Confusion on blu-ray 3D player.

Here is what I have.

TV: Mitsubishi WD-65638
Emitter : Mitsubishi 3DC-1000 3D Starter Pack
Glasses: 2 Mitsubishi (from Mits. starter pack), 2 Samsung glasses from Starter pack with Monsters vs. Aliens. (work with the Mits emitter).

Now I'm looking for a Blu-ray 3d player, and from what I've been able to figure out this is this.

1. The Mitsubishi is a checkerboard format 3D TV
2. The Mitsubishi Emitter box transfers the format from the 3D player to checkerboard to fit the TV.

So here is my question. Does it matter what format the player is, as the player goes into the emitter box and is converted to checkerboard? Correct?

The only way that the player format has to be checkerboard is if I'm using the DLP link glasses and not using the emitter?

I've been borrowing my brothers PS3 and everything is working fine, I just don't really care for using the PS3 controller as a remote and would rather have dedicated blu-ray 3d player.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Any 3D Blu-ray player will worth when plugged into the adapter. The glasses used doesn't make a difference and you could use DLP Link if you wanted to.

The 3D format to your 65638 TV has to be checkeboard regarless of what glases you use and what the source is.

does that mean that the 3D player need to output in a checkerboard format? Doesn't the Signal adapter that comes in the kit convert the signal of the player to checkerboard format for the the TV? The player I've been considering is the Sony BDP-S470 but I don't see anything stating what format it's output is.

Things will only get more complicated when the new DVR shows up on Thursday along with my 3D programming from Directv. Am I going to need some kind of switch between the Blu-ray player and the DVR so they can both be run through the Mitsubishi 3DC-1000 3D adapter?

could they make this more confusing?

Digging around on Mitsubishi website I found the following on the 3D adapter that comes with the Starter Kit.

The 3d adapter will convert the following formats to Checkerboard 3D 1080P 50Hz for display on all Mitsubishi 3D DLP TV's.

Frame packing 1080p @ 24Hz (Blu-ray) (1920 x 2205)
Frame packing 720p @ 60Hz (1280 x 1470)
Top/Bottom 1080p 24Hz (1920 x 1080)
Top/Bottom 1080p 30Hz (1920 x 1080)
Top/Bottom 1080p 60Hz (1920 x 1080)
Top/Bottom 1080i 60Hz (1920 x 1080)
Top/Bottom 720p 60Hz (1280 x 720)
Side-by-Side 1080p 24Hz (1920 x 1080)
Side-by-Side 1080p 30Hz (1920 x 1080)
Side-by-Side 1080p 60Hz (1920 x 1080)
Side-by-Side 1080i 60Hz (1920 x 1080)
Side-by-Side 720p 60Hz (1280 x 720)

I have the same tv, with PS3 and DirecTV. Going to be getting the Converter box, then the DLP link glasses and saving $100.

If you go the switch box route, make sure it supports HDMI 1.4/3D. What kind of audio device to you use, or are you just using the speakers on the TV? I'm running through a receiver that has HDMI 1.4 throughput.

Get a Panasonic 3D Blu-ray player. They will output in checkerboard format. Hook it directly to the TV, then you can connect your DirecTV DVR to the adapter. Voila!
