(1) Acer 5360 for 420 dollars from Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Acer-EY-K0701-020-Acer%C2%AE-3D-DLP-Projector/dp/B0036R9ZKA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347557022&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+5360
(2) Pioneer front speakers based on CNET reco - tigerdirect - 99 for a pair
Pioneer Andrew Jones SP-BS22-LR Bookshelf Loudspeaker - 2 Way, 55Hz-20kHz, 80 W, Gold 5-Way Binding Posts at TigerDirect.com
(3) Pioneer Center for 99 dollars
Pioneer Andrew Jones Designed SP-C22 Center Channel Speaker - 55Hz-20kHz, 6 ohm, 9 Watt, 2 Way Configuration at TigerDirect.com
(4) Pioneer sub in case someone can get it for me - not sure if airlines accept it. - tiger direct for 99 dollars
Pioneer Andrew Jones Designed SW-8MK2 Subwoofer - 38Hz-150Hz, 100 Watt-Powered Amplifier (50W FTC Power Output), 8 Driver at TigerDirect.com
(5) Either # 2 or 3 on this list for surround sound
http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/electronics/3236451011/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_e_1_5_last
Now my dilemma is whether I should go for BS41 speakers for my front left and right - compared to 21 and 22 - they are a few inches bigger and am not sure if the dimensions of the package is within the check in baggage limits of airlines. Also if I buy bs41 speakers then I have to buy last years center and Sub.
Assuming BS 41 is within the check in limits - is it worthwhile to go for it and last years center and sub - or just go with BS 22 and current years center and sub?
I am no audiophile and have no idea about ohms and impedance and all that.
Also at these price points - do I get anything better or get a better deal on the above??
Thanks in advance for all your help

can anyone answer the above please? Thx

By all accounts the new series of Andrew Jones speakers sound better than the first edition. Have not heard them myself, only the original series.

Don't know how the BS-41 matches up with the BS-22 though, apparently they didn't make a BS-42 to replace the 41.

Why not get matching pioneer speakers for surrounds? Then you'll have a complete set instead of mismatch surrounds.

Also, I see speakers, sub and projector. What receiver will you be using?

The answer is simple for me, 2 pairs of Pioneer BS22 speakers and the C22 center.
You will have to spend more to beat them. The BS22 does have some nice bass for
the size.

I would try to find a better subwoofer, the Pioneer sub is somewhat limited. However,
it woud be better than no subwoofer.

Hi - here is a post from another forum - this one is an Indian hifi website . It has the list of receivers I have shortlisted. I can spend more but frankly I dont use most of the features

Thank you,

Last year I tried to assemble a home theater - and I relied on Polk - since I am not an expert myself - I just looked at speakers within my price range at Amazon and looked at peoples ratings. You can see the details in my signature in the below post. I am happy with left, right and center. However my Sub is underwhelming and mind you - this is the best selling sub on Amazon with 600 reviews. Then I realized that the fault lies in me picking up bits and pieces from different ranges of Polk and its better to pick everything from the same range. Hence I want the pioneer sub since its is from this year range and hopefully should gel well with the other components. Your take please?

The Pioneer sub is not a great performer, and I doubt that it would be significantly better than whatever Polk sub you bought.

And subs don't need to be from the same speaker brand/line.

Thanks. I bought the Polk PSW10. I have read people mentioning in the post the timbre or something like that - forgot the technical word - has to match between the speakers and sub

I for the most part, tend to take the Amazon reviews with a few grains of salt.

If I had to choose between the Pioneer or Polk PSW10 - I would take the Pioneer sub.
The Polk is a poor match for the Pioneer speakers. The Pioneer sub will blend better.

Are the European versions related to the Us Andrew Jones designed speaker types?

Here in Belgium I can buy a 31 series and 71 series and a 5.0 speaker package called S-LM.
http://www.pioneer.eu/nl/products/42/99/161/S-LM2/index.html

They seem to be more expensive than the US version, but still pretty reasonable priced?

To my knowledge these (31 & 71 series) speakers were not designed by Andrew Jones even though they bear a strong resemblance. I would guess that if you do not see the FS51's, BS41's, BS 21's and C-21's (1st generation) or the new FS52's, BS22''s or C22's (2nd generation) speakers listed on your country's website, then they are probably not available. That is unfortunate as they are truly great speakers in the entry-level category. Perhaps Pioneer will make them available in the future. wink.gif

I got the pioneer cs21/bs21/bs41 speakers in the mail. I haven't opened them yet but judging from the size of the boxes they look to be too LARGE to fit in my 10x10' room! Are these directly mountable on the wall? Can they also be safely placed on a mounted bookshelf?
If you can find my post with a picture a few pages ago, I made shelves to hold the BS41s and CS21 and so far they've been great. The boxes have a lot of packaging to protect the speakers.

The sides do curve. You could probably make it work w/ some non-slip rubber pads like you buy for furniture stuck onto the side clamp deals.

Not sure if people have seen this interview with Andrew Jones. If you go forward to 30 minutes they get into the new series of the pioneers. Interesting stuff.

Thanks guys for posting that video! Really starting to solidify my choice of these (the new series) over the BIC's I was thinking of.

Now I need to decide if I should go with the B41's for the front L&R or the BS22's.eek.gif
post #2958 of 4205
^ like i posted in your other thread, the 41s

It would be subjective - however, I like the signature sound of the phase 2 series. The balanced
sound of the midrange and the exteneded smooth treble, is nice. >>> When mated to a decent
subwoofer, the decision is easy for me. Your option and choice - good luck.

Yep, the 42's do sound good in the mids and highs. I would have chosen them over the 41's just for the grill covers though, even if they didn't have updated drivers & a larger cab. cool.gif

Hi everyone, first post!

I was planning on getting the SP-BS22-LR to use as my computer speakers and I was wondering what amp I should pair them with? I'm on a budget here so less is more smile.gif I've looked at the Lepai LP2020A already as it's supposed to be a good budget amp but honestly I have no clue and since this thread is specific for these speakers maybe you guys could help me out?

Cheers

Alright, well I currently have the X-fi xtreme gamer soundcard which probably isn't optimal for music but at the time I bought it purely for gaming. So that's where I will have to connect the speakers with I assume. Now I don't know if it's worth getting a new soundcard such as the Xonar DG/D1 to improve my sound because I still want to game with my computer.

As for my budget, cheaper is better, however I still want quality of course wink.gif. I want to get these speakers as they seem the best speakers for this price range and I want an amp that is priced proportionally. I don't have a specific budget in mind yet.

That's it off the top of my head, thanks in advance for any help received!

I assume your card has optical out? If so, you could look for a used receiver on your local Craiglist that has optical in. Then the DAC in the receiver will convert to analog instead of the X-fi xtreme gamer.

Hello all
1st post here!
I have enjoyed reading all this info on the Pioneers. I have ordered 2 pair of the BS41 and matching center channel to upgrade my 5.1 surround system. I am looking for suggestions on how to place the front sound stage up. I have an 8' wide, 9' tall and 2' deep niche area I am working with. We are looking at either doing a built-in drywall entertainment center or custom wood entertainment center similar to this without the bookshelves http://www.stonecreekfurniture.com/theater-furniture/entertainment-centers/wainscotted-entertainment-center Since the speakers are rear ported would it be better to leave them more out in the open in a drywall niche than inside the wood cabinet area below the TV?

From what I have read it would be best to place the all three front speakers with the tweeters about the same "ear" height from the floor right? This may be easier to do with the drywall design. Would it effect the sound if I turned the BS 41 on their sides horizontally like the center channel speaker? This may help with the layout of the entertainment center.

thanks for any suggestions.

$104.99 - $20 PM = $84.99: Pioneer SP-BS41-LR
$59.99 - $10 PM = $49.99: Pioneer SP-C21
$99 - $50 Promo Code - $25 PM = $24.99: Pioneer SP-BS21-LR

Total is $159.97! Actually cheaper than before! Sweet!
