Official Sony Bravia KDL NX810 owners' thread (60NX810, 55NX810, 46NX810) - Page 55

For those who use DirecTV with the NX810, anyone receive the following error message while attempting to view Egypt 3D from channel 105 n3d?:

"This 3D program is broadcast in 1080p/24. Your 3D TV does not support this resolution.(797)"

I've watched a number of other 3D programs from DirecTV but received the previous error message when attempting to watch the Egypt 3D showing.

You're right. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'll be of much help on that. The two pictures are close enought that without an opportunity to A/B them it's a matter of comparing an existing picture to a memory of a former one, and that is an extremely unreliable exercise.

Plus, the HX was ISF'd, and the NX has yet to be calibrated by an expert.

All that said, my sense is that the NX picture may be slightly more uniform, side to side, top to bottom, and its blacks seem maybe a bit better overall, on the same settings.

3D is next. Santa brought the kids a whole array of 3D Blu Ray discs--Open Season, Alice, Bolt, Deep Sea, Cloudy, Monsters and Aliens, Monsters Inc., Avatar. And I picked up, after ridiculous experiences with Sony Support, the filters that snap on to their glasses that supposedly help with head tilt issues.

So over the next few weeks we'll break those in and see what we see.

Next time my ISF guy comes into town, I'll do this set with him as well, and will post the results, as I did with the HX800.

Got my filters from Sony this past week. They definitely help with the head-tilt problem. Now when you tilt your head, the image stays clear but you lose the 3d effect. IMO, they should include these filters with the glasses by default.

Must of changed. Frys was listing it online for 19. Bought the xmiter and glasses for $19/$85 from the local store about 3 weeks ago.

Poor wording on my part. "as low as possible for your lighting conditions". 2-4 is a usable range for dark room. For day viewing, you will need to go higher. The higher settings start to impact the local dimming black levels.

Agreed. The light sensor would be useful if they allowed control of the upper and lower limits. Without technical details of what is happening it is difficult to consider.

I'm thinking of just getting a Samsung idk. The cloading bothers me a lot. Especially when the black bars are on top and bottom you can notice it.
This picture was taken while watching "A Christas Carol 3D" during a blacked out sceen during the flick. Now during 3D mode the Dynamic local diming feature CAN'T be turned on, so the cloading is noticable during all 3D movies.
What to do smh......

You have the exact same clouding as the 2nd set that I returned. You can definitely notice it when the dynamic LED off. If dynamic LED must be turned off on 3D then these sets need to have uniform backlights or it is defective imho. If it bothers you, you shouldn't settle, there are other options.

For some reason the 5 yr option doesn't appear to be available. Either way, if interested heres the link:

Thanks for the link! Bought the 4yr service plan. Technically it's 3 years only since TV itself comes with 1 year warranty. Still an excellent deal.

I have bought 3 Sony TVs over the years (13, 13, and 10) without service plans. Never had a single problems with them. But with today's TVs as complicated as it can be and issues mentioned here in this thread it's better to be safe than sorry.

If you pay with your credit card, you get an additional 1 year after manufacturing Credit card company offer extended warranty just before the end of the 2nd year if interested...you can add an extra 3 years for a very good pricing as well.

I was going to pick this up in a week or two on amazon. They had their current promo (free 3d kit and PS3) going until early February but noticed today they upped the price. It was listed as $2599.00 and now jumped up to $2896.00.

With all the issues with clouding I really have a hard time justifying $2900. Especially when I can pick up a Samsung UN55C8000, free 3D kit and free Samsung BD-C6900 BD player for only $2200!

Eeeeck, what to do, what to do. Amazon was the only Sony authorized retailer I saw with the $2599 price, they have all been at $2896 for some time so I question any changes coming soon.

Clouding, big black circles cause by a poor design make this TV a tough pill to swallow right now.

Thoughts?

It sounds like you pretty much answer your own question...get the Samsung

Go with your instinct....have fun with your Samsung

Yes, but my understanding is that they are not part of the Sony Retailer Network and therefore the warranty is worthless when you purchase from them. Too risky for me.

The Samsung is looking better and better. But I've heard the viewing angles suck goats, the blacks are blue'ish and the 24fps with movies is glitchy. Oh and the 3D PQ is subpar.

Yeah. Similar experience on my end. 25xbr for 12 years and a 41T for 10 and still going. Same thoughts as you and DCIFRTHS. Peace of mind and knowing they'll replace the thing or make good on it somehow sealed the deal for me.
Reading posters who've had TV's replaced helped make it an easy decision.

Is the issue with the dark circles still a problem?

I've seen some pretty gnarly pics of folks who took delivery and had these 1inch circles on their screen from screws pushing into the panel.

Just wondering if anyone has spoken to Amazon, Crutchfield or Sony about plans to fix the unit or packaging.

TigerDirect is considered one of their online Authorized Retailer.

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...Sony_Retailers

I hope you do realize that all LED have some sort of clouding... If you don't want clouding at all, then go with plasma.

Remember, they sell thousands and thousands of these TV...and you'll have some people who'll run into issues...just like any other company. No one is perfect. Check Samsung, Panasonic, Vizio, etc thread and you'll see people reporting problems some sort of another...

Does the pedestal on this TV have a hole in the back center that allows you to screw/bolt it down?

Wow. Good to know, I didn't think it was. Anyone have any experience with their return policy? What about shipping open boxes? I've heard JR has a habit of doing that.

It also looks like their back up to 2900 as well.

The Sony NX810 was rated higher than the Samsung C8000 in the 2010 HDTV Shootout, so I still believe it to be the better choice. I too have been planning on purchasing this television in the next week or two, and have also noticed the fluctuating price on Amazon. It does appear to alternate between the $2599 and $2896 price every few days, but I'm confident that by the time you plan on purchasing this television, you'll be able to get it for the lower price eventually.

I read some bad reviews about TigerDirect - not shipping them out for several weeks even though it's in stock - if you have issue, then you need to contact Sony.

I bought mine from Amazon as they have 30 days guarantee...ANY issues, call Amazon and they'll ship a new one out immediately. I bought a second set last week from Amazon since I was very happy with my first set.

I hope so! 2599 is much better. I also plan on selling my free PS3 on ebay (I already own the 320gb one and LOVE it, but dont need two.) I know 2599 isn't the best price folks have seen in recent months, but its do'able for me and I really prefer Sony since I've had great luck with them.

I agree...eventually the price shall fall....the question is when.

Keep in mind that the current free bundle expires 1/1/11 from Amazon. It's off and on...

I think the current bundle is good through February, per their site. That obviously doesn't protect price since we've seen it jump. But the ad says...,

"Buy a Qualifying Sony 3D HDTV, Get a Free PlayStation 3 and Deluxe 3D Starter Kit For a limited time, you can get a free Sony 160 GB PlayStation 3 and a deluxe 3D Starter Kit when you purchase a qualifying Sony NX810 LED 3D HDTV. Offer ends February 5, 2011. Restrictions apply. Learn more."

I sold my PS3 on craigslist...didn't want to deal with ebay paypal. I had it listed for 8 hours and received about 20+ emails about it just before Christmas. You shouldn't have problem in selling it.

the square part that hold the TV down has one TINY screw hole for you to use to strap it down...a 4MM size...way too small in my opinion. However, there are two screw hole on the near the bottom center of the TV that you can use with a 6MM screw to strap it down.

I just ordered this "Sanus Systems Elm701-B1 Elements Anti-Tip Strap" to strap it down against my TV stand.
