$31? That's pretty steap for a 40 minute documentary.
I just received "Deep Sea" yesterday from Sony for free as one of their promo discs along with "Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs."

And while I can accept a $30 to $40 price for 3D movies, and even higher for an exclusive 3D bluray movie on ebay, I don't know about spending the same amount for a 40 minute documentary. Now that's crazy.

Looks like I'll be buying IMAX 3D movies later down the road once they hit the bargin bins at half the price.

It has been my experience in buying Blu-Ray discs (not 3D) that BB and some other retailers usually have an introductory reduced price on the release date of the disc and for the rest of that week. I wonder how this introductory price compares to the Amazon pre-order price? Anyone have any comparisons or WAGuesses?

Ill probably buy it just to support the format. Its expensive though.

Very expensive. At half the running time, it should be half the price. So I'll just be supporting movie blurays myself and not someone's greed at IMAX. I think it's bad enough that most TV brands are screwing everyone on 3D content with their 3D bluray exclusives. If anyone should be supporting the format, it should be them. And yet all their doing is killing it.
Go figure.

I'm sure the price will go down as we get closer to release. Its standard operating procedure on pre-orders for Amazon's price to be relatively close to the MSRP and then slowly drop as the release date approaches.

Even though Amazon typically adjusts the price automatically for pre-ordered items, I just add titles like this to my wish list so I have them all in one area and monitor the prices every few days. When they reach a level that I'm happy with, I place the order.

This is a really good Blu-ray 3d disc. It has much depth and a lot of pop off the screen effects.

This is imo, the Best Imax Sea movie. I watched this on Diretv PPV and even at satellite quality it was simply amazing. This is def a showcase IMAX film!

Exclusive deals do support the 3d format; they wouldnt get released unless there was a market to cover costs.

Ill buy just to make it cost effective for more releases to come out, eventually driving prices down and ensuring my $2k+ investment isnt worthless.

The quality of this is very good. Much better than the Imax Under the Sea 3D BD. That one has convergence issues.

I watched this on my PN58C8000, and it is good sea documentary and only that. The 3D effects are not that great. MvA has better 3D effects. With the price at $40, it is not worth the money.

Were your settings correct. I only ask because this is one of the better Blu ray 3D discs. It is full of depth and a lot of pop out in your face effects. Looks great with my set-up.

Oh, I'm not saying it has bad 3D effects, the movie certainly has depth and pop-up moments, but it suffers, I don't what people here call it, blurriness and not clear focus due to probably it being under water and the constantly moving sea life.

The fried egg jelly looking thing was one of the best moments. =)

Anyone disc not loading? I finally got it to play but I'm sending it back to Amazon. It also has the black mini bars on the left and right.

Forgot to mention that the narration on this by J. Depp and K. Winslow is as dry as a desert. Very surprised at that.

All 3d essentially has black bars on the right and left. Think about how 3d works - displaying 1 image to each eye that your brain then puts together (centers). How do you show 1 image to each eye without having a bar at the right and left edges of the screen on the alternating image (you can't show something to the left of the left edge or right of the right edge... which is why you have a black bar inserted on the alternating frame). This will most likely show up as crosstalk on less than ideal displays.

Does this make sense - words are hard...

The only time those vertical pillaxboxes are visible for me is if the TV is in 2D>3D mode; the greater the DEPTH setting the larger the size of the bars.

Are you sure you selected the 3D version on the disc's menu?

I watched Deep Sea again but this time sat about one screen width (about 4 feet) from my Samsung 61" DLP. The experience was totally different. At normal viewing distance it was like looking at a fish tank. At four feet it was like being at an IMAX theater. The scene of the swarm of jellyfish was amazing.
This might be the way to watch all IMAX 3d films since that is the way they are presented in theaters.

I played this last night; it kept freezing up on my Samsung C6900 but played fine on my PS3.

In terms of content it was a good presentation but I actually enjoyed Under the Sea more.

That's my 3d mantra "Move as close as physically tolerable." I always move close to watch 3d.

Does anyone know if this disc is region free?

Which one was a better 3d presentation?

Truthfully, I thought Under the Sea had better 3D and really only a couple of instances of obvious ghosting. There was one shot in Under the Sea of a potato fish coming out of the screen that was really impressive as it seemed to be only a few inches from my nose.

Deep Sea 3D looked nice and had good depth but the presentation seemed drier to me and the narration by Depp was really dry and Winslet often sounded like she was speaking to a five year old. There was also visible banding in this title, especially in a few shots featuring jellyfish in the deep ocean. Instead of inky black backgrounds, the sea took on a greyish hue like a satellite TV broadcast that didn't have enough bandwidth. While I got that feeling of looking out a window, at no time did anything ever really have the pop that I experienced with Under the Sea.

Other folks seem to think Deep Sea 3D was the superior title but the above was my experience.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I'd like to know which is the best too. I've got the Samsung 3-IMAX sampler, and Into the Deep was really cool. Especially the Kelp Forest scenes. I rented Under the Sea with Jim Carrey on the On-Demand station and it definitely had some awesome scenes, especially the one with the Sea Snakes. I haven't seen this one though. Main thing I'm looking for is I'm a Caribbean lover lol. I want to see lots of colorful corals n such
