Official Sony Bravia KDL NX810 owners' thread (60NX810, 55NX810, 46NX810) - Page 52

I dropped my ATT Uverse TV service..it was expensive even though I have their internet and voice. Now, I kept internet/voice with ATT, but I went with DirecTV for half the price of ATT Uverse.

If you have Costco, check out the DirecTV promotion...they always have one. Search around for some promotion... I signed up with free HD for life when they had the promotion.

http://shop.costco.com/Feature/DIRECTV

I haven't tested it out yet with the NX810 since the receiver it out reach right now. I might play around with it today to confirm...or if someone can confirm that 3D DirecTV works with the NX810....I would assume so...

If there are still secret settings then it might be worth it.

No secret settings. Most of us are capable of tweaking a set to a picture we like, but some of us are obsessed about tweaking our sets to a professional standard. That is basically impossible without instruments. Especially with white balance.

When I got my first set, an HX800, ISF'd, the settings dictated by the instruments were much different from those I had come up with on my own, after quite a bit of tweaking. I saved the old settings, and then A/B'd them with the new settings. What became clear is that on my own, I preferred a picture much more blue, and with much more edge, than ISF standard.

With time, I came to prefer my ISF settings to my old ones, with one basic exception--white balance. My set produced a picture on ISF'd settings that was simply too "warm" for my eyes. Skin tones, especially, were too orange/yellow. So I "fixed" that by adjusting color temperature to Warm1 or Neutral, presumably screwing up white balance as a whole.

On my NX810, I just rolled the settings over from the HX800 for now. I'll get it ISF'd in the New Year, on the next "tour" that my ISF guy conducts (he is based out of town). The way I figure it, it's $250, and the guy is very willing to explain what he is doing and the theories behind it while he's working, so I learn a lot.

Future Shop already released their Boxing Day flyer and 55 inch HX800 is on sale for a nice 1999.99 bundled with 2 pairs of glasses/blu-ray player/transmitter. My FS doesn't carry the NX810 but my local Best Buy does but they don't have it listed in their Boxing Day flyer so I don't even know what the price on it will be (and it probably won't come with a bundle like the HX800 does)... so I'm thinking i'm better off with the HX... what do you guys think?

The Visions boxing day flyer has the 55 nx810 for $2200.It's the tv only,no bundle.

One strange quirk... first make sure the TV is tuned to a DTV HD channel broadcasting in 1080i before you change the channel to one of the 3D channels. Sounds strange, but it works.

I double checked the CT150 specs... it has 3D pass through and ARC support, just like the CT350. Make sure you are plugging into the ARC port in back of the NX810... only one HDMI port supports ARC (not sure which number port it is as I can't look behind my TV).

I currently have the HR24, a PS3, and an Apple TV all connected to the CT350... one HDMI cable to the NX810 HDMI ARC port... the benefit is that all controls are now integrated... I shut off/ turn on the TV with the DTV remote, bothin the TV and the CT350 shut off/ turn on. All 3D channels work properly.

Also, if I were you, I'd put the HR24 with your new TV... new with the new...

Yes, it's weird because you'd think if there was something wrong with 3D pass-through on my HT, it either would work or not work, but the fact that it's only working for certain resolutions, I'm pretty convinced that the problem is coming from my HR21 receiver. 1080p 3D runs great through my HT when my PS3 is the source, so I know it's not my HDMI cables.

I also heard about making sure you tune into a 1080i broadcast before tuning to a 3D channel. Do you have to do this as well? I will be switching my HR21 out with my HR24 when I get home later today. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if it resolves the issue.

Those posters that responded to the 3d questions all have directv or FioS. So, Yes for sure the directv works for the 810. I guess a lot of us scattered about have different providers. In my case it's cablevision triple play. In my geographic region that seems to be what the majority uses. However..I see no reason I can't drop the TV option pay a bit more on the voice and internet and go w/ direct. FioS don't offer ESPN 3D nor does DISH. Haven't heard anything bad about Directv and I know one poster watched the last BB game and liked it. Cablevision has a 3d channel but when you access it they tell you nothing availbale yet check bak. Since my objective is to absorb 3d content, I should be dropping cablevision and picking up Directv. I set up the Wi-fi the first day and I'd had the TV 3 weeks before it connected to the internet once and did the upgrade. So I'm pretty sure that's not a case of my internet speed or patience. I know it connected only once because the same few hours in which I got the upgrade was the only few hours in which I ever got internet features like YouTube to show up, too.

I played the 3D demo disc with the football game....that was amazing...I thought I was sitting in the stand or standing on the sideline. My next project is to re-wire my cable connection to the entertainment room for the DirecTV.

As for DirecTV, i'm happy with the PQ...reception..HD...recorder..etc. You get free installation throughout your home....HD receivers, etc...can't beat that...

For those who said 3D isn't all that...well...to me...it's all that much of a difference 3D is the future

I just clicked on widget..and it is taking awhile...not sure if it is yahoo problem or the TV itself...the youtube is working...but widget is still "circling" icon in the right corner for 10 minutes now. Well..I don't believe it's yahoo problem since all the other widgets are not coming up. I guess there is some issues with the widget...hopefully a new firmware fixes it

what brand/model is your wireless router? I'm using one of those old Linksys router... Currently, I'm searching for a new wireless router with N...maybe Netgear since it support DLNA.

I've let my "refresh internet content" go for 5 minutes on several different occasions before giving up on it. I have a 5 year old netgear g but maybe it's time to upgrade too. I still am not sure I can blame my router since other devices connect to the internet on it fine, and the DLNA on my TV through that router works.

5 minutes is way too long...no more than 1 minute. It took me about 30 seconds or less for it to refresh and establish connection.

Try using the wired connection from your router to the TV and see if the apps is working or not. If it is working with wired connection, then something must be going on with the TV wireless or router wireless...maybe they're incompatible with each other? Do you have another wireless router to test? If you're planning to do a lot of internet streaming, then it's probably best to invest in a new router with N since the TV wireless has N as well. Get a dual band to support both 2.4 and 5Ghz frequency.

I just decided to turn on my TV and I noticed that all the Youtube internet is available and I didn't have to "refresh" the connection. Also, the Yahoo widget finally came up instantly. I think something is going on with the widget....hopefully someone is working on a fix for it.

Buy a Powerline AV network kit, which is more reliable than wireless. I have 4 port kit from WD, which serves network for my NX810, PS3, WD live hub.
Just checked the firmware version of TV and it's at 5.029. Interesting as Sony support site for 60NX810 only has 5.024 posted. Anybody know what the difference is?
I never knew about this I might get one or two

What's your opinion of it?

Been using a powerline adapter for a couple of years with my directv dvr. Works great
post #1548 of 6577
Received the 60NX810 yesterday, mixed feelings about it. I also have a Samsung 46A650 LCD and a Panasonic plasma 58S1 so I can make some early comparisons.

Aesthetically, this is really nice, even bettering the latest Samsungs IMO. Design-wise, no handles on the back, so it was a pain in the ass lifting this 60" panel with another person. The tv swivels a few degrees but I don't think it's supposed to.

Powering on, 1 red stuck pixel in the lower left hand quadrant (which isn't too shocking based on my experience with LCD panels, especially the early Sony PSP handheld). However, no clouding or flashlighting at all: tested this after tv on after a few hours, black screen at night, dynamic LED OFF. Not sure if worth exchanging as I read earlier in this thread those who exchanged either had the same problem or different problems; I cannot see the stuck pixel at regular distance (11 feet).

Still playing around with the motionflow settings, can't tell the difference btw Smooth and Standard mode. Motion feels weak with it off and I can sense a very light soap opera effect with motionflow on.

Blacks and sharpness are the strongest aspects of this tv IMO as blacks stay black during the day and evening even with all my lights on; my Panasonic looks terrible during the morning/afternoon and has dithering and a slight buzz (but Panasonic's latest VT25 use a single layer of glass similar to this tv). Blu-Ray movies look better than the plasma overall based on my lighting conditions, but live events like wrestling, sports are ok motion-wise.

Audio terrible as been said before, no bunchin stand for 60" Owners apparently. My plasma had really good speakers.

Colors feel off and didn't feel right at first, but after some adjusting, looks much better.

These LEDs are extremely bright like staring at the Sun, I have my backlight at 1 and feels about right and this is with the lights on in the room.

I'd rate this tv about an 8/10, but that could change after I've had the tv a bit longer.

Does sonystyle send the Blu-Rays by courier like UPS or FedEX or through regular mail? I just registered my tv today.

Just waiting and watching as the prices on the 55 and 60 slowly decline. Sooo bitter as I just want to pull the trigger, but I'm hoping the 60 continues to drop and i can get it in my budget range. The fact that waiting is saving me money is a nice relief, but man I need a new TV!

If you wait long enough sony will have new models out and you will want one of those when the price goes down

it's a fact that the price goes down every year..new model..new technology. the same cycle repeat itself....every new TV becomes old

They are going to have a new TV next year right? That's the one you want, but you want to wait for the price goes down...the following year..a new TV is better and you want that one...etc...eventually...you'll end up with no TV.

You took the words right out of my mouth!! I don't necessarily need a new tv, but I certainly do want one!! I presently I have a Samsung 46A550 that recently went through the well known issue of the capacitors on the power supply blowing out, resulting in the set unable to come on. I did get the problem fixed, but I've been drooling over the NX810 ever since the problem happened. I actually think I would get 55 inch version, but like you, if prices continue to drop a little more it definitely would make the purchase more in my budget range
post #1554 of 6577
yep, always bigger, better, badder, shinier, cheaper, etc... name of the game and why Sony and other parties are in business!

I've got the Amazon price app for my iPhone and the 55 and 60 have dropped/changed price twice today already. May be Xmas flux, who knows...

ive got an older Sony rear projection HDTV that had the problem with the tube going green on you... tired of watching green TV.

Will see what happens, but most likely going to pull the trigger next week.. just need that 60 to go down more so I can budget it.

Have to buy a TV before CES too.. then I will really want the next model!
I returned my 55" nx810 for a plasma(vt25). I was willing to take two chances to get a relatively uniform backlight but my 2nd set had 1 flashlighting corner and 3 clouds, the dynamic led did reduce the issue significantly, considering how severe the problem was. Anyway, this is not to discourage anybody from getting the TV because it is great but know that when you purchase you should consider the return policy seriously on this TV because imho, your rolling the dice.

Earlier when I was talking about how my set connected to the internet once, this is the version it downloaded. I was on the phone with Sony support today, and the guy insisted that .029AAS was a code and not the right firmware version (or something, I honestly couldn't understand what he was saying) after I pointed out that 29 was a higher number than 24. He insisted that 24 was the correct version, but it also sounded like he was looking things up on the public website so I'm inclined not to believe him. In any case they're having a technician come out and look so I'll post if there's a successful resolution to the no internet problem in case anyone else reading is having the same issue.

Color: 52
Hue: 0
Color Temperature: Warm 2
Sharpness: Min
Everything else: Off

Advanced Settings:
White Balance (this is the big one)
R-Gain:-8
G-Gain:0
B-Gain:-11
R-Bias:+5
G-Bias:-1
B-Bias:+6

Things I changed:
Color Temperature: Neutral (I personally dont like the yellowish tone)
Motionflow: Standard
Cinemotion: Auto 2
LED Dynamic Limited: Standard (I didn't like the clouding I was getting with it off. Blacks look even better and I haven't noticed any detail being lost)

This setting are for a darker room, I hope this helps some of you. I know how it felt looking for settings and not being able to find anything.

What did he set your gamma at?
After some further adjustments to the contrast and color settings, I can say I'm very pleased with the picture now, colors appear accurate without being too oversaturated and picture crisp. I decided to not exchange it even though it has a stuck pixel as the screen has no clouding/flashlighting whatsoever, not worth the risk of exchange IMO.
Hi I recently bought the 55nx810 from tigerdirect. I notice on middle left corner of the screen a small black smudge. I'm not sure if it is a dead pixel because it doesn't seem like it. And I try cleaning the screen but it didn't come off. It's not noticeable when the picture has color but when screen is white u can see it. Should I call for a replacement from tigerdirect and will they allow it?
SOOOOOOOOOOOO I'm back.

So my TV has cloading right. Theres a lot when the TV is in a Full black screen. But when local dimming is on you dont notice it at all. Now this is the only problem I have with the TV. No flashing, dead pixels, nothing.

Sonystyle said I can return it tomorrow for a new one no questions asked.

What do you guys think? Should I exchange it and risk getting a more messed up TV?
