Epson 8350 purchase in Canada - Page 5

Epson Canada website has the 8350 listed at $1003 CAD.+taxes.
When you go to checkout, a price of $1399 will appear (which was yesterdays price) cancel this order and then go back to step one on ordering the 8350. It took me three times with the $1399 pre-purchase price until I received the $1003. Then i proceeded with a final purchase. This morning at 11:45 am pacific time. NO it is not a April fools joke. I am now one said owner of a 8350.

Just checked 5 mins ago, still 1003 bucks. Insane deal.

As of last night ( Monday the 4th ) around 11pm, the site still showed $1003.00 as the price. I checked a few minutes ago, and now there are only 'notify me' and 'where to buy' buttons in the 8350 product page.

I placed an order on the Epson Canada site on Sunday morning ( April 3rd ). When I browsed to the 8350 product page, the price was $1003.00. I completed the order process, and the price remained $1003.00 throughout plus HST. I created an Epson account at the same time, as I haven't purchased of their site before.

After the purchase, I checked the order status in My Account, and the order status showed 'Under Review'. As of tonight, the status is still 'Under Review' and I've received no e.mail confirmation about the order.

Has anyone who ordered at this price received a confirmation, or, has an order status other than 'under review?

Mine still says under review also...they have to honor the price im pretty sure.
My order was confirmed by an e-mail I received at 12:42pm. approx. one hour after I purchased.
I then received another e-mail at 2:38pm with a confirmation that my credit card had been charged and the projector was in transit. Epson was correct on both issues.
This whole procedure was on friday, April 1.
Call Epson at the phone number listed in your account.

Hi Tony,

Thanks, that's good news and seems to set a precedence. I'll call Epson tomorrow.

It seems that the Epson Canada site now has the 8350 as "Notify Me' indicating they have no stock. Bummer I saw this too late.
Same here. I tried to buy an 8350 this afternoon and clicked 'Notify Me'

I just now (10:30pm) received an email from Epson saying the projector is now in stock.

However there's only a 'Where to Buy' button I don't see any way to get one through the Epson store. The 'Buy Now' link is missing.

I'll call tomorrow...

I thought my my 1180 Canadian price was a good deal, 1003?!? Mine was also a mistake on Epson's web page but they honored it.
It's back up to $1329
Epson finally honoured the order I've placed on Saturday, April 2 (Epson PowerLite 8350, 1003 CAD).
maybe these mistakes on prices aren't actually "mistakes"

Epson will piss off a lot of dealers by undercutting them officially.
I phoned Epson this morning and spoke with what I assume is a first level CSR. She was very pleasant, and said that 'under review' could take up to 5 days. She saw the order and didn't mention anything about price, other that the she thought the 8350 was a great projector 'for the price'.

Just received an e.mail from epson support that the order is being fulfilled. No questions, no hassles.

One more example of Epson being one fantastic company to deal with. They make a mistake, and despite having verbiage on their site about not being responsible for pricing mistakes, they take the high road .. and don't even mention it. How many other companies would do that?

This purchase was to replace an ageing HC400 in our livingroom TV setup. The Barco CRT in our basement 'movie' theatre is getting long in the tooth, and I was thinking of the JVC HD250 as a potential replacement. With this experience, I'm now going to be looking a bit harder at the new Epson reflective LCDs, even if they cost a bit more.

Epson is one of the few projector vendors that strictly enforced Minimum Advertised Price on it's products. I'm pretty sure this is to protect their dealer channel from undercutting. I really don't think they'd suddenly screw their dealers by undercutting them on their own site. I believe it was simply a mistake. This is reinforced by the fact that the price is back to normal on their site now.

BTW, after I placed my order for the 8350, I noticed that the 8700UB was priced at $1675, with a spare lamp! Now that would have been a deal!

This is great to see. Customer put before profit with the potential of creating loyalty. Canada eh.

For the last few weeks I had been checking out projectors at online vendors for a purchase. On these vendors sites by adding the projector to the shopping cart a lower price was available. So, why not Epson Canada? I was hiding out in my home office from the April fools hijinks and i thought I would just try the shopping cart procedure. Having slight OCD is what made me try numerous times. Basically a fluke occurrence with a simple mistake on Epsons part.

I dont know who you spoke to but I called and they did not honor the price and cancelled my order. I now own a Optoma HD20.
Sorry to hear that David. Did you mention that other AVS'ers didn't have any problems?

Good luck with the HD20 and hope you enjoy it.

I think there are major changes on the Epson .ca site. Orignally you could navigate to the Canadian site by going to epson.ca, but now it re-directs to the international site. During the last few days I've seen the origianl Canadian site, and then a new version of the Canadian site. I'm sure this is where problems happened.

I feel bad for David. Maybe he got a CSR that didn't get the memo.

8700 for 1675, holy crap I would have grabbed that

..then again I do not see another epson in my future again, but what a price

Epson's 15% off is back up but both the 8350 and 8700 are not in stock

They also have this warning now

Overview

Notice to Customers:

"Epson distributes Home Cinema products only through authorized channels. We have seen sales activity through an on-line reseller called Eastporters.ca. Please note they are not an authorized reseller of Epson products."

FWIW...
Epson 8350
Futureshop Online sale
Canada Day...$999
Eastporters is not an authorized dealer for Epson be very carefull buying from them also they wont sell ya a projector without buying a screen from them.

They are in Hamilton in some hoakey wharehouse. Epson from there site warns not to buy from them for this reason warranty will be denied if you need it and the only way to get yer unit fixed after the fact is to take it to them the unauthorized dealer and pray there still in business.

Stay away from Eastporters no warranty if you buy from them

As much as I hate to say it, Epson Canada has stated that they will indeed repair US projectors under warranty in Canada.

go read this http://www.hdtv.ca/forum/viewtopic.p...it=burns#p4861, they a E-mail from Epson's Judy Burns stating this.

I know Panasonic, JVC and Mitsubishi don't work like this. You must buy Canadian from Canada and American from the US.. Also I'm not saying Eastporters ins't sketchy as hell but as far as the Epson thing goes, Epson Canada will warranty US goods.

The point is that they only honour this if bought from an authorized dealer. I got mine from the US because of this policy.

Seeing how Epson works I doubt they even care about that....
