I have set up my NX810 and I am extremely happy with my choice. (I did call SONY yesterday AM and got to talk with 2 Tech Reps and not sales reps. They said their personal choice would be the 810 over the 720.)

My NX810 is beautiful!!! ...even when it is off it is really cool.

Thank you everyone for a great Forum and helping me make a great purchase!
FYI: A refurbished 60NX810 is actually priced higher ($3,599.99) at the Sony Outlet website as of 8/3/11 compared to a brand new 60NX720 (currently "sale priced" at $3,149) at the Sony Store. There always has been and continues to be a premium paid for the 60NX810 for reasons still not completely known.

The 60" nx810 is a whole 'nother beast. Maybe 10 owners on here,.. Most own 55's and 46's..Those 3d issues you read of are by 55" posters and pretty hard core gamers.. Us 60" owners like our 3D. They didn't make a lot of the 60nx810's b/c it cost Sony a lot to make so the price point had to be high. I personally wouldn't trade the 810 for the 720, there's a reason for the price differential and a reason the refurbs are going for about 500.00 or so less than it did when new.

60NX810 owner. Love it. Even more than my Panny plasma.
Just out of curiosity...for all you guys who got this TV thru the sony exchange program(for defective SXRD's), what did you wind up doing for an extended warranty ?

I got the 5yr but they don't offer it any more w/ the 30% off. the 4yr is quite reasonable. Second post down from this thread DFRAN has a nice appendix of points of interest. One of them is a 30% off epp link that still works for warrranties. Some people have used that..check it out.

Is that link for the 30% off 4yr. Service Plan for any Sony TV, including 2011 models, or is it just for the NX810's?
When I originally obtained my 60NX810, the only way to get the 5 year warranty was from Sony Style.
Glad I have it, good for another 4.5 years.

But I did just check the 4 year online and 30% off is a great valule. That's cheap insurance for a $3k-$4K TV.

That explains it. When I got the email w/ that link It wouldn't work(the link).
So I called and processed the 5yr by phone. About a month later the link was active but w/ no 5 yr option. So, I posted it and a few posters reported success and were happy w/ the price. For some of the models it really is a no brainer.

I can't believe the 60" is still priced so high. Thought of getting one but still over 3K.
Sorry if this was already discussed but I searched the thread and couldn't find anything.

Problem #1: when streaming divx from my PC, quality is horrible! The resolution ranges from 480 to 720. It looks like the TV sets just zooms in instead of upconverting it. I have a 42" LG and it streams it much better. I see huge pixels.

Problem #2: I have comcast and currently using their Motorola DVR box. TV programs don't look very clear. Colors look a little dull and the picture isn't smooth (looks like there's a lot of noise). I tried playing with a lot of settings but can't seem to get it right. I've watched DVDs in SD that look just as good as TV programs in 720p. I live in philly also, could comcast just be streaming poor quality? My TV is about 10 feet away from my couch. Honestly my dad's BX traditional LCD sony looks better than mine.

Welcome back!. A person of your wealth and stature should own a 60.
Offer 2999.00 if you don't like round numbers. I'm going to wait for Obama to send me the 65"'er when it comes out and an I-phone. In case you didn't hear that's part of the new stimulus package that we'll be needing in October. It's brilliant really, the thought is if enough people have these I-phones and TV's the unemployed will write useful applications for these devices, companies will hire again, S&P will upgrade and ratchet up GDP.

What kind of tv do you have? Router?, Media server, etc. are you streamng wirelessly or are you using HDMI? How do blu-rays look? What your describing is atypical. People stream successfully and have great clarity regardless of box. Are you using HDMI or composite?. we need more info.

I have the nx810 55". Using a Dlink extreme 655 router. Media server is windows 7 and sharing through windows media player, streaming through LAN and wireless. My comcast is connected with HDMI. Watching divx in 480 vs dvd is almost night and day.

After few days living with 46NX810, I am still trying to make sense of some "features". The enclosed documentation and online guides are completely useless, any help greatly appreciated.

-USB. I have some music files, photos and video clips on a USB stick. I cannot find any entry in the Menu to show the USB stick and browse to these files. The user manual say: "you can play music, photos and video from a USB attached storage". Very smart useful information...

-3D. I don't have a BR to play the enclosed Alice 3D movie nor a broadcasted 3d channel on my cable. I found some Bravia 3d test files in YouTube and some other 3d videos in some of the internet applications Bravia has. However when using those internet apps, the 3D menu has only two options: "Off" and "Simulated 3D". (what is that 'simulated 3d' only sony knows). The question I have: is this tv able to play 3d content from internet (how??) ?

Thanks

I got a 5 year in-store warranty for my NX810, but here's the good part! If I do not use the warranty in its period, they will give me a full refund of the warranty cost.

If blu-ray/dvd is running good on the nx810. I'd check the router first. Search for dlink in these threads. There have been issues but different issues w/ that router. Like rebooting. If your in N mode only try mixed and see what happens. Why it all works on the LG and not the nx810?..the TV doesn't have to do any divx conversion does it? b/c if it does I don't think the 810 can do it. the LG might be able to. I'm just speculating.

Since a majority (>75%) of Canadians live in the Southern part of Canada; up close to the border, I'd say Americans who live in the upper states also live in Igloos? Naww

But yes, we do that here in Canada. Jealous? Of course you are, eh!

I lived in Buffalo for a while and spent much time in CD. It was great when the exchange rate was 33 %. It was a beauty. ey. Wow things have changed. U.S. history books teach us Canadians live in igloos . I'll never forget when the Quebec Nordiques were about to go defunct they held a rally and about 200 people showed up.

Pressing the Home button on the remote should bring up the XMB menu, where you'll see an icon for Music, Video, Photo etc. Each section should show an USB drive icon (scroll up and down using the remote), select the USB icon and just use the remote to browse the files on the USB drive.

Is it formatted fat32? if not, it won't work. If the format is not supported(there's a list on the support page at sonystyle), it won't work. Otherwise you should be able to stick the USB pen in and go.

Yes it can play 3d off the internet. It has to be 720p or better and again it has to be a supported format(there are mandatory formats and other) Sony doesn't support 720p SBS for example as it isn't a mandatory format.

Simulated 3d is when you take a 2d image flip the simulated 3d switch, put on the glasses(make sure they're turned on) and make believe its 3d. It does work but its not for everyone.

I've tried LAN connection also and quality is the same. I doubt the TV has to do a DIVX conversion. I just installed TVersity and will try to upconvert when streaming to see how that does. My LG is also a 42" vs a 55" so the pixels on the LG might be big but can't tell.

3D functionality for Internet Video

Thanks for help on the USB, it works, but I have to disagree with sbx007 here above. My experience show that 3D from enclosed internet apps does not work.

When watching BR or live TV, the screen can be set to one of the three setting under 3D menu: "side-by-side", "over-under" and "simulated 3d". The last one, "simulated 3D" is not real 3D, just some sort of thing to confuse people.
When watching Internet Video from one of the available applications, for instance You Tube, the only option showing under 3D menu is that "simulated 3D"
Even setting the screen to "side-by-side" or "over-under" before accessing Internet Video does not help. It will jump automatically to "simulated 3d" or "Off" once entering any internet application.

Do you guys have same experience?

Further, I used some other network devices (Boxee Box, AppleTv, Samsung BR player) connected via HDMI to the NX810. Then I played 3D content from some providers (YouTube, Vudu) using the internet applications available on these devices (caution: not the You Tube from NX810). It works just fine.

Conclusion: this is not good, you cannot see 3D content and you will not be able to rent a 3D movie from one of the streaming services Netflix, Amazon (when available) using the Internet Video capability provided inside NX810. You will always need to buy an additional box or player.

Standby Light Blinking 5 Times

This afternoon, while watching some cable on my 60NX810, the TV completely shut off and now the standby light is blinking five times, then pausing for 3 seconds, and repeating this cycle. I am unable to turn the TV on, and after turning off the TV with the power switch on the side of the TV, then unplugging it from the power source, the TV tried to turn on (got the green light), but it immediately shut back off and the blinking standby light started again. From what I can read from research online, this implies the following:

Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.

Fortunately we bought the TV in January, so everything is still under warranty. An authorized Sony service provider is going to come out and check out the TV, but I'm a bit nervous that this could become an ongoing problem or lead to other problems.

Has anyone ever dealt with this problem before? Any ideas what might be going on?

It might be bad power supply- any power surges?
I just noticed that Amazon has a new Sony 3D bundle (including The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader 3D Blu-Ray, two pair of TDG-BR250/B, and a charging cable) for a lot cheaper than the old Alice in Wonderland 3D bundle ever went for. These are the newer 2011 model 3D glasses.

Yes. Agreed. EVERYBODY knows that simulated 3d is Sonys way of confusing people. They want people to plunk down 2-5k on a TV so they can be confused. It serves no purpose other than to confuse people. What's the big deal it's free, and we all know it so what about it?

Not that I can remember, and definitely not at the time it went out. Still waiting to schedule a Sony technician to come fix--hopefully sooner rather than later.
