Pioneer Elite VSX-32 / 33 Owners' Thread - Page 41

Hi folks I need some help. My Pioneer 1325, that I have owned since March 2011, has in the past two weeks been going into shutdown while playing loud parts of the blu-ray discs. The red light above the ipod/iphone icon blinks continuously but no message comes up. After reading the manual, noting the suggestion that I check all the speaker connections - done and they appear to be fine – the manual suggests I take it to the repair depot.

I was doing so – here in Canada, it was through my retailer, Future Shop – I purchased a replacement loaner, in this case a Pioneer 1326. Hooked it all up and played another blu-ray Mission Impossible 4, and the same thing happened. It would therefore seem that it is not the receiver, but I have no idea.

The speakers are all Paradigm: Fronts Monitor series 7 and CC 190 (two years old), the rears are old Titans and the sub is a new DSP 3200.

I am now wondering:

1) The impedance is set to 8 ohms. All of the paradigms have the statement – “Compatible with 8 ohm”, does that mean I could set the system to 6 ohm and they would work?
2) Should I still take the A/V Receiver in to have it checked out?
3) What do I do to check out if one of the speakers is shot?

If anyone has any suggestions as to how to address the diagnostics of this problem, I would be very grateful. It’s driving me crazy.eek.gif

the pio should easily power the paradigm monitor 7 as they have average sensitivity but the sub is a beast, but theres no reason why you should be having trouble powering them without the amp shutting down or overheating. If your speakers are 8ohm ,your avr should be set to an 8ohm setting. Check for any cross/touching wires at speaker terminals,if not maybe you could try run another mcacc eq & see if that tells you anything ...good luck.

like someone else suggested, try running the automatic config setup to see if you have cabling issues.

if you keep it and can't find the issue, you can still get an external power amp and use your pre-amp to feed that amp. You can use external amp for front and keep the other speakers on the pio.. should fix your issue (not the elegant way)

On my vsx-33 I use a xpa-5 + upa 2 so all my 7 speakers are on an external amp. I may relocate the upa-2 or bi-amp my front with it.

Thanks to all of you for the responses. I should have posted sooner but - - - forgot. I figured out the problem. I had a blown woofer in my Paradigm Titan rear speaker and that was causing the auto shutdown of the Pioneer. Got the speaker repaired and all is well!

I bought a roku box. What's the best way to hook this up? My older model Pany plasma only has 2 hdmi so I bought 1-3 from amazon. It appears that the output goes to the TV and then input-1 fios box 2-oppo 3-roku in terms of priority. Will my 32 recognize the roku? I have a harmony remote so I guess I should add another task and call it roku? What output audio setting for the 32? Thanks for assistance

Hi folks, wanted to see if anyone has had an issue like mine with the VSX-33. I have external amps, but have the hdmi out of the receiver going to a plasma tv. From time to time, I hear a scratching like noise coming out of the Samsung TV speakers. The volume is turned down all the way. At first, I thought it was an issue with the TV, but it is actually caused by the Pioneer receiver. If I turn it off for like 30 seconds, the noise goes away when I power it back up. I tried changing cables, but it still happens. Any ideas? Also, I guess there are no firmware updates for these unit? Thanks..

yes there is a firmware upgrade, I updated my vsx-32 and vsx-33 with it (they use the same firmware). It fixed the networking issue I had with the internet radio. For the Samsung speakers.. you should disable them. You can set the Speakers to EXTERNAL in the menu.. will get rid of the noise. I'm not sure if it's specific to the Pioneer, I think mine always did that (I have 3 samsung tvs).

Sorry, if this has been asked before,...so here it goes, how do we you enable "midnight listening mode" on the VSX-33. I have looked over the manual and found nothing.

the midnight option is burried in the audio settings.. on the remote, make sure you press the AMP button first, then the audio options button is located northwest of the enter button (on the d-pad). You can search in the manual, it's a toggle, you enable the midnight mode at the same location as the LOUDNESS option. Search for loudness in the manual and you will find the midnight mode.

I recommend also trying the sound retriever option.. it gives nice result (located in the audio options too).

Great info. I will try tonight. I looked on the Pioneer website for firmware but did not find. Any place to look for the update? Thanks again!

You won't see it there, even if you call them they act like there is no update. Follow the PDF guide inside the archive..

So I'm completely new to the world of receivers, and am pretty overwhelmed by my VSX 33.. although I do love what I can make it do so far!

I got a bluetooth adapter (the Pioneer AS-BT200) so that I can play music wirelessly from my Macbook Air or my Android phone. Unfortunately, it seems I don't know how to know even the basic of functions with my receiver. I turned it to "Adapter" and it says waiting device, but I neither of my devices find it. I have a feeling I need to go into the "Home Menu" to set up bluetooth/the code/etc.. but here is the kicker, I still don't know how to access the home menu? When I press the button, nothing happens.

I'm sure I sound like quite the idiot girl-- but I promise, I really am trying. I'm just brand new at this stuff!

EDIT: Ignore that. I found the menu. Followed the instructions. But my Mac still won't find the device.

unplugged all cables, power on.. if it is still shutting down, then it's broken. Make sure you also try a different power outlet on a different circuit.

(Elite VSX-32) -16?? wow. if i am at -30 it is getting to that uncomfortably unnecessarily loud point. are you using your EQ? or "DISCRETE"? (not "pure" discrete) both of those make pretty huge differences on both sound quality and a major difference in decibels/volume. then you wouldnt have to go so low ( -20, -15, -10) and still get a higher volume output and not have your 32 kick off on you. if switch between "memory 1" (mine) and "memory 6 (unadjusted) ...... there is a HUGE difference. if i went to -16 i would be afraid of damaging something.

Hey guys. I am new to this forum but I have had my VSX-1325K since beginning of 2011. Just wanted to check what might be the best setup with the following:

Pioneer VSX-1325K Receiver
Klipsch RF-82 Front Towers
Klipsch RC-62 Center
Klipsch RF-52-ii Rear Surrounds
Sharp Aquos Quatron 52" TV
Epson 6310 3D Projector
Draper High Contrast Grey 130" Screen
Sony BDP-S580 Blu-Ray Player
XBOX 360
Bell FIBE TV

I mean in terms of audio and video setup. I have done the MCACC setup and I use the video upconverting set to Auto. Everything works well just wanted to know if I should tweak something or review my setup. Any help is appreciated.

P.S. - I just updated the firmware thanks to this forum and its members / moderators so thank you all!!!

Sorry forgot to mention I an using a 12" Klipsch SUB-12 downfiring subwoofer.

The zip contains the firmware update and instructions for updating the VSX-1120-K, VSX-33, and VSX-1325-K. Again, make sure your thumb drive is formatted FAT32 before copying the firmware to it. Thanks, and enjoy !!!!

Main 1.105 to 1.106

DSP 1.002 to 1.003

Sub 1.207 no change.

All the values matched what Danny posted earlier on. My Sub value was already at 1.207, so I'm assuming there was no change there? I'm just curious to find out what changes were made to the Main and DSP versions.

If you get a chance can you ask your friend what the changes were?

Thanks nuzzy, danny

From what I can tell, the recent posts about a firmware update for the VSX-33, VSX-32, VSX-1325-K, etc. is the same firmware update referenced in the posts quoted above. Unless I am missing something...

I've done the Feb 2011 firmware update on our VSX-33, and it worked great!

I have update my VSX-LX53 (Europe model) before one week with the firmware 1.09.

Main 1.104 -> 1.106

Sub 1.207 (no changed)

DSP 1.002 -> 1.003

Many thanks to DannyW75. No power restarts anymore!!!

So I take it the 32, and 33 haven't had a new updates since I've done mine back then?

I tried to help my bro-in-law with his VSX-32 setup. He hired the Geek dudes to come hookup his system, and oh my what a mess they left. Both front speakers had loose cables at both the speaker and amp terminals. I fixed that. He's running an ADCOM GFA-555 2 channel amp for the fronts. Fuses on the amp were blown for the right channel, so I fixed that. Most of the rest of the connections were OK, but I don't think they sound checked his system before they left him with the bill...WTF? I think he needs to call them back to fix it for no additional charge, but that's just me.

Anyway, the reason for my post. I am a 5.1 owner and have never messed with 7.1. He has 5 speakers + SW, so he has to go 5.1. They hooked his surround speakers to the Rear Surround speaker terminals. So, when he plays a 5.1 DVD, there is no rear channel output. I want to to know if this is correct that the rear surround terminals do not output a signal in a 5.1 playback? Not knowing this receiver and not being a 7.1 expert, I just want to make sure I'm giving him good information. I would have switched the wires, but the receiver is stuffed into an impossibly tight cabinet and I could not get to the back of the unit to switch the wires.

I think I'm correct here, but would like some expert feedback on the rear vs. surround hookup. Oh, he didn't have 7.1 DVD for me to check to see if the rears work on playback. They do work in the manual speaker level check. Thanks in advance for your help on this.

Jake45,

I just checked my system, I have 5.1, and they should be connected to the Surround rather than the Surround Back ( that's how it's labeled on the VSX-32).

I was just checking the manual again and it states the Surround Back can be used for Zone 2.

jsm636...Thanks for checking. I was 99% sure I was correct, but it's always good to verify.

Quick question...can I produce 9.1 with my vsx-1325k without any external amps? Owners manual seems to say I can however this receiver is advertised as 7.1?
I answered my own question by trying it and it doesn't work in 9.1. I can have up to 7.1 with different speakers depending on the audio mode I use (for example if I listen in front wide the rear surrounds don't work but the from wides do. If I listen in extended stereo the rear surrounds work but the front wides don't). It seems like you can hook up 9.1 speakers and turn then all on in settings but you will never get all working at the same time. Thought I would pass this info. along in case anyone else was wondering. The manual is mid-leading.
I sent my pioneer lx53 (vsx33 for NA) for an update. The technicians installed a new file, Main was changed to 1.107.
So far, I haven't noticed any differences with my unit.

Hi xeonicxpression I have a VSX-32 and was thinking of making a custom front-end for my setup at home. Did you ever finish your webpage for your vsx-32? the screen shot you posted looks very cool.
