Zack Snyder to direct next Superman movie: Man of Steel - Page 7

Well if it is colored the way most films are these days, we will have to end up calling it MAN OF TEAL.

Latest trailer:

This time the music looks like a mix of gladiatorian female soprano and a bit of Elizabeth The Golden Age. Can't wait to hear the actual music from Zimmer... Film still looks promising smile.gif

Man of Teal
Tree of Steel
The Thin Red Cape

Funny. Keep 'em coming.

Morpheo, thanks for the trailer link. It's apparent Superman never had enough Batman-style angst to suit modern audiences but that's soon to be remedied.

I gotta say, it's mighty funny to see Supes impersonating "Neo" impersonating Supes.

Thanks for that!

Now I'm really looking forward to seeing this.

I think there's still a place for lighter fare, even in the superhero genre. Avengers and a few of its individual hero film precedents (Captain America) are good examples, and it's still possible to succeed with that fun tone as long as it avoids corniness and stays a bit self-aware.

Didn't give me goosebumps, but didn't put me off like the teaser did. Still cautiously optimistic.

The new trailer has peeked my interest for this movie. I've never been totally won over by the depiction of Supes in the movies so far - far too campy for my taste. But it looks like the tag team of Nolan brothers and the gritty visual style of Zack Snyder may do to the Supes franchise what Chris Nolan did to the Batman franchise. The cast list is loaded with my personal favs. Absolutely looking forward to this one now.

Embedding the trailer, for convenience. smile.gif Thanks Closet Geek for opening this thread.

I'm pretty excited about this one too and it seems like it's taken forever just to get to this point! I really enjoy(ed) Reeves first two offerings and actually felt Superman Returns was better than its reviews. But this one seems to offer more edge, which will be a nice change for the franchise. Likewise, I'm really liking the cast and feel good about the expectation.

I had my doubts at first but after seeing the trailer I'm looking forward to it now.

I've been a Superman movie and TV show fan for a long time, but I never felt like they ever got both sides of the character right. I'm not a fan of campy Clark like Reeves and Routh. Actually, my favourite Clark has been Dean Cain in Lois and Clark The New Adventures of Superman. They took the campiness away, but still gave him the same dilemmas. However, with the cape on, Cain just didn't have the presence to be Superman like Reeves and Routh. Both of those guys look like they can handle business when trouble starts. Henry Cavill looks like he's got it covered on both sides, which makes me very excited to see this movie. I hope it's not all dark and brooding because that's the only thing people seem to respond to. I'm hoping they can strike an awesome balance and deliver the best Supes movie to date.

Another Superman origin story? Really? Sigh.

We know his origin well enough by now. Get on with the story already.

We do know it, but there's an entire generation of people who have not seen a proper Superman film and don't know the complete story.

THIS is one of the reason Avengers worked so well. Everyone knew most if not all of the players involved. We dont need another Batman, Superman, Spiderman Origin story at all. Not for another 10 years min.

The last one wasn't an origin story and look how that turned out.
I agree that another Superman origin story would not be a good idea. Look at what that sort of thing did to the Spiderman reboot. Even the very talented Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone couldn't save that one. I guess I am in the minority but I loved Superman Returns and thought it was vastly superior to the Spiderman reboot.

One thing that concerns me about Man of Steel is that Amy Adams, who plays Lois Lane and is a fine actress, is still 9 years older that Henry Cavill, who plays Superman. I suppose the age difference could be made to work but for it to do so the Superman legend would have to be substantially modified, it seems to me.

Wow, that trailer was subtle on the Jesus analogy, wasn't it lol.

Superman Returns devoted a significant amount of screen time to retelling Superman's origin in flashbacks.

The movie was so deadly dull, you probably fell asleep through those parts. smile.gif

Superman returns should have been a better film.

Right. I'm not a huge fan of Superman in general but I thought the last movie, Superman Returns, had several redeeming things. I was talking with my dad about it (who loves Superman) and we both agreed it's time to dump the Lois Lane angle. That's what I think and I thought all that stuff really dragged SR down.
Wasn't because of Lois as a character; the plotline that she had a fiancé and a kid, and the kid was superboy... that was just dumb to go there for a reboot/sort-a-sequel. Right use of the donnerverse, but a dumb/boring story was told using it.

Take a good story, make a trilogy, sprinkle some donnerverse (like the way the bond films are) and we'd be on business.

Oh, and put the freakin red panties back on. smile.gif

Recently I added this poster to my collection.

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 90

I started collecting movie posters in the early 80's and have over 200 now. Not sure what scene in the movie is depicted here - and don't want to know - will try avoid spoilers (and critic reviews) until I see it. Summer is quickly approaching...

Zack Snyder’s bold reinvention of the world’s best-known superhero is undoubtedly one of the most exciting blockbusters of the year.

We talk in-depth with director Snyder, producer Deborah Snyder, writer David S. Goyer and stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Michael Shannon.

You can read the full feature inside issue 205, but here’s a taster of what Zack Snyder and Cavill had to say about their approach to the all-new epic.

“We’ve tried to make a Superman movie where he does stuff and you go, ‘Yeah, if I was Superman, that’s what I’d do,’” Zack Snyder told us. “Even though he’s an alien, he’s more relatable, more human.”

Or as leading man/alien Henry Cavill put it, “This is a Superman for a modern age. It’s not betraying anything that Superman is, but it is grounding everything in reality. It’s the story of this incredible being who can do incredible things, but whom we can associate with. Because he’s gone through troubling stuff and had to make tough choices…”

Man Of Steel opens in the UK on 14 June 2013.

For much more on Man Of Steel, pick up the brand-new issue 205 of Total Film magazine, which is on sale now.

Wow, 200? What do you do with them all if you don't mind my asking?

I display 4 posters in my home theater room - at one time I displayed 8 but down-sized and gave most of the poster frames away. I collect US movie posters and UK quads. I store them away in home-made storage boxes - laid flat not rolled up. Many I buy because they are works of art and others because of an interest in the movie. It's a niche hobby for HT enthusiasts. In the 80's and 90's the posters were mail-ordered but with the advent of the internet all that changed.
