Hybrid Sleep Question

As per another thread, I recently replaced the nVidia video card on my system with an ATI card. One of the issues I dealt with was overscan settings not coming back property after either a reboot or sleep. ATI's driver 10.9a fixed that, but . . .

I don't know if this is something I hadn't noticed before, or if the ATI card starts displaying earlier, etc., but when my machine now comes back from hybrid sleep, it starts at the bios, does a quick black screen progress bar like when you're coming out of hibernation, and then appears at the desktop fully booted. I'm not sure how much, if any, of the process is the system stored in memory, as opposed to on disc. Before it seemed more like it simply turned back on with the desktop suddenly appearing.

Is what I'm seeing now something that is normal?

It sound more like it's going into to hibernate not hybrid sleep, that would only be normal if you had a loss of power while you were in hybrid sleep. Check that your power settings has allow hybrid sleep set to yes and hibernate set to never if all you want is hybrid sleep.

All the setting were correct, but I think what I was seeing was they awaking from memory failing and it falling back to the stored disc version.

It started doing this after installing an ATI card, so I went and bought a new nVidia card and the problem is seemingly solved.

I looked it up, and 5 years ago I was referring to ATI's monthly release of drivers as a "rolling beta" program. Apparently it still is.
