bath remodel has just robbed me of $800 (and we aint done yet!)

that was painful. this is less painful.

i present to ya'll the final map config for my wet work map remake in teh haloz reach.

the new rear bldg (added the second floor walkway around the bldg)

the rear sections' main deck area

the front bldg and the new spawn point area (made bigger)

the front bldg and the front main deck area

the full boat

<1 minute fly over of the final map

i seriously tried to add new game variants, but ultimately failed for unknown reasons. perhaps someone out there in the halo universe knows how to add other gametypes better than i and will bestow upon us the gift of 18 player big team battle on the boat! slayer modes work great as the spawn points have been fixed. weapon spawns and balancing has been done. that is some things were removed and some added. add some more scenery however there isnt much of a budget left ($95 forge monies i think).

thanks to the few who did manage to be online when i was and joined in the very quick test runs. input was seriously helpful and implemented. overall im satisfied enough to birth this one out to public. have fun.

Sorry I havent been around much man but just too much going on. Job has me travelling like crazy during the week, college football on saturdays and NFL on sundays & Monday night. Yankees finally clinched.. and of course NBA preseason just started and I cant wait to see what Wade/Lebron/Bosh is gonna do. Too much competition on TV these days.. (just got around to watching the AMA finals at Barber.. AWESOME 600 races).

Havent forgot about you guys though, with Winter coming soon there will be plenty of long days with nothing to do but game. Not to mention Im only buying 2 more games this year (Black Ops & GT5).

lol. kabobsmash is a play on the Hulks line from the marvel vs capcom games: "hulk-smash!". remember us when your world famous!

-et al: wet work really only started as a test of feasibility. a flat piece with some blocks on it. i mentioned it somewhere i cant recall and i remember gonzo mentioned something about "it would be cool if you could use that hologram ability on a map like the mw1 wet work map". as i kept adding pieces for the general framework/playfield i've found forge easy to build on (for me).

what i've learned from the wet work map build will easily help me in future map builds.

i've learned that if you're going to spend time building a map, it better be a map that people will enjoy. you cant remake a map to scale in halo from any other games. you MUST "halo-ize" it. your character jumps 10 feet! everything has to be to halo scale. in addition to "halo-izing", the map must be fun.

shipment is fun in mw1, but it was getting rediculous towards the end with everyone noob toobing and air-strikes everywhere. this halo version will have none of those kill-streaks so it should just be the random nuttiness we were having in the mw1 days.

Cool Face there needs to be a way for you to promote this. I have to imagine MANY COD4 fans are playing Reach right now. And would love to play this older, more familiar maps!

It wasn't too bad for me on 3G.

Ah yes, this map looks familiar. Sorry I bailed out on your testing of it the other night. I was getting too frustrated at the spawn campers not giving me a sec of breathing room to get my bearings. I think you were about to quit for the night, too, anyway. I'll have to download the finished product and check it out.

Nice job.

I've put together a couple maps, testing out the mancannons... which can make for a quick rocket slayer game. Best with 3-8 players, critique welcome.

i'll queue up them maps geeeeeoff. with me getting my map out i now have time to really focus on the bathroom. i have 2 days to drive throughout los angeles county to get 3 pieces for the bathroom. tiles, window, and a custom drain.

so i'll have some time on sunday to both check out your maps and maybe build up shipment.

also an easy way to promote this map is first to hit the like button on bungie.net, then when you have downloaded the file to your own file share, hit the x button on it and select the recommend to friends. then i guess its that they have to hit the like button on bungie.net and repeat the above steps. thats if ya'll want.

ex-nay on the drain-ay. $500! for a drain! replacement? $25
window=done. left=tiles=fullerton(in traffic!ffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu)

left me with 2 hours of forge play time.

(repost
end of shipment build, day 1
-set the general area down
-hemmorhage area
-built a "fence" from glass pieces
-sure do luv me my warthog!

not bad for 2 hours work. simple map=quick build

repost:

wowza! ive figured out how to successfully make a couple of WORKING game variants. lots of trial and error.

to begin with beto jumps on and starts shooting my map up! wtf?! then he jams!

the kabob comes on, we shoot around, benjami pops up, we keep shooting around, then kabob decides to litterally pull the rug out from under benji! and in the process phuks up my map!

"oh man! what did i dooooo?" -kabob

no biggie. got it back in order. benji leaves. kabob stays, so i task him with building scenery. thanks to kabob, we also have added a couple more weapon spawn points, shields, tweaks to the shipment layout as well. not to mention that "snazzy" scenery outside the map.

back to the beginning.

i now have the following variants available for the CoD4 Shipment map:

-Head Hunter
-Capture the Flag
-Oddball (for some reason the golf ball i added doesnt disappear, yet the Oddball spawns right on top of it! weird)
-3-Plot Territories (i cant really test this one out till i get at least one other person to test this out with, but all the required parts are in there so i SHOULD work)
-Neutral Territories (i cant really test this one out till i get at least one other person to test this out with, but all the required parts are in there so i SHOULD work)
-Slayer
-i think i want to add an Assault game variant as well. i'll check this out tomorrow.

all of these variants get rid of the jet pack load out for both spartans and elites. we want to keep all that halo goodness inside the map!

so, i need test subjects. we need to setup 2 dates and times.

the process will be as follows:
-first test run will do 1 game through all game variants. the map being Shipment, it should go fast.
-then i need some time (approx 1 or 2 hours) to add any fixes or adjustments needed. map layout, spawn locations, general housecleaning. also to take into account any suggestions from the testers.
-we'll then setup a second test run, again through all variants.
-once more, another couple hours to iron out any final problems or such.
-publish to File Share including all game variants.

like i said before, this is a small map, so this equals a fast build.

download update for: CoD4 Wet Work map: 970 downloads, 35 likes.

it picked up steam after i posted links to around the interwebz. specifically 4 places. one of them is a forge community map tracker. another was bungie.net. i got yelled at for posting the link over at bungie, but i think that was the initial spark that started it. halotracker.com, looks like its the lighter fluid someone poured on the charcoal that was already lit.

its nice to see it downloaded so many times. its a definite confidence booster. i wanted to actually play halo last night, but found myself having a better time building the shipment map and figuring out the game variants. its like addictive!

repost:

easy maps to remake (by cool face standards):
bog from mw1 (bog area with downed tank on one side, aka the map where daekwan self airstrikes)
shipment from mw1 (box hell)
raven down from GoW1 (with a downed helicopter in the center, playfield in a cross pattern)
rust from mw2 (mw2s answer for shipment)

medium difficulty maps to remake:
vacant from mw1
wasteland from mw2 (sniper paradise 2, electric bugaloo)

definite head-bangin difficulty maps to remake:
crossfire from mw1 (sloped street, messed up buildings on either side of road, dirt everywhere, another day in Tehran)
bloc from mw1 (in russia, apartment complex rents you! great pool parties too!)

after shipment is done, i want to dabble in trying to make crossfire from mw1. the confidence boost im getting from the amount of downloads of Wet Work, might be going to my head, but i'll ride it out and try it out!

plus i want to try something that would be considered an "expert" build level.
BTW, I noticed you've got over 1,000 downloads for Wet Work!

4 hours later and Wet Work just hit 1,307 downloads. thanks to all who download and try it.

i wish i had figured out how to make the game variants before i released Wet Work. that way it could'a been a fully fleshed out package. however im glad the map itself works for so many people as a base for their games on it.

i dont think im going to be able to do a test run of Shipment today. this bathroom remodel is killin me! just dumped out half the walls, tiles, and water damaged wood.
my plan was to remove toliet and sink and then remove the remaining walls from behind them then redo the electrical for the place.
i think i can manage the potty, sink, and wall removals (then the subsequent putting them back!) but i may have to pass on the electrical today. i need to sleep early today so with this much physical work to do i must start now, but wanted to check-in on my lil Wet Work map.

Yeah it is addictive for some reason.

Did you start this thread for everybody to talk about forged maps or just for your maps? If it's for everybody, like it seems, I think that is a great idea.

I finally found this thread, with your link, and downloaded Wet Works but haven't had time to get on the xbox and check it out. Based on your pictures, your map looks pretty cool.

I'm really into the whole forge thing. I think if I could find enough guys on a regular basis to play on different forged maps, especially if we come to know and like them, I would mainly just play in that Custom playlist along with some 4 man Arena. But I haven't had much luck on that front yet. Heck I forged a map that I thought was pretty cool, even though it may seem simple I actually spent a lot of time on it, and I haven't even been able to get a game or two on it to try it out. I realize now after reading many of your posts, that I have to add some items for different gametypes, though.

The ball has been reset!
The ball has been reset!
The bbbbb-bbbballl has been, has been been been reset!!
Thread Starter
^that was a lot of ball resetting! LOL! remember that huge golf ball? turns out i didnt need it to spawn the oddball. all i need (or anyone needs) is a spawn zone and the oddball will spawn in the middle. also there are 3 ways you can make any object interact with the environment. one is phased, which means it'll go through objects. unfortuneatly this is the default setting. the golf ball at the start of the match actually kept the oddball on the map. once the oddball had to reset, and the golf ball not being there, there was nothing to stop the oddball from going through the map floor, thus a constant ball reset. it sucked! its been fixed though.

-also fixed was the assaults' bomb locations....its no longer INSIDE a friggin wall ;P. i cant test it for sure until i have another person to play against as it wont spawn a bomb without 2 individuals on each team.

-also have to figure out why kabob wasnt allowed into our games. i know someone theorized that it may be something on kabobs end. i think this too. it wouldnt explain though why he was allowed to enter the shipment map when i was building it. maybe his router/firewall settings considered that like a pc internet interconnect? while trying to get to the actual play map (hosted by me) was considered something else entirely? like as if my xbox was trying to upload to his xbox my maps information, thus the route/firewall settings trippin ballz?

-headhunter, i think, was the fun game of the night. not many errors. head collection areas worked as planned. i think this was about the time someone mentioned to adjust the warthog so it fires more horizontally. that's been fixed.

-that 3-plot territories game was a mess. the spawn points were inside the territories! it was unbalanced and unfair for the red team. plus the 3 territories never moved! i had setup 7 territories, but only those same 3 were active. i havent fixed this yet. i'll check it later.

-per that 3-plot territory game i've adjusted some of the spawn and respawn points for the map.

-i'll also go back into the map and add some slight scenary additions. i think the layout was pretty good. not many complaints. found out everyone didnt think that those convenant portable shields that kabob introduced werent going to work, but then that they did like them! especially when some of them were in key areas (the sniper alleys).

-- also this thread is for all map builders mph. it was suggested we splinter off the forge group from the main reach group just cause of the amount of information we post. also for question and answers from within the group. like ask me about Oddball resets! :P

btw, wet works has now been downloaded 1,702 times. thanks all!

also: (repost)

i feel embarased, but with the small crew we assembled yesterday we found one huge "bug" when we attempted to play Wet Work. those 4 areas that ramp down and have a small walkway from the main deck on each side of the boat, as soon as any of us stepped on the bottom ramp, it was an instant kill. someone theorized it was cause the ramp was touching the water line. i checked it out after our group broke up and done some bath stuff. it wasnt touching the water line! just before i sent the map out i read in the forge required objects guide that every forge map should have a "safe" volume. so i made this huge safe volume that covered the entire length of the map, but i failed to check if it covered all the way down to those 4 small walkways....which it didnt. i've adjusted it now, but its too late to re-issue the same map. im pretty sure everyone whos downloaded it by now has figured this out, so maybe they can just adjust it themselves i hope.

Oh damn, that wet works ramp problem made it to the official download? And there's no way to like update it for everyone? It's too bad because that problem wasn't there in the beta test when we could go under the main floor.

BTW it was dubbin that couldn't get into the user content, not kabob. His name was blinking and it was telling us that we couldn't player user content. Once he left it was all systems go. I still figure it has to be a setting on his end where he has it disallowing any user content (probably under some kind of privacy or security setting). I can partly understand why this would be an option, as some people are pretty careful and cautious about that kind of thing. I suppose someone could find an exploit in a map or file they have that if you downloaded it, it could mess up some portion of your game or xbox. So they offer an option to prevent that if you don't want user content. Dubbin just has to find the option (hopefully it really does exist) and start allowing user content.
Cool Face...I have a great (and pseudo-ambitious) idea for another map...

Tank Arena!

There was a game my buddy had on his Mac back in the mid 90's, it was alot of fun. Essentially it was a maze with narrow(ish) cooridors that you had to traverse and fight enemy tanks you might roll up to.

Make a giant flat floor area and arrange the walls into a maze pattern (with enough room for a Scorpion or Wraith or whatever to turn), turn off the radar, disable all armor abilities, and make it a last man standing (if at all possible).

Whatcha think?
Cool Face one note on that small map we played last night. found that both teams can occasionally spawn in the same spot which allowed for some easy spawn camping.

And F U for putting a wraith outside the walls for scenery! :P

Saw that thing and for a second my face lit up until I realized I couldn't get at it.
