I don't think it's a waste to try if you've already paid them, from what I've read on other posts EnTech will give you an additional PIN for free if it doesn't work on your laptop. Maybe someone else can verify that.

Ok, I'll give it a shot!

No rush to actually get it working today. My glasses and adapter won't arrive until next week...

Back with an update. Registered PS with .reg file. Generated the .ini file. Emailed this to support to get my PIN emailed back. This is the correct procedure, right?

Back with more newb questions.

How do I put the PIN in to enable the EDID update? I think I have checked every menu possible, and don't see where to enter it. I'll re-read the thread to see if I have missed it, but if you know, feel free to post it.

When you register, Update EDID will be enabled on the drop down menu that's on lower left corner of optiobs/monitor info. Click on it and it will ask for Pin.

I got my TV working last night. My model is an HLT5687. I only have a PS3 as a source, but everything was very very smooth. Thanks again for the awesome find OP.

What will tru3d do now?

Thanks. I didn't notice that I have to scroll down to find the function.

I'll try an update later tonight and report back.

No luck for me. I open the service menu of my 67", select EDID ON, and choose "Update EDID" in PS. Enter my PIN, and it says "An EDID EEPROM was not detected on the selected monitor. Do you want to scan the bus for other EDID EEPROMs?" Choices are YES or NO. Clicking NO does nothing. YES gets me "An EDID EEPROM was not found."

Any thoughts for me?

Sounds like your video card doesn't support writing to EEPROMs, it's unfortunate but you'll have to try with another desktop, laptop, or video card. Search the board for compatible ones, you can always buy it and then return it after you're done!

Had the exactly same problem with my newer Radeon HD5770 card. Threw in an old nvidia 6600 card, boom! It worked! I had to install old card, send another ini file and wait for new pin.
did you guys try copying the ini file to the different computer and then using the original pin they gave you?

It won't work...the PINs are machine specific from what I can tell.

I don't think it will do any damage if you don't update, but the ext block coming out of the 3DA-1 will not be right. If you want to see what it does just check the moninfo report on the 3DA-1 input with the output connected to HDMI 3.

Where do you get the extension block from to flash it? That is the part I haven't understood. Also, mine seems to be working fine from just flashing the file that's in the main post of this thread so unless it drastically changes some settings or picture quality (which it does not appear to do), I'm not sure I want to chance on having it NOT work...it was quite a chore getting it to work correctly the first time; lol.

At least I know I didn't screw things up. I have a panasonic 3D BD player (with checkerboard output) and it still does 3D just fine on that port.

A procedure that on the face of it sounded pretty hard turned out to be pretty easy.

BTW, I used a RADEON HD2600XT with no issues.

Success and failure!

All the hardware fell into place today with the arrival of the 3DA-1. I first connected the 3DA-1 between the Directv HR24-500 and Pioneer HMDI 1.4 3D ready AVR. Output was gobblygook. I couldn't get the TV into 3D mode and the DVR was complaining that the TV was not 3D. Then, I connected the output of the 3DA-1 directly up to TV port 3. I could then get the TV into 3D mode but the DVR still wasn't buying it. At all times, when I could get something on the screen, it was massively pink.

Reset, reboot, rtfm. Then, I connected the 3DA-1 in between the AVR and the TV. After that, I tried my Panasonic 3D BD player in checkerboard output and the 3DA-1 passed the signal just fine. Although, it was massively red pushed. Then, I put the Panasonic player in side by side 3D mode. Again, the 3DA-1 worked as advertised. It sucessfully transmorphed the side by side into checkerboard square. Again, massively red pushed. 3D content looked ok and I think I can adjust most of the red push out. But this proved that the 3DA-1 works and that my EDID flash worked as well. I have to say, at this point, that the native checkerboard output of the Panasonic BD player was much better than the converted checkerboard output of the 3DA-1.

On to the HR24-500 DVR. I still could not get this to work. Even though I can get the TV into 3D mode, I can't get the DVR to recognize the TV as 3D ready. I have an HR21 I can try the 3DA-1 on. I'll try that in a few days. For me it's a royal pita to swap DVR receivers.

Any thoughts? Ideas?

Pioneer VSX-520-K Receiver
Panasonic DMP-BDT350 3D BD Player
DirecTV HR24-500

EDIT: Does DirecTV use side by side or top/bottom 3D?

Small update from me today. I have managed to install PS on another laptop. This one has an ATI Radeon x3100 so hopefully it will work better than the laptop with "Intel HD Graphics". The first positive sign that I see is that the "Advanced Timing options" tab is available, where it was not on the previous laptop. Hopefully that is the cause of the problem on my original laptop.

No HDMI out on this one,so, I need to pick up a VGA to DVI (or HDMI) adapter. One step closer.

I do have to say that the trials that others like bigsteve went through, and overcame, are keeping me positive. I know I will get this to work if I keep at it.

Tyrod,
Everything I've seen from Diretv is side-by-side. I don't have an HDMI receiver so I don't know what they do with the EDID. The 3DA-1 modifies the EDID from the TV so I think it should be connected directly to HDMI 3. In my experience once the 3DA-1 is connected to a compatible "mits" TV it will save that modified EDID, so maybe connecting it through the receiver did something funny to it. Here is what I've been doing to reset the 3DA-1.

1. Disconnect the power to the 3DA-1
2. Connect the 3DA-1 to HDMI 1 or 2
3. Reconnect power to the 3DA-1
4. Tune to channel 103(you will get the message saying the TV is not 3D)
5. Tune to a normal channel
6. Disconnect power to the 3DA-1
7. Connect the 3DA-1 to HDMI 3
8. Reconnect power to the 3DA-1
9. Tune to channel 103 and you should be able to get 3D

Try that with the HR24 connected directly to the 3DA-1 and see if that helps.

BigSteve82,
If your updated ext block is not posted it's probably because no one ever posted a stock one for me to modify.

PlumB, you da man! All problems solved. Even works through the receiver. I musta got the 3DA-1 stuck in some weird mode and it actually took Power Removed instead of just power off to fix.

I was able to flash my 67al750. I only used a text file with the updated edid. Should I create a new text file with both edid and ext block and update the hdmi port again?

PlumB you are a pimp for sharing this knowledge with all of us.

The ext block needs to be flashed separately anyway. Get the ext block from the first post and flash away again. It won't conflict with your first flash.

I am having trouble updating the EDID with my 5089S Sammy. I get error message telling me that either my EEPROM is write protected or the cable is simply too long. So far, I have tried four different HDMI cables, shortest one being 3 ft. So far, I have identified "EEPROM WP" as a possible feature. I have tried updating EDID with this feature both turned off and on. Any help is appreciated.

Ahh I think thats where I was confused. So you just flash them back to back the same way? I was thinking it would overwrite the first one.

You can only do 3D on port 3. If ya want 3D out of your Directv receiver yur gonna need a HDMI switch of some sort. Certified 1.4a HMDI switches are very expensive. For only a couple of strips of gold pressed latimum more, mosey on over to Newegg and get a new Pioneer receiver with HMDI 1.4a switch. I got a Pioneer with 3 HMDI in one HMDI out and all the advanced decoding (which you don't need) for $167.00 shipped. Granted, it's only a 5.1 receiver but thats all the speakers I have anyway.

Or conversely, you could just manually switch cables as needs arise.

It goes without saying you're gonna need to reflash your edid and get a 3DA-1.

There are no longer anything legally called an HDMI 1.4 switch. All that is needed is a swithc that will handle High Speed HDMI connections. See:

http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/tra..._logo_pub.aspx

Also DirecTV only supplies 3D content in HDMI 1.4a 1080i SbS format or in 720p TnB format.

Well yes, if you want to press symantics, just make sure the switch in question can pass 3D. I have a year old switch that was advertised as "high speed" and compatible with 1.3a. It won't pass 3D worth a doodley squat.

HL56A650 confirmed working! Same EDID and Extension Block HL50A650. Copy the updated EDID and Extension Block from post one and paste in two separate files using Notepad, add commas every two characters, ie: 00,B4,CD (no comma after the last character). Save each file as *.txt and Flash with Power Strip, EDID first and then Extension Block. Works immediatly! And saves you a lot of time and money!
Thanks!!!!

What Make/model switch do you have? If you got it over the internet can you provide a link to it?
Does it pass any HDMI 1.4a 3D content formats?
