifying. I was not aware that updates were automatic.

It's not a firmware update. Apple simple "turned" on the apps if you disconnect the ATV, the apps are gone.

For those that used Plexconnect like me, the update borked it:

Apple TV Update Breaks PlexConnect, But You Can Bring It Back

Related
Yesterday the Apple TV got an over-the-air update that broke the awesome PlexConnect app that brought Plex to unjailbroken Apple TVs. If you've already updated, there's a way to fix it.P

The Apple TV update was actually pretty solid, bringing apps for Vevo, the Weather Channel, Disney, and the Smithsonian Channel. Unfortunately, it broke the PlexConnect hack that let you install Plex using Apple's Trailers app. Fixing it takes a bit of work (and you'll need to be familiar with the Terminal), but it isn't anything too hard—all you need is a microUSB cable and a Mac with Apple Configurator installed. Check out the link below for the full instructions.

Wait...You said there was no "update" and that they just turned on some Apps. Seems to me that some kind of update occured if it borked your Plexconnect. Bummer, but glad there is an easy fix.

i did say that because there was no firmware update. all apple did was "push" new apps to your apple tv and changed the trailers app to SSL which broke plexconnect. think of these apps as webapps that your appletv displays, they are not natively installed on apple tv. big difference.

In order to do the fix, you have to do it with a Mac computer. So, if you don't have one like me, then you out of luck.

I don't understand. PlexConnect has been working fine for me even with the added channels. The firmware update .3 has been out for a while. What isn't working?

ESPNews and ESPN Deportes are now streaming on Apple TV

http://www.theverge.com/2013/8/28/4669342/espnews-espn-deportes-on-apple-tv-watchespn-app
Quote:
Apple TV owners can now stream ESPNews and ESPN Deportes. The pair of channels can be found inside of the WatchESPN app which arrived on Apple TV in June. Previously, WatchESPN on Apple's set-top box could be used to watch ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN 3, and ESPNU. ESPNews is the sports media conglomerate's 24-hour news channel and ESPN Deportes is its Spanish-language station. The update follows the addition of new apps for Vevo, Disney, and The Weather Channel yesterday. Additionally, both ESPNews and ESPN Deportes can also be seen in the WatchESPN apps on iOS and Android, which were also updated on Wednesday.
