Jason Statham with a Gun....please stop doing this.

I must admit, I am not a big Statham fan. Maybe the English just think he's the best thing since toast and tea, I couldn't say. I don't hate the guy, but I just don't think he's as much as a powerhouse super action actor as others. The only films that I enjoy him in is Crank and Crank 2.

I've noticed something that has been getting under my skin, and I would just like to get it out on the table. Call this a rant, but it also can be a good observation: Jason Stathham has a gun in just about every damn movie cover, and it really has a negative impact on my viewing of his movies. I LOVE guns, but the problem here is simply marketing redundancy. All in chronological order:

Jason Statham with two guns.

Jason Statham with a gun.

Jason Statham back with two guns.

Jason Satham back with a gun.

Jason Statham with another gun.

I almost cannot believe my eyes with this cover. Can you believe he does not have a handgun? That's not to say that nothing else is redundant though...

Almost had you fooled, huh? He is back with two guns.

This time, they decide to point the gun your FACE!

So, do you expect to see any more movie covers with Statham with a gun? Can you not get anymore stock?!?! I bet that all of these movies (besides Crank) are the same. Do the English think he is really that bad ass?

/end rant. Now, let the flames come in

Cellular Ha, Ha, Ha!

You reminded me of this classic. It is so bad in some parts that it reaches greatness, especially when our hero goes into a Best Buy armed with a handgun to charge his cell phone. The ensuing terribly delivered and downright insipid dialogue is just fantastic.

There some things in life I will never understand....

The fixation on the cover of boxes, rather than its content.

There are people around who have said they will NOT buy a video because of a dislike for the cover "art."

I think I am getting too old....

I became a Jason Statham fan with The Transporter. He's had his ups and downs, but generally delivers a solid performance in roles within his acting range. He was quite good in The Bank Job.

I don't really pay attention to box covers either. Those are devised by marketers trying to catch your eye on a shelf, rather than by the creative team behind the movie. They really have no relationship to the quality of the enclosed movie.

He didn't have a gun on "In the Name of the King" cover...

Or (insert 20 other Jason Statham movies here): Expendables, The Mechanic, 13 (although there is a gun on the cover), Death Race, War, Revolver (someone else is holding the gun), etc.

I too don't get obsession with cover art and packaging. The only "art" I dislike seeing is the plain grey "rental" version that Netflix sends me, because I know I don't even have chapters on that disc, let alone any kindof features.

No gun here.

And he didn't play the lead role in that one. Same logic applies with MOST of his other movies that don't have him with a gun on the cover. Deathrace he doesn't have a gun, but that doesn't involve shooting. In The Name of The King is a terrible movie, but it's before the time of guns (I got the joke). The Expendables cover he is in the background (probably with a gun, can't tell), but he is not really the lead role in that movie either (comparatively speaking).

Seriously, if he plays a lead role that involves shooting, you can bet there will be Jason Statham on the cover with either one or two handguns. Can they at-least mix it up a bit and give him an assault riffle or a knife or something?

Who wants to make a bet that it happens again? Any takers? If Crank 3 or Transporter 4 comes out, you will surely lose this bet.

Steven Seagal Comparison:

Barely visible handgun. More emphasis on Seagal face and his bad ass Aikido.

A sword, that is used for slicing when you are bad ass in Aikido.

A Pump shotgun, something that you would expect to see an officer use.

Seagal with a handgun.

No need for any weapon here.

Seagal with a handgun.

No need for any weapon here.

Another variant of a pump shotgun.

See, my point is, vary it up a bit.

Seagal with a guitar.

What is funny with Seagal though, is that he only play four type of characters.

FBI agent, police officer, CIA Agent, Navy Seal.

Ohh, I forgot.

Ex FBI agent, Ex police officer, Ex CIA Agent, Ex. Navy Seal
