You are right - $100 for the BS41 bookshelf. This looks like a system
for you.

Wow I didn't realize anyone else was selling the BS41, other than Pioneer.

Good find, and great price.

JR's price is awesome - enough so that I'm buying four more of them. They do charge shipping but even so the total for two is a lot less than I paid for them from Pioneer's website with free shipping.

I don't know what's going on with this - the only speaker of this Pioneer line that JR has available is the BS-41 but it will mean I'm now 7.2 system upstairs and have new and impressive speakers in stereo downstairs.

Maybe this is a result of BB deciding not to carry to SP-BS41-LR leaving an excess that went ou on a discount to other retailers?

They're good speakers at full price - twice as good at half price!

I've been impressed with the center so far... so just bought a pair of the BS41 from JR... price was too good not to give them a try.

If you read the thread its a lot of great info as well as giving the answer to that question

What's the difference between the BS 21 at BB and the BS 41 at J & R?

I just got back from BBuy-- they didn't have the FS51 hooked up, but the sales guy was "nice" enough to hook one of them up for me. It was really hard to tell how it sounded, given that it was strategically placed in line with much higher end components. I'm just getting started with this whole process. The sales rep said I wouldn't be happy with the Pioneers.

The Polk TSI300 sounded good, but they're twice as much. And don't get me started on the Klipsch Icons. All of the sudden, I'm rethinking my budget...
my guess would be these...
...as to why best buy doesn't carry the larger bookshelf.

BS21 has 4" woofer and 1" tweeter. BS41 has 5.25" woofer and 1" tweeter. BS41 is the bigger bookshelf speaker.

BS21 for $89 plus tax or BS41 for $99 plus shipping. I think the BS41 is the better deal.

Why not get the FS51 towers instead? With a best buy 10% off coupon, it'll run $190 after tax... and give some added bass (since you're not getting a sub)... instead of $250 for bookshelves + stands.

Where do i find this 10% off coupon? I just got back from BBuy and the FS51 didnt look so bad...looks kinda ugly in the online pics...i may buy these at BBuy then if i dislike them return them and buy the stand/BS41, if not keep them.

Simple solution... Don't listen to the sales rep.
Just by the Pioneer's take them home and try them with your own equipment. My wife and I thought they were easily better than the Polk (center channel comparison with music) and I didn't like the Klipsch sound (peaky horn tweeter to me isn't natural) really much at all enough to even consider them.

The Pioneer's sound better and better to me as time has gone on. I'm very selective and I have not regreted the purchase at all! And the fact that they're so cheap is even better.

If I had a receiver that could handle them I would've done that. Still looking to take the first step...not in a rush to buy these speakers b/c this looks like list price. The ones from J&R look like a markdown though, might pull the trigger on those for the rears.

It was really tricky, because he didn't hook up both speakers, so had the Pioneer paired with the larger Klipsch, which is a much more powerful speaker (power doesn't matter much to me, in a 1000 SF condo with neighbors below). They had the FM radio playing through the things too; until I got him to let me plug my iPod in everything sounded like crap.

BBuy sales guy was no help, which is precisely what I expect when I talk in the door, but it's amazing how they manage to come in below even the most minimum expectations.

I really hope I'm simply misunderstanding this, but are you saying that they had a Pioneer speaker on one channel and a Klipsch on the other as a stereo pair?! Please tell me that they didn't do that. Please!

They had the Klipsch paired, the Pioneers weren't plugged in. They unplugged one of the Klipsch, but not the other, and swapped it for the Pioneer. Everything we said sounded good, with our ears right next to the Pioneer, he said was coming from the Klipsch. After a while I just gave up...almost made me wish they worked on commission...

Amazing! They understand their job - which is to show up for work?

As a best buy employee I have to say we don't stand for the knowledgable sales people we should. Some of us get it. About one or two per store. I see best buy flames on this forum all the time some are flat out hate and some comments like this are completely justified. I am sorry for your experience it shouldn't be that way.

The Pio FS51 towers are a bit shorter than most towers.
Does anyone know if there are some small stand for towers to bring up the height a bit?
I know the tweeters should be about ear level.

Go to standsandmounts.com and look at their stands.

The speakers look better in person.
The fit and finish is good.
You have to see them in person to appreciate them.

Hi,

Any chance you can still post those measurements here? I'm particularly interested in the frequency response measurements for the FS51 and BS41.

Thanks,
Will

I've got a small living room 5.1 setup with Energy Take 5's, F12 sub, all being fed from an Onkyo TX-SR573 (looking for a replacement to do Dolby TruHD). Room is 16' x 20'.

Would the BS21 + C21 be an upgrade or overkill given the size of this room compared to the Take 5's? (I don't get the sense of much clarity from the Take 5 center)

TIA,
Dave

While the Take 5 is a good little micro-sat system, the approximately 6x larger Pioneers should be a very nice and appropriate upgrade. With the Pioneer's superior extension you'll be able to move your crossover frequency down to a much more reasonable 80Hz, versus 110Hz+ with the Energy sats, and that alone should be a notable improvement beyond a generally improved upper end.

I have the Onkyo 573 in my office and use to have the Take 5 speakers connected to them. Went to bookshelf speakers several years ago. HUGE difference in performance.

What I might suggest is to get the BS41 as front speakers instead of the BS21. It'd be nice to have a larger woofer up front plus it'll match the C21 center since they all use 5.25" drivers. The smaller BS21 would be fine for surrounds.

$99 at JR.com

BTW, the BS 21 are on sale for $80 this week at BBuy- depending on tax, that's about a $20 difference between J&R.

Still looking for suggestions on a receiver to pair with this system. As great as the Klipschs sounded, I'm not ready to drop that much coin, will probably go with the floorstandings, the BS41 rears and the center, which puts me around $500 for speakers, with no receiver and no sub.

While you are at Best Buy, look at the Denon receivers.

Will do, heading back over there today. I'd like a 7.1 receiver in case of future expansion I saw a few markdowns listed on Slickdeals; receivers seem to get deeply discounted pretty often.
