Hi,

I am already running a tw700[=810 here.. I think] 96X54" image from 21 ft away at a shelf on the back wall..
Will the 8700 accomodate this ? I dont plan to do major mods.. I know the 8500 can.. If indeed it can might consider this..

Just got it hooked up. Of course, since mine is a living room setup, I can't completely control ambient light.

I just hooked up the PS3 (it's been in storage) and used its browser to go straight to it.

went to the site- maybe its just me, but they dont look vertical- more jagged/offset to me- maybe its just the lcd screen..

I have no idea. They seem usable to me. You can click on them to make them larger if needed.

There's tons of other sites, though. Just use google images for "pixel convergence pattern".

Anyone done any gaming on it yet? It's really hard to pass up this deal with AVS. I'm sort of torn between the 8350 and the 8700 with the free lamp.

Ok...y'all confused me, how do you order through this site to have it checked out , is this a premium thing or just something the owners are doing for us. Please let me know, I was pulling the trigger on a panasonic v10 but then got intrigued with the panasonic and now have finally ended up on the 8700 ub.....I frankly do not have any experience with projectors and so even the reviews are not helping alot.....the panasonic actually sounds like the best machine but if the service sucks that bad then all things being almost equal it sounds like Epsom wins.....the bulbs seem to be at least 75.00 cheaper too, I also like th idea of having an extra bulb from the start which makes it only a 100 more than the 8500. So anyway please email me with instructions on how to order through here and how much longer it would take, extra cost etc, seems like around 2150 is what I am seeing else where mercury7@gmail.com

Btw, I am going to need a inexpensive motorized screen, open to suggestions,

I am assuming that its specs [throw distance/zoom combo] is exactly the same with the 8500, I would like to know more..
Similarly, I was taken by the ae4k too but since I am using the older epson 810 now[which incidentally has performed flawlessly for the past 4yrs] and the good deal offered here, am now smitten by the 8700..

Hey I am trying to set up my projector on a stand until Its mounted to the ceiling and I have no idea how to fix the trapezoid effect. Its skinny on the bottom and wider on the top, its not that noticeable but some light leaks out from the top, does anyone know where the Keystone settings are? Can I access it from the settings menu? If anyone knows how to get rid of the trapezoid effect please let me know!

You projector must perpendicular to the screen, i.e. parallel with the floor. Presuming your screen/wall is plumb, use a level and make the projector completely level. Next uses the lens shift knob to "lower" the picture on to the screen. Use horiztional to tweak it left/right.

Keystone indicates the projector is tilted up/down which it shouldn't be. Use lens shift to get the image centered on the screen.

so those pics- look to be 2.35 ish....the 8700 do 2.35 just fine? what about if you have a 16:9 movie?

I'm using a 2.35:1 screen. I use side masking for 16:9 movies, and manually zoom in or out depending on the format of the movie. Is that what you're asking?

Just curious, for those who have the 8700, do you see much of a brightness difference between dynamic and living room? I can't say I see much if any difference, maybe a bit of color shift but that is about it (now that I think of it I will have to double check my color temp setting between the 2).

Also, I guess that the "brilliant color" option Art talked about in the 8500 review has been removed from the 8700.

I got about 20 or so hours on the bulb now I will see if I can get my colorimeter setup and take some out of the box grayscale measurments to post.

I haven't messed with Dynamic or Living Room yet, so I can't say.

As far as the Brilliant Color thing, I'm wondering if that was a misprint of sorts since that has been an option on Benq projectors and not Epson (not that I know of, anyway).

#2 Also, with the "wide" format screen- do you feel you lose any size when going to 16:9

#3 in general, can you "stretch most movies to "wide" or do they specifically have to be made like that.

Based on your experience having to manually zoom instead of just hitting a button (Panny4K), do you feel that having to manually zoom represents a substantial inconvenience?

Cleatus - By going with a 2.35:1 screen, you will in fact lose size when you have to zoom it in to a 16:9 image. Think about it...the height of the screen isn't going to change, so whatever the viewable image measurement of the height is, that's your maximum height for a 16:9 image. Typically a 100" 2.35:1 screen means you'll have around an 82" (diagonal) 16:9 screen. So, yes, you'll lose size on the 16:9 image by using a 2.35:1 screen. I watch far more 2.35:1 movies, so I chose that format for a screen.

You're not "stretching" the image with either projector. You're simply zooming and focusing the projector's image to fit within the screen based on what movie format you're watching at the time. The Panasonic just does it automatically, rather than manually like the Epson. Same end results.

Mundis - I'm not a big fan of the lens adjustment of the Epson. It could definitely be better, but it's not enough to keep me from liking the projector overall. I based my decision off reviews (all I could do), and decided to go with the 8700 and the free bulb. The auto zoom memory feature on the Panasonic would be nice, but I went with the slightly brighter projector with a free bulb offer, just dealing with having to reach up and manually adjust the image. The very well thought off Epson customer service didn't hurt, either. An overnight replacement program could come in really handy.

would I need an external anamorphic lens to get to 2.35 on this projector?

thanks for your explinations sb1- it really does help. What physically do you do to change between "modes"- is a quick, simple deal, or time consuming, re centering pain?

I was planning on getiing a 5x12 sheet of laminate for the screen and making the largest 2.35 wide srceeen I could (not sure on the exact size it needs to be cut to). so hopefully, the projector will fill it fine.

No. But, the 2.35:1 image is displayed like any other television or projector, meaning black bars on the top and bottom. By using a 2.35:1 screen, the black bars are displayed outside the frame of the screen, so there's nothing but the image on the screen material. If you use a 16:9 screen, you'll have bars on the top and bottom like normal. With a 2.35:1 screen, it's much easier to make masking panels for the sides, as opposed to making masking panals to cover the black bars on the top and bottom of a 16:9 screen.

Well, it's certainly not something I sit here at work and daydream about doing because it's so much fun, but it's not that bad. In the grand scheme of things it's probably taking about 30 seconds or so to do.

I posted about the lens shift controls in an 8350 thread (being sloppy), but actually my biggest complaint is trying to focus. The focus ring works like any other, but the menu text isn't that big so it's hard to see. You can put up a pattern from the remote, but it's only a couple of pixels wide so it's the same scenario. Not a deal breaker, but could be easier. My last projector had much bigger menu text which made it simple.

I do love the image I'm getting though, and I'm just using a temporary blackout cloth screen.
