Basically curiuos how it would blend and if the sub is overkill for the speakers?

Crossed over properly, they would work beautifully.

I currently run a NHT Evolution U2 sub setup with three B21's in a music only rig. Very pleased with it.

IMHO, these are speakers that, while literally dirt cheap, are not at all over matched when paired with a high quality sub. In fact, you do them a huge disservice by NOT going with a quality sub.

Having said that, you are still not going to get 105dB out of them, but kept within reasonable limits, no problem.

Thanks, read a thread of a frequent poster over at Cnet that said he had his up this way. So I figured I would give it a shot.

How do the 52's compare to the Polk Audios 50's? I want to replace my surround speakers from bookshelves to all tower speakers. I am not sure if I should go with the Pioneers 52 towers or the Polk Audios 50's, which are on sale for $80 dollars free shipping at newegg.com.

Do I need the Square Trade warranty as well when buying from Tiger direct? I don't know why Pioneer skimped out on the warranty. It's only 1 year parts and labor compared to its competitors that offer a 5 year warranty.
part of the low cost passed on to the consumer. Shorter warranty = lower cost.

I would like to know what type of receiver everyone here is using with their A.J. Pio's. The reason for asking is because I want to know what type of sound do you get form these relatively warm sounding speakers. I'm using an old Yamaha HTiB HTR-5450 receiver and since Yamaha's are kinda on the "bright side" , it matches good with the Yamaha.
So, What about you??? How does your Pioneer, Harmon/Kardon, Denon, Onkyo,(for example) or whatever your using sound with these speakers.

What are your front 3 speakers?

You can listen to the 52's and Polk Tsi300s at Best Buy as the Monitor 50 is the same as the Tsi300 in a different cabinet.

My speaker set up is a mismatched 7.1 system. I am trying to at least match the front 3 speakers. I bought a HITB HT-S911THX about 4 years ago. My son anddaughter put some holes in my 3 front and one surround sound. So, I've been buying stuff on sale due to my wife not allowing me to spent too much $$ untilwe buy our new house.

My current set up
Front left and right tower Jamo S426
Center Klipsch synergy C1
Surround back left/ eight onkyo s960
Surround left / right Pioneers 21's
Sub onkyo s960 10".

What I am thinking of doing:

Buying 4 more tower and a center channel, and using my existing 2 towers as surround back. Also buying a new sub probably a Dayton 12" for $110 on sale, which I've heard good things about.

I'm using a Denon 1912. I had a Yamaha 373 but swapped it for the Denon before I got the pioneers. I don't feel like either colored the sound much. They both try to achieve a reasonably flat sound through their optimization programs.

LR are 52s, center is c22, highs are bs22's, and surrounds are fluance bipolars. Sub is a sealed Dayton DVC15 run off a INuke 3000.

Went and checked out the SP-C22 last night at Best Buy and loved it. Didn't notice much of a difference from the Polk or Klipsch they had on display as well. The sales guy was trying to talk me into buying the Klipsch. His reasoning was that the Pioneer was only a $100.00 speaker and that it couldn't be any better than the $250.00 Klipsch because it was so cheap. I'm probably going to wait till next payday, but I can see a Pioneer surround system in my future.

Also, the model number of my existing center channel is Onkyo SKC-200C. Knowing this, is this Pioneer going to make a huge difference? It's just so tough to tell at Best Buy because it's so loud in there. But what I could hear, sounded good.

The warranty issue is still troubling me. They offer only a 1 year warranty. I haven't made up my mind on buying from Best buy or Tiger direct. In either case, I would need to shell out extra for the post 1 year warranty (a bit higher for Best buy). In this context, I have the following questions.

1. Based on Pioneer reliability, would it be ok if I skipped the warranty? Does the brand have a good reliability factor to warrant skipping the warranty?
2. What are things that I could do to maximize the possibility of this equipment surving for a long time?
3. If the warranty cannot be skipped, is Square Trade or Best buy (based on the channel I choose to buy from), good coverages for this system?

I expect warranty to run an additional $100 which seems a bit of an overkill for me but I haven't owned a Pioneer before and don't know what the reliability factor is.

dont bother with the warranty, these are speakers, not amps
post #3226 of 4205
Speakers in general are pretty tough. The first generation Pioneers, if those are the ones you're considering, are especially so thanks to their fixed metal grills. If they work when you get them, and nobody tears a surround or dents a tweeter with their fingers, you're probably good to go for the next 30 years. Damaging them with use is highly unlikely as long as you're using a decent amplifier. In short, going without an extended warranty is a very small risk.

Thank you. That kind of eases things up on the waller.

Any recommendation on the Receiver to use with this Speaker set that doesn't break the bank? I would ideally like to have the ability to stream music from my Galaxy S3. Not sure if any receiver supports the ability for wireless streaming from an Android phone. I know Apple Airplay is probably there. Are there any reasonable places to buy such a receiver? Also, I assume I need the warranty for the Receiver right? I might buy the full speaker set except the sub-woofer given the dismal reviews on the Andrew Jones sub-woofer. So, in summary, the list would look like this.

1. SP-BS22-LR Bookshelfs
2. SP-C22 - Center channel
3. SP-FS52 Floor standing front speakers
4. Receiver?
5. Sub?
Has anyone seen the BS22s going for less than $99? Trying to decide if I should go ahead and get them to replace my surrounds or just wait a little while and save a couple dollars.

I am not comfortable buying a refurbished unit.

I am also waiting to see if the price would go down.

Best Buy has the new Pioneers FS52 at $99.99. I will go buy tomorrow and probably buy a pair, and a center channel. I was thinking of buying the new Polk Audios since they offer a free 505 sub, but I can safe some $$ by buying the Pioneers and a separate sub.

is that 99 a piece or for a pair?

That's $99.99 a piece. The center channel is $99.99 as well.

I am thinking of buying two FS52 towers $200, 1 CS22 center channel $100, and BIC Formula F-12 12" Subwoofer $220. That should be around $520 + Tax.
Are rear speakers absolutely needed? I heard you could live with the two fronts and the center without even a sub-woofer because the fronts output sufficient bass.
No fronts output as much bass as a quality subwoofer.

But yes, you can survive on a 2.0, 3.0, 2.1 or 3.1 system without surrounds. Its all about what you want in your room.

I only want a 3.1 since I am using my current front tower S426 and 2 Pionner SP-BS-21 for back and surround back. I want to match the front speakers. I don't really care if the back speakers match.

I own a set of these mounts from def tech
ab52124699637284245692c55948fe33.jpg

Is there any reason you could not install a 1/4-20 threaded insert like this one in the back of the sp-bs22?e560064823a07713fc9692f2aaf3f91d.jpg

Would it somehow damage the integrity of the speaker?

It wouldn't damage the integrity of the speaker if you can get it in there right. I've had no luck with threaded inserts and mdf. It tends to bubble up the mdf because it does not compress around the threads of the insert enough. I’ve had the same problem with hardwoods like maple. I think they are only suitable for pine and such.

If you want to use 1/4" machine screws I would recommend hurricane nuts. You should be able to get them in there after pulling the jack plate off the back.

How much weight is that mount rated for? I don't know if I would hang bs22's from a single 1/4-20 bolt like that.
