They had to manually change the price at check-out, but were happy to do so considering there was a sign at the display rack that read "My Bloody Valentine 3D - $9.99").

YMMV.

And if this is the case your best buy people are idiots and you made out..Wait a second ..Best buy people = idiots ..Yup you made out...

Valentine's just around the corner.

Time to give this disc a second life.

Hey guys,

I just rented BV this weekend and I'm running into some similar issues which I posted about in the 3D source components section: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1311339

From the initial post:

Here's my current setup:

Mitsu 82738
3DC-1000 adapter
Panny BDT350
Denon AVR1611

I recently picked up the Denon receiver and have since had a hard time getting the 3D picture to display correctly when playing 3D BR movies. Prior to owning the receiver I had the following configuration with a perfect 3D picture:

TV>3D adapter>Panny

My configuration now is:

TV>3D adapter>Denon AVR>Panny

I've tried what seems every picture (i.e. side by side, checkerboard, reverse, normal, etc.) and connection configuration but at this point I can't get a clear 3D picture like I used to. Any advice?

You do not need the adapter with that player. Leave out the adapter and change the 3D output on the player to Checkerboard and you should be good to go.

I purchased the disc today from Amazon. I want to watch it on Valentine's Day.

Really? I was unaware of that. I did get it to work last night with the Panasonic sample disc which came with the player though with my current setup. Not sure why it worked all of a sudden with that disc but as soon as I put BV back in, I was back to ghosting. I'll make the change on the BP too. Thx.

I am not sure about your Denon, but I had to turn off video proccessing on my Onkyo to take away ghosting. My older Onkyo did not present ghosting, but my new one caused it until I turned off the video proccessing.

You sure it's the right one? It is still a Best Buy exclusive.

Its still pretty expensive even through amazon

This is being re-released in the UK on 7 March and is listed at Amazon as 'MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D', which indicates it may - I repeat may! - be a full HD 3-D version (unlike the earlier anaglyph travesty):

See listing here

Unfortunately, details at that link are vague to the point of being unhelpful, though I can't see any other reason for such a quick re-release of this title if they were just going to reiterate the earlier BR edition...

My copy got delivered today! All in all, USD31.67. Will reserve to watch it on Valentine's.

I have this, unquestionably the right one, bought at Best Buy a couple months ago. Opened, viewed once (well, maybe it will be twice before I part with it).

Sale or trade, best offer. Good trade candidates would be Coraline or Bolt. Not Cloudy, Christmas Carol, Grand Canyon, or Wild Ocean...already have those.

Can anybody let me know if the actual disc itself as the Blu-ray 3D logo on it? I ordered this (the real $35 version from BB online) and the case is for the real "Blu-ray 3D" version, but the disc has no logo on it. Also, when I select "play 3D version" on the disc, it plays the crappy anaglyph version. I'm thinking somebody returned this with the wrong disc as a scam or it was a mess up at the factory. Thanks!

Yes, the disc has the logo on it. It also has the requirements to play warning on it as well.

Thank you, guess somebody really wanted it for $9 and returned it knowing Best Buy wouldn't pick up on it.

Finally saw the film. Lots of dual image ghosting. Not worth the $31 I spent. It would be so worth it at less than $25.

Great story. Starts out really fast. Within first 10 minutes, people are dying. Have not really seen half of the film because I'm looking away coz I don't want to get shocked. My Klipsch in wall set up does not help me one bit and is largely cause of mini cardiac arrests. Needless to say, it's a symphony of suspense! I'll enjoy my second viewing.

Which TV do you have? I didn't notice any ghosting on my Mits 60738.

i have this, watched it once...wife doesnt like scary movies...so i am open to trade offers....any? pm me

UK viewers unable to access the US Best Buy exclusive on this title can relax - it looks like the new BR version being released in Blighty on 7 March WILL be the HD 3-D version, as confirmed by a note which appeared today at the BBFC website:

MY BLOODY VALENTINE [3D stereoscopic] at BBFC

It has been passed uncut (natch) with a running time of 101 minutes.

And a link to the Amazon page, which confirms it:

@rjbrooks, I have the Panni VT20. Good for you if there's no ghosting. I guess hardware plays a part in 3D viewing.

Watched this last night on Mits 73833. Very good 3D experience. Good depth throughout and good use of pop out as well. I did see two brief moments of ghosting, which I had not yet experienced on my Mits. Definitely recommend. B+/A- as a 3D movie.

Just wanted to let people know this title is currently $15.99 at Frys for this week (until 7-28). This title has always been inexplicably locked at $35.00 and above at BB and Amazon. As for Price-Matching, there might be a possibility to PM this title at Best Buy and even take an additional discount off (YMMV).

I'm going to pick it up myself. I saw a clip in 3D before and kind of enjoyed it.

I'll admit I sometimes do the same on these scary movies. I avert my eyes because some of the jump scares are loud and shocking.

There's an unexpected and loud one in Shaun of the Dead (unexpected because the movie had such a comedic tone) that made me grab my chest.

As an update, I recently saw this and I have to say I really enjoyed it. If we were doing Tiers, I'd probably say it's Tier 1.
I watched this together with Drive Angry 3D (same director and writer) and liked the over-the-top gore and corniness of MBV a lot more, and I thought the 3D was better too.

It tries a few pop out moments but what was more memorable was the setting of atmospheric mood. The 3D really enhanced the feelings of the creepy interiors (the supermarket, the dark alleyways and snaking mine shafts, the inside of a house with a lurking killer). As the review for this said, it's the simple mundane shots that actually end up impressing you more, not necessarily the in-your-face moments.

It's not perfect. There's some ghosting and inconsistencies where one shot looks realistic and the next shot is completely flat without any 3D effect. But for the first official R-rated horror movie shown in Real D, My Bloody Valentine a pretty good effort.
I might even check out the original 80s version some time.

Bold my emphasis.

Sorry for responding to a somewhat old post, even if the thread is fresh overall, especially since I watched this BD a month ago or so (vice "today").

The part I bolded - funnily enough, I find horror movies to be the one genre I am most able to watch, um pardon the pun, in gory detail, because I know it is fake, and I am amused at how much realism the film-makers can put into such scenes.

MBV is certainly a good hacker-slasher movie, with appropriate gratuitous nudity and violence, with no real moral or lesson to be learned (other than "run faster than everyone else").

Lots of fun with the brain turned off.

IMHO,

shinksma

Hey everyone,

I just purchased my first 3D TV Mit 73838 so I'm still trying to get up to speed on the whole 3D thing. This may be a dumb question but I already own MBV 3D so with my new tv do I use my 2100AB glasses or the Red/Blue ones that came with the disc ? I'm waiting on my new emitter to arrive tomorrow so I can try out the 3D.

Thanks,

Michael
pretty sure that your new glasses won't work on that red/blue 3D movie. If you check the fine print it'll probably mention something about "no 3D tv required."
