Go to Epson's website, they have a section for promotions and one of the options is to check the status of your rebate. I filled out the info online first and then sent in the required items. Got an email that they received the items 13 days after I mailed it in. Did you include an email address to be contacted?

I think I have had enough of the epson. Anyone want to give me advice on what I should ask for my refurb that is coming tomorrow?

It's the 8700ub.

Thanks for the reply. I did go to their web site and check on the status, but based on the information entered it didn't find anything. Also, I did give them an email address when I mailed the forms in.

I sent them an email asking what to do. We shall see....

if anyone is willing to walk me through calibration i would appreciate it. i love the picture but thx is a little dim for me and i pretty much keep it on dynamic. i burned the avs rec calibration disk to cdrom but don't know where to start.

also, it's mounted 10' from the screen, if i move it back will it be brighter? I read somewhere about zoom affecting the picture

When watching the THX Mode are you watching with the lights off..
I also thought the THX Mode was a little dim...

I will post later my thx mode since calibrating ,
Dont take these as bible but it will get you close so you can continue with minor adjustments for your setting and screen....

I'm getting ready to upgrade from our 5-year old Yamaha LPX-510 to a new full 1080p projector.

I was thinking of an Epson 8350, 8500 or 8700, but with all the hassles people seem to be having with lamps, returns, blobs, etc., I think I will avoid Epson.

I want a projector I can use, not one that is continually needing maintenence or replacement.

The Yamaha is still on it's original lamp with over 3,000 hours. Never a hiccup and it's been set up in 4 different houses from Texas to Colorado.

fraisa yes movies are in pitch black

if i turn it on and its already in dynamic, going to thx seems a little dim. if i turn it on and its in thx already before i see dynamic im ok. i'm sure thx is still plenty bright and looks outstanding but to me dynamic looks much better.

if i calibrate then technically its not thx anymore right? or do i save it as a user setting and leave thx where it is?

I hear you man. I have had Epson since the 1080 and never until the 8500 had problems. It throws and awesome picture but I just hate the string of bad luck I have had with it.

Technically you are adjusting from the set THX Mode...
But i for one dont like the set mode and do find it to dim

Here is my mode

THX
Brightness is -1
Contrast 1
Colour Sat -2
Tint -1
Sharpness -2
Power Consumption Normal
Auto Iris Off
Advanced
Gamma 2.3
RGB .....1,-1,-1,0,-1,-2
Super Res 1
Colour Gamut SPTE-C

that should get you close ....
Let me know

It's the 8700ub.
According to Epson customer service the warranty is not transferable. Most people who know anything at all about Epson's projectors aren't likely to buy one without a warranty.

I think I'm going 3D with the RS40. So I guess i can toss the 8700. Lesson learned. Lol.

And I'm sure there are a number of us that won't buy an Epson even WITH a warranty.

I think I will save my pennies for a couple of extra months and spring for the JVC DLA-HD250

Yeah, the 8700ub is new enough that all replacements will be brand new units for a while. Also, refurb'ed units would come in a plain brown cardboard box.

Well I'm hoping for 1500. Hope I can get it. Seems cheap enough.

Its because of my Screen....
What screen do you have again?
Just plugged in my 8700 and put on a Blu Ray. You can especially see the problem when it's a black screen (which is to say, a darker scene). For lack of a better term, a horizontal bar flashes across the screen and seems to move from top to bottom. In other words, it will flash across the bottom 3rd of the screen, then about the middle and finally toward the top of the screen. Then it starts all over.
The picture looks great, but this is driving me crazy. Once again, the best way to describe the "bar" is to say that it looks like "snow" (TV static).

Any thoughts?

Received my Epson 8700ub yesterday. I watched a bluray last night without touching any of the settings. I projected on to an old, wrinkly beige bed sheet because my screen is not in yet. I was blown away. This is my first projector, but the picture still looked better than I expected. It looked like my calibrated panasonic plasma tv, except 3 times the size. Nice!
Does anyone have suggestions on what settings to turn off or on on this projector. I am a newb and would love suggestions. Iris, Interpolation, 4:4 pulldown, extended color range, etc.?

I tried hooking up my new 8700 today. Unfortunately, it looks like my long (30') dvi-hdmi run from my Outlaw 990 to the Epson is a no go. I get a 'Not Supported' message on the screen. As a test I moved the projector right next to the equipment and ran a short run (6') of hdmi-hdmi straight from the blu-ray player to the 8700. That works fine. However, I need to be able use the long run. I never had this issue with a Panasonic PT-AE900U. I'm guessing a long run is not in the cards with the Epson. I can't think of anything else to do other than return it. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks.

Would think that your DVI - HDMI combo run is the problem...
Will say this i have a 40 Foot HDMI Cable running with No Issues...
You may want to look at a straight HDMI Run...
Thanks for the reply. I did try hooking up the long run straight from the blu-ray player to the projector. All it did was flash pretty colors. I guess I can get a long hdmi-hdmi cable and see if that works. Man, I hate troubleshootin'. I just want stuff to work.
