So you were having this issue where the lamp goes out, the fan spins up and the Replace Lamp light flashes? And you're on your third projector? Yikes. I don't suppose the warranty resets to two years with the replacement projectors.
I called Epson earlier today, and they're going to send out yet another bulb. I told them that I thought it was really unlikely that this new lamp would cause this failure after only a few hours of usage. The first bulb went 120 hours or so before this started happening, and the frequency of failures increased over the next 20 hours, up to the point where I could go barely over two hours (with the new bulb) before it shut itself down. To recap, I got the new bulb on August 27th, watched Jaws on the 28th, then didn't fire up the projector again until September 2nd, and was only able to run the projector for 15 minutes before it shut down the lamp.
At least I convinced Epson to send the new new lamp via 2-day delivery. They wanted to send it out ground like they did the last lamp. I told them I didn't want to wait another week for the new lamp, especially since I'm 99% sure a new lamp won't fix the problem. The guy I spoke to said they'd had issues with a big batch of lamps and that it was possible they'd sent one from the bad batch last week. What? If there's a bad batch why weren't they all sent to a landfill? The vaunted Epson customer service isn't showing me much.
These problems are really harshing my buzz for this $2000 projector. We had a guest over on Sunday to watch that movie, and the projector crapped out after 15 minutes. I might have been able to power cycle the projector like I've done before, but who knows whether it would have crapped out again during the movie? We just watched the rest of the movie on our 46" TV. I never had any problems with my InFocus IN72. Too bad I sold it a few months ago.
