Official Sony Bravia KDL NX810 owners' thread (60NX810, 55NX810, 46NX810) - Page 108

Well my dark corners saga finally comes to and end

I called Sony Support and they walked me through resetting the TV (holding Up in the remote while pressing power on the set) followed by turning off the main power switch and unplugging the set for a min before turning it back on.

I followed the steps merely to humor the rep, but found that the shadows did get much better. After getting off the phone with the rep, I tried it again before going to work, this time leaving the set unplugged for about 9 hours while I was gone. When I turned the set back on, the corners were much, much better, but unfortunately still there. I'd say it was a 90% improvement.

I couldn't see them in normal programming or movies for the most part anymore, but every time I turned on the PS3 or played a game with light colors, I'd see them because of the mostly uniform background on the XMB.

I tried to not let it get to me, but I couldn't help it. And I didn't want to drop that kind of money on something that was going to annoy me until I got rid of it

Luckily I found a 55" locally at a nice discounted price so I picked that up and returned the 46". The 55" is PERFECT. Haven't seen any dead pixels or major clouding, but most of all the corners don't have shadows!

Since other people with 46" sets have confirmed they also have shadows, I think it's just an issue with that size. All the 55" sets I've seen (including the one I just bought) don't have the problem. Sony did offer to sent a repairman to fix the 46", but seeing as I was still within the return period, I decided to go that route instead.

Side note: Someone posted the dimensions of the 55" box as 53 1/2 X 33 1/2 X 8 1/2. It's actually 53 x 33 x 8 which just BARELY fit in the trunk of a 2010 Civic Sedan with the seats down. Guess no 60" for me without paying for delivery

Then they asked practical questions and then another guy asked me if there were 4 billion users in a file and there was one duplicate how would I find it. So I started laughing, not LOL but I wanted to know how you'd ever have 4 billion users. So, I told him I'd download the best search algorithm I could find and re-write the "diff" command. I didn't get the job. I found out later that this company was actually trying to profile me w/ "intelligence" questions. There's some formula you can use to find the dupe and they really wanted the number of times a clocks hands overlapped..anyway..let me know what the answer is. sorry to bore you all..

22 times a day. Purchased the 55" over the Holidays and absolutely love it, had friends over for the SuperBowl and they were blown away. I have been following this thread for weeks, it has been invaluable from a learning standpoint on the ins and outs of the TV, thanks to all for their stellar contributions.

Here is a question. Hopefully, someone ran into this problem.

My setup

PS3, CableBox via to Denon AVR889 and HDMI to TV. Works great no problem.

Added SUB550S stand to the tv as the sound was not great if not using the Denon receiver.

The TV still uses internal speakers and the Denon when I say external speakers. Seems like it sees the stand speakers as another audio system.

So I am stuck to use either Denon or the stand speakers. Is that correct?

Watched the BR version of Avatar for the first time on our 60" yesterday...

O. M. G.

I teared up, it was so freaking beautiful.

We usually sit from 8 to 12 feet from the screen, but yesterday, I pulled my recliner up to about 4-5 feet away to watch the last 30 mins or so. Man that is one impressive screen. Felt like sitting in the middle of an I-Max theater! Gonna try it with Master and Commander this weekend (not BR )... and maybe Star Wars... and maybe some Lord of the Rings tests... hmm... need more BR content...

Does anyone know how to remove old media servers, etc from the Video/Music selections? I have installed a few different DLNA servers to see which ones I liked and have uninstalled the ones I dont like but they still show up on the TV in the selections for Video and Music. Any suggestions?

Can u disable the internal speakers? I think there's an on off setting but don't remember. Other options might be Rip them out maybe or snip the wires.

The NX810 looks like a beautiful set. Do people feel it is better than the Samsung UNC8000 or the HX800?

Congrats on the tv. It's twice w/ the second hand. But if you ever have an interview w/ hertz, yu got a beat on the rest of the competition.

I compared the Sony KDL-55NX810 head-to-head with the Samsung UN55C8000, and liked the Sony better. It looked more "real", and the overall design was more appealing. Also seem to have slightly better blacks. The Sony HX800 looks a lot like the NX810 when it's on; but (IMO) the NX810 blows it away when off.

Of course once we decided to go 60", that sealed the deal (Samsung doesn't make any 3D 60"ers).

No, just the "normal" 2D BR version. Stunning. Even sitting close to the screen, I didn't see a bunch of little squares -- Sony has done an amazing job "smoothing" the pixels, while retaining detail and crispness.

Thanks I appreciate it. You might want to double check your math or your logic, definitely 22 times a day not 2.

w/o the second 22's right. W/ the second hand 2. So ask them w/ the second hand or without? and you'll get the job...the other one's harder but you can google it..4 billion numbers and theres one dupe. How do you find the dupe. There's an equation but I forget.

Thanks for the clarification, I am game fully employed all set there, enjoy your TV.

I do have a question, is there a way to lock the TV into accepting audio from external speakers. Every once in a while the TV switches back to internal speakers, not sure why?

Is anyone using the Sony Sony SS370 HTIB with their nx810? I am looking for an entry level HTIB and it seems this one may be nice to have with the Bravia sync capability.

I looked at this and it sounds great but I don't think it has a headphonejack and I don't think it will passs 3-d content if you need that so I got the 470 w/ bravia synch. Aside from the reciever turning on when the tv does, and the volume control, it really doesn't do much for me. It sounds great but so does the soundbars.

just pulled the trigger on the 55" from Amazon..!!
I called before I ordered to see If they would price match us-appliances offer
the guy I talked too said they would and told me to go ahead & order then call back so he could put a note in with my order about it..

order the TV, call back Amazon and get some other guy saying that they cant price-match the us-appliance deal because they cant put any info into us-appliances Shipping Information form because of security reasons blah blah blah... he says the 1st guy needs to be educated on price matching blah blah blah... FUUUUUU..!!!

cant remember the 1st guys name that I talked to... FUUU..!!
what do now guyz..?
Just strange that it is very difficult to find any professional reviews of the NX810. The same seems to be true for many Sony models. Seems like Samsung and Panasonic get most of the attention.

heh. heh. learn somethng new everday..Yeah but lots of happy buyers from usa, you have to be sure it's the TV you want. You're getting piece of mind w/ mazon but then you have to pay a premium for that. In order for them totake the risk of you "borrowing" the TV they need to build in some price protection. If yu bitch maybe amazon will match keep calling use FUUUU a lot.

You should always get a name and number when talking to a CSR about something like that.
Hate to tell you, but you're probably SOL.

Do not worry - there is always a smarter guy - just need to know who to call.

Call Amazon Large Item department directly (866)423-5355 - they will help.
First level support you get now will get you nowhere as those are mostly young, stupid and aggressive and can't decide anything for the lack of authority, but will suck all blood out of you with annoying "Sorry Sir, unfortunately blah - blah -blah ...".
This price match guarantee is official rules on Amazon for and a legal policy.
US-Appliance is on the list of vendors that Amazon recognize and must honor the Price Match - read more on Amazon, they actually do have that list. You just need to tell this to anyone who will try to feed you BS next time you call.
If you call to "LID's" - that is how they nickname this dept - they will take care of your problem. Just do not yell and scream - be polite and ask for help rather than complain right away. There are good people there, but if you are rude and obnoxious - you'll get that same attitude back at you.
Hope this helps.

That was the number/department that I called..!!
I was polite, calm and proper, but the 2nd guy was like "we cant match them because I cant put personal info into us-appliances shipping form to get the price you want us to match for security reasons blah blah blah.." not even fictitious info either i asked him..NOPE..!!

with the 1st guy, he just put me on hold for a minute to check it out and came back saying that they would indeed match the us-appliance price, but stupid me was to happy go lucky to take down the CSR name + number.. FUUUUUUUU..!!

thing is my TV hasn't even shipped yet, and Amazon's policy is to only do price matching up to 14 days after your TV ships.. so dunno why none of the CSR even mentioned that at all..??
I wonder if that 2nd guy put some note in next to my order to prevent any other CSR from trying to match us-appliances offer..
