dnwolner,

I have a HR21/100 DVR, which works great going through my soundbar, except that the 3D channels (ch 103 - 106) doesnt seem to play nice when it runs through my HT-CT150. 1080i 3D shows play fine, but 1080p and 720p content I have issues with. I have a HR24 in the bedroom, I may hook the TV up to this unit to see if this can be fixed by updating my Receiver.

Right now I simply have a HDMI cable running from the DVR to my NX810, and an optical toslink going to the back of my HT. My DVR wont push any audio output a toslink wont be able to handle, so this setup is just as good.

Anyone played Motorstorm yet in 3D on PS3? So far, when it comes to 3D implementation, Motorstorm has done the best job, from the games I've played so far. GT5 3D only stands out when you are in the "in-car" view, and the 3D effect in Black Ops is horrible, IMO
post #1503 of 6573
I want to use the wall mount. Does anyone know what screw size I need to buy for the back?

The instruction stated "use M4 x 8 screw". I bought a 4mm x 8mm from Home Depot, and it is not the right size.

Does anyone know the exact size to buy?

Thanks,

I can go with an nx810 or an nx710, the only difference being the 710 is 120hz as compared to the 810 which of course is 240hz. The price difference is abut $300. Will you notice the difference watching sports like football if I go with the 710? Opinions appreciated. thanks
post #1505 of 6573
for the extra $300? I would go for it...

I assume you mean the crosstalk stands out when you are in the car? I can't even play in-car in 3D due to the insane amounts of cross-talk.

Weird... you may want to visit DBSTalk.com and see if there are any known issues and fixes for the receiver. If you are on DTV's protection plan they will send you a replacement receiver if needed. One strange quirk... first make sure the TV is tuned to a DTV HD channel broadcasting in 1080i before you change the channel to one of the 3D channels. Sounds strange, but it works.

I double checked the CT150 specs... it has 3D pass through and ARC support, just like the CT350. Make sure you are plugging into the ARC port in back of the NX810... only one HDMI port supports ARC (not sure which number port it is as I can't look behind my TV).

I currently have the HR24, a PS3, and an Apple TV all connected to the CT350... one HDMI cable to the NX810 HDMI ARC port... the benefit is that all controls are now integrated... I shut off/ turn on the TV with the DTV remote, bothin the TV and the CT350 shut off/ turn on. All 3D channels work properly.

Also, if I were you, I'd put the HR24 with your new TV... new with the new...

Went through the same thing. Went to Home Depot and got screws of M6 size and 12mm in length and a couple of washers.

Perfect fit.

thank you!

does anyone know if it matter to get "plain steel" or "alloy"?

Ok so I had a chance to play around with the xpand x103 glasses.

1. It's definitely lighter and more comfortable to wear than the sony glasses.

2. I have less eye fatigue using the xpands in prolonged viewing sessions.

3. Image quality seems a little sharper, but the difference is small enough that many may not notice.

4. There's no improvement in cross-talk, but I really don't see cross-talk to begin with using the sony glasses, so not sure how it could have improved.

5. I don't experience drop-outs. Signal to TV is strong and consistent.

6. Tilting head causes image to get a little darker, but image stays and does not completely fade out. 3D effect diminishes the more you tilt however. This is the same behavior of my sony glasses with the free polarizer mod sent from sony.

7. It's about the same level of brightness as my sony glasses with the polarizers. It's a little bit darker than plain sony glasses.

Conclusion: Keeping the xpands mainly because they are lighter and more comfortable to wear than the sony's. Plus less eye fatigue, at least for me.

If you can't get the free polarizer mod from sony, then there is even more reason to get them as they provide the same effect where you can tilt your head.

Hope that helps all you 3D addicts!

Can't wait to see the 2nd ever NBA game to be broadcasted nationally in 3D on xmas day!

Just installed the bunchin stand for my 55". It looks BEAUTIFUL and the SOUND QUALITY - 10x BETTER! It really sounds like a mini-sound bar, you can definitely feel the bass and the mid and high tones are way more pronounced.

A little "food for thought" comparison. The sound produced by the built in speakers set at 60-65 is probably comparable to the sound output with the bunchin stand at level 22-25 (if not less).

The difference is literally night and day in comparison with the built-in speakers and the 2.1 bunchin stand.

thanks for the review.

I don't need the sound, but may i ask a question about the fit?

I live in CA so we have earthquake.

Do you feel it being more secured? Do you think it'll be more earthquake proof? or do you feel a strap is still necessary?

That looks great DIY. Thanks for posting the pictures and the review. Even though I'm very satisfied with the sound from my powered monitor speakers I am now using that stand is very tempting. It just makes an already nice looking display even more sleek and sophisticated.

Oh yes, it is definitely much more secure. There is no need for any extra straps. It will not wobble left or right, as the base rests on the whole bunchin stand.
I wouldn't hesitate to call it the "earthquake solution for (Sony) televisions".

Thank you and you're welcome.
Yes, the stand definitely has 2 perspectives enhanced; sound quality and aesthetics.
The design is just awesome and now I'll enjoy watching television without going through the hassle of turning any other external audio system on (I'm the only technical literate in the family, so I'd have to do all the work for them )
So I guess it enhances 3 scenario's!

Anyway uh.... Anyone get 3D to work well with GT5? I tried adjusting settings but I'm still seeing crosstalk like a mofo.

5 extra inches diagonally on a 16x9 screen is a 19% increase in viewing area. It's noticeable. I went from a 55HX800 to a 60NX810 for that difference. At first, the price delta betwen the 55 and 60 was ridiculous. It's still big, but under a grand, if you look hard enough...
Same here I was gonna get the 60 inch but the 55 was on sale for about half the price. For whatever reason the sales rep said sony was offering dramatic discounts on the 55 but not the 60. Maybe they feel people willing or can afford to spend 4000k and up for a Tv is a different consumer base.

Yup. At 4k and up, no way. But it's signficantly lower than that now...

Maybe the price difference is the extra LEDs, as well as the relative scarcity of 60 inch panels?

Very nice! I'm considering buying one for the 60. Sony says no, but it appears it could work, with some minor engineering.

Still kind of deciding between the NX810 and HX800. I hear they are pretty comparable PQ wise so it pretty much comes down to what is going to be the best deal come Boxing Day (i'm in Canada).

Future Shop already released their Boxing Day flyer and 55 inch HX800 is on sale for a nice 1999.99 bundled with 2 pairs of glasses/blu-ray player/transmitter. My FS doesn't carry the NX810 but my local Best Buy does but they don't have it listed in their Boxing Day flyer so I don't even know what the price on it will be (and it probably won't come with a bundle like the HX800 does)... so I'm thinking i'm better off with the HX... what do you guys think?

From what I have read the 810 is much better, I suggest you read some more reviews. More then likely Sony has ironed out issues with the 800 that are more then firmware.

Only way to solve is to disconnect power for 1 minute or do a reset to factory defaults. Does anybody else have similar issue?

Yes I have! I also have a 46 and my TV has connected to the internet over Wi-fi exactly once and loaded the internet content/did a firmware upgrade. I haven't tried a factory reset yet because I haven't written down my settings. The connection test always claims I have Internet yet trying the "refresh internet content" just results in it "acquiring" forever.

DLNA works for me, too, so it connects to the router ok, seemingly.

I haven't registered the TV yet. Does that matter? The "activate advanced features" under the network button isn't there to get a code. But as YouTube and other internet features did show up once, I can't see how this would matter.

I don't want to try wired because one of the reasons I purchased this model was specifically for its built in Wi-fi and I'm determined to make it work.

My iPhone connects to the Internet find over the Wi-fi. My PS3 technically does connect, but the connection drops and is really slow. It is however in a separate room from the router, but the NX810 is literally 3 feet from the router. My iPhone, however gets perfect reception and connects to the internet very well everywhere in my apartment. Does Sony just have crappy Wi-fi hardware?
For those who have had their TV's professionally calibrated, does the nx810 have that "secret" settings panel that only professionals are supposed to hack into? Or do the advanced white balance features replace that? I ask because I color correct photos by trade and if it's just fiddling with the visible settings, I'm definitely capable of adjusting the color to how i like my picture and i'd probably consider a professional calibration a waste of money if that's all they did. If there are still secret settings then it might be worth it.

be patient-the update can take as much as 5 minutes. Somedays I go to access and it requires an update and some days it does not. Yesterday it took 5 minutes-last week it took less than 1 min. I have a wired connection to my FIOS router (35 Mbps speed)

I did lose my widget a week ago...and I noticed my firmware was updated.

edit: just tested again today. As soon as I turned on the TV, I had to go to HOME and refresh the internet and it had to establish the connection...took about 30 seconds.

I just clicked on widget..and it is taking awhile...not sure if it is yahoo problem or the TV itself...the youtube is working...but widget is still "circling" icon in the right corner for 10 minutes now. Well..I don't believe it's yahoo problem since all the other widgets are not coming up. I guess there is some issues with the widget...hopefully a new firmware fixes it

what brand/model is your wireless router? I'm using one of those old Linksys router... Currently, I'm searching for a new wireless router with N...maybe Netgear since it support DLNA.

Should be great!!. I was so looking forward to this. Until I found out that cablevision isn't a provider of espn 3-d. So no 3d for me. - thx for the review on the xpands. Good to know there are other options out there. Enjoy the game!

How?..I've toyed w/ the idea but the techs insist I'm spitting in the wind.
Something about the panel being different. One poster mentioned it. LED edges all 4 sides for the 60..Keep us informed on that Mod. - thx

directv has ESPN3D and another dedicated 3D station as part of their regular subscription...no extra fees for it.

I need to get directv, and figure out what to do about voice and internet..
Maybe just keep cablevisions internet and voice and drop their tv service.
But Yes, Directtv seems like the way to go.
