Popular AVS Brand Emotiva Launches A/V Processor/Receiver with Control4 Inside

Emotiva, a popular Internet-direct brand of high-performance audio gear, is launching a new division called Emotiva Pro. The company will demo its first line of products this week at CEDIA Exo.

The most notable introduction will be the PMC-1, an HDMI 1.4 processor/7.1 receiver with built-in Control4 home automation.

We've developed a loyal, pretty passionate following that are audiophiles, says founder and CEO Dan Laufman. We were pretty content to stay in that market, but we got more and more requests from CIs [custom installers]. They said, Hey, we really want to carry your brand.' We kept turning them away.

Laufman eventually went to work on the custom channel, hiring former integrator Fred Hartman to head up the new Emotiva Professional Services group.

Both Laufman and Hartman are long-time fans of Control4. We saw the synergy possible behind high-end home theater and Control4 and merging those two worlds together, Hartman recalls.

The PMC-1 is a 7.1-channel audio/video processor with seven HDMI inputs. Inside the component is a full HC200 Control4 processor that offers the same I/Os as the HC200, minus the component video, says Laufman.

It is expected to retail for $2,999

Another processor/receiver, two amps (including a 7x350) and a line of loudspeakers also will debut under the Emotiva Pro brand.,

Spectacular!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully it's not based on their UMC-1 pre/pro. Wouldn't that be adding insult to injury - $3k and buggy! Good luck to all...

Wow, it looks like the boutique crowd is in for some awesome new and beautiful gear at a uniquely sane price too!

Looks very nice, indeed ! Wish it were a 9.2 multichannel processor; however, that may fly in the face of 7.1 multichannel purists (are there any such animals as multichannel purists?). Nice to see that it is an HDMI 1.4 version, though.

Really like the EMOTIVA brand. My brother has some their prior stereo equipment and seems to be very pleased (although it's in storage right now). EMOTIVA has made great strides in product development as of late, and they still seem to be sticking to their high-quality/bang-for-your-buck notoriety. Don't have any of their equipment myself (as of yet), but they would be on the top of my list for outfitting an amplifier bank of a primo home theater at bargain costs. Would really like to see this new line of theirs with some one- or 2/3-channel high-class amps; that would be awesome !!! Appearance -- very stylish, very classy. And I'm sure the quality is very high (or improved), as has always seemed to be their trend in the past. Way to go, EMOTIVA !!!

(first post in prolly as much as two years; maybe it was the two drinks I had before retiring tonight; or maybe, just a new wave of personal obsessiveness; either way, not good.)

The PMC-1 is not built on existing Emotiva products, Laufman says. The Emotiva Pro group is building products from the ground up for the CI channel.

Not going to sell many of those units if they don't get things together in the pre-amp arena....
I do have to say that they are very very nice looking....

No doubt anyone looking to spend 2-4K on an avr, prepro or amp would have to look hard at this set.If it sounds like their other products it will be a best buy in the price range.

No Elmo, there is doubt.

This unit certainly looks the part.....I know many are skeptical about it given Emotiva's track record with the UMC-1. However, let's reserve all speculation until the unit is actually released and evaluated by the usual suspects.
