Energy Take Classic or Speakercraft Monitor Three

Hi All,

I have a budget of about $600 for a set of 5.1 speakers (not including receiver) that will be installed in a room that is roughly 12' x 22'. The TV will be installed on the wall 12' from the couch.

I have read a lot positive things about the Energy 5.1 Take Classic set which is about $399 from Amazon.com. However, I also have a friend who can get me a discount on a SpeakerCraft set which includes (4) AIM Monitor Three bookshelf speakers, (1) AIM Monitor Three center channel and (1) Vital 120W 10" sub for $600. From what I can see, this appears to be a substantial discount as the retail value of the SpeakerCraft set comes up to around $2500.

Now I realize based on the $$ alone it should be an easy choice to go with the SpeakerCraft system. However, I have never heard SpeakerCraft speakers before and there are no retailers in my area who sell them. Most reviews I find online tend to talk about SpeakerCraft in-wall or in-ceiling speakers and not so much about bookshelf speakers.

So, I thought I'd ask here all since you're the pros. Thanks!

That's not really a fair fight. You're comparing a small satellite speaker with 3" woofer to a full size bookshelf speaker with a 6.5" woofer. The AIM speakers will win every time if they have a decent sound.

Plus Take 5 classics won't sound very good in a room that size. They're made for smaller rooms than 12' x 22'.

Just cause it has a high retail price does NOT equal quality. The HTIB's they sell out of the white vans have high $3,000 msrp/retail but they are worth like $50a

Energy Takes are a proven speaker set though you got a large room for them

I am personally not familiar with SpeakerCraft. There subwoofer specs are alittle overrated.

I agree it should not be a fair fight, in fact I am hoping the SpeakerCraft system blows the Energy system out of the water. Like crazyrob425 said, price does not always equal quality and since I do not know anything about SpeakerCraft bookshelf speakers I was hoping one of you could enlighten me. Thanks

I think I'm going to go with the SpeakerCraft system just based on other good reviews I have read. It seems like I am getting a heck of a deal for such a nice set. Thanks
